To take medicine DH doesn't want me to?

Quickly a I have to go out in 5 mins.

Have hay fever, constant dripping nose, wanting to scratch out eyes, itchy throat. Mentioned to d.h that as no longer pg/be can get hay fever medicine again. He said he didn't want me to as it makes me sleepy (not sure it is true, although it does have an effect on sex). I have four tablets left (out of date, from last year). I called yesterday to ask if I can just pick up a prescription and there is one waiting for me.

DH believes it is all a fuss over nothing. Hay fever is an outlook on life, if I just exposed myself more to the pollen etc then my body would get used it it.

Also have to pay for medicines where I am.

Aibu to pick up the prescription and get myself some drugs?

Take the medicine!

Jackw · 02/06/2015 07:08

Yanbu. Your body, your symptoms, your choice.

SweetPeaPods · 02/06/2015 07:08

Would he take paracetamol for a headache?
Go get the antihistamines. Hay fever is horrible

Does he actually have a valid reason for not wanting you to take it, or is he being a self-serving prick? [grr] Get the prescription!

MangoBiscuit · 02/06/2015 07:09

Oops, that should be Angry not [grr] Grin

Shakirasma · 02/06/2015 07:09

YANBU you have a very unpleasant medical complaint but your DH is pressuring you not to treat it. Is he a dick in other ways or just over your health?

Number666livesaMrMIller · 02/06/2015 07:10

Take the pills! Can you buy it over the counter though to save some money. It's no business of your husbands what medication you take.

JassyRadlett · 02/06/2015 07:10

Your DH is a git. Does he have the same bonkers views about food allergies?

Hay fever is miserable. Take the drugs!

Do whatever it takes to make you feel better.
Is he normally so controlling?! Can't imagine my DH ever telling me not to do something that will make me feel better!

WorkingBling · 02/06/2015 07:13

Take the medicine. But I would speak to Dr about side effects and see if there is an alternative you can try.

Dh should get stuffed in meantime.

HolgerDanske · 02/06/2015 07:14

Wow.

No you're definitely not being unreasonable.

He, on the other hand, definitely is.

NobodyLivesHere · 02/06/2015 07:14

Yabu. How very dare you not be in discomfort and pain. You unreasonable human being, you.

Blarblarblar · 02/06/2015 07:16

YANBU he is BVU. How dare he tell you what you need hay fever is horrid. There is some evidence that cutting out dairy makes a difference my pal cuts it out all summer and it seems to help. She's bloody miserable without her cheese though. That's not his choice though.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/06/2015 07:16

Hayfever is not sexy. He sounds like an arse. YANBU.

PuntasticUsername · 02/06/2015 07:18

Hayfever is an outlook on life? And you could cure it simply, any time you wanted, by going out more? So you're basically being ill because you want to be?

Fuck. That.

Has he informed the medical profession of his patented miracle cure for hayfever? The NHS could save a bloody fortune on drugs.

AllergictoSummer · 02/06/2015 07:19

No he wouldn't take paracetamol for a headache. And he is surprised that I do sometimes. I can't buy it over the counter as it it prescription only (Otc ones don't agree with me). Don't want to go to Dr as I would have to pay consultation fee as well.

Yes, kept feeding Dd hazelnuts when she got red/blistered mouth and face. Now she doesn't react to them.

Get the non-drowsy ones

BitOutOfPractice · 02/06/2015 07:21

He doesn't want you to take medication that will make you feel better because it makes you too sleepy for sex?

Do you realise how bad that sounds?

Jengnr · 02/06/2015 07:21

He did WHAAAAAAT? He is HORRIBLE.

Take the bloody medicine and reconsider being in a relationship with this utter fuckwit.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 02/06/2015 07:21

He is a complete asshole and could have killed your daughter. Seriously, why are you with this control freak.

cashewnutty · 02/06/2015 07:22

There are lots of types of antihistamines. Ask for ones that won't make you drowsy.
