...to not shave higher than my knees?

I recently told* some of friends, at a group we go to, that when I shave my legs, I only do my big toes my lower legs and occasionally my knees. Apparently this is highly unusual and very odd behaviour on my part! I have very fine and fair hair on my thighs (despite being very dark haired) and so have never felt the need to shave them.

Is this odd and unreasonable behaviour? I'm surely not alone in this?

*it came up randomly in conversation, I didn't just sit there and blurt it out!

Up to and including knees. I did thighs a few times as a teenager before clocking that it really wasn't necessary. I have a few random long ones that I see off with tweezers.

My big toes need doing or the hair snags on socks.

I doubt that anyone who sees me weekly at a toddler swimming lesson is scrutinising my stubble status.

morelikeguidelines · 10/06/2015 07:42

Only up to my knees. Top part is soft hair that doesn't really notice. If I shaved it it would start to be thick like the lower legs.

AgentProvocateur · 10/06/2015 08:10

bair that photo has really made me giggle. I'm in Pret, having a pre-work coffee, silently shaking with laughter. Thanks for the morning boost.

schokolade · 10/06/2015 08:18

Another one here only shaving half way. One of my friends found out when we were about 14, and huffily declared I couldn't claim I'd shaved at all. At most I'd "half-shaved" and should be clear about cheating, apparently. She was most put out Grin

sashh · 10/06/2015 08:24

I do the same.

I once had a 'full leg wax' because a college student needed to do one to complete her portfolio. She was fine below the knee but then her and the teacher had to have a good look to find some hair for her to wax.

Most salons do '1/2 leg wax' so it must be common.

TedAndLola · 10/06/2015 08:26

I've only ever shaved from my big toe up to my knees. I did once meet a woman who shaved her feet... not a single hairy toe but the whole top of her foot Confused

sausagechops101 · 10/06/2015 08:30

I too would be looking like Mr Tumnus without shaving above the knee. I have blonde hair and blue eyes but from the neck down I'm covered in black fur.

pressone · 10/06/2015 08:42

I only do up to the knees.

Every beauty salon I have ever gone to offers leg waxing whole leg or half a leg. If it was rare to only remove hair up to the knee it wouldn't be financially viable to offer it as an option

I only do up to my knees. It would be utterly pointless to go higher as you can't even see the hair on my thighs unless you look really really closely. And it is fine and blonde anyway (I am the very opposite of blonde so no idea how this happened, maybe I have swapped body hair with one of you hairier blondes).

ragged · 10/06/2015 09:15

Women should not shave their legs at all.

DayLillie · 10/06/2015 09:18

I have only ever shaved my shins and I did not do that until I was offered a half-leg wax when I was having my feet done, in my mid 20s After that, I realised the people I worked with had completely bald legs Hmm I was completely naïve and thought that you were supposed to have hairs on your legs.

I married a really hairy man. He is fluffy all over. Unfortunately my beautiful dds have inherited his legs. I feel responsible, and have apologised for my mistake. I have told them that if I had known this could happen, I would have found a less hairy man to marry.

Fortunately, they are very forgiving and said it is fine; they will just shave their legs.

Damnautocorrect · 10/06/2015 09:25

Well they've clearly never noticed so your fine!!

It's each to their own isn't it. I do all mine and have done for as long as I've shaved. I'm quite fair haired on my thighs so I don't worry from a 'look' but it's the feel I dont like

VacantExpression · 10/06/2015 09:26

whole leg weekly, below knees inbetween. Wax face weekly. Pits every other day. Luckily resisted the temptation to wax/shave arms as the hair has got fairer and thinner as I've aged.

I am a Yeti Sad I am with you dark hairy PP's!

Softfriend · 10/06/2015 09:27

Half leg here too. If I wore short shorts or skirts then I'd consider it but ive neither the physique nor the inclination!

Charley50 · 10/06/2015 09:28

I only do up to my knees and my knees. I know I have some hair on the back of my thighs but because I can't see it I don't care.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 10/06/2015 09:32

I have hairy arms but am not in the slightest bit bothered about them. I do like hair free legs when they are going to be on show though.

This is very rare so my legs are either hairy or shaved all the way up.

My SIL thinks it is "disgusting" to have hairy legs. No doubt my arm hair bothers her but why she gives a shiny shite about my covered up legs ive no idea.

WaferInMyCoffee · 10/06/2015 09:34

I rarely shave my legs at all. Who cares? Be as hairy or hair free as you want! It is literally nothing to do with anyone else.

littlebillie · 10/06/2015 09:35

Tell your friends your knee length bloomers hide the hair ??

Serendipitymuppet · 10/06/2015 09:36

Half way, knees if I'm going to be wearing something where they'll show.

OH when we first started going out thought that was odd, now he's grateful if I even do below the knees.

Arms - I didn't realise arm shaving was a thing till someone said (20 years ago) when I as at Uni that I could shave my arms. My arms are hairy, but I'm fair so you only see them when they glisten in the light!

ShaynePunim · 10/06/2015 09:41

YANBU.

I only do from the knee down as well (waxing, I never shave).

I'm currently having IPL where I previously used to have a Brazilian. I really wish I'd done this years ago, the results are amazing. I'm considering also having it done on my underarms.

Apparently it works best on pale skins with dark hairs (like me). So I'm recommending that to everyone in that situation!

ShaynePunim · 10/06/2015 09:43

Oh and yeah, I have hairy-ish arms but I would never consider shaving them! It would feel weird.

Stormtreader · 10/06/2015 09:47

Laser hair removal is awesome, im almost hair-free now on lower legs and armpits, its heavenly to be able to forget about shaving! :D

HayFeverHell · 10/06/2015 09:51

YANBU

I cannot be bothered to shave my thighs. The hair there is scant anyway. I'm not that hairy.

BlueThursday · 10/06/2015 10:00

Sadly I am of the beast variety and have to shave everywhere including arms.

I got IPL a few years ago which was great but the effects have worn off now. Once my CS scar has healed I'm going to treat myself to full on laser treatment
