to feel that when DH buys me flowers ...

...that he should arrange them in a vase for me as well?

DH just brought home flowers for me tonight in advance of Mum's Day. Don't get me wrong, I love getting flowers but somehow it feels almost like DH is handing me a chore instead of a present. I hate flower arranging. He sat down, smiling, all proud of himself for remembering, while I had to find a vase, fill it with water, find the scissors to add the flower food, trim the stems, stuff them in the vase, find somewhere to put it, and clear up all the leaves/stems/plastic detritus. Does anyone else feel this way?

Some people are just so fucking ungrateful. It never fails to amaze me just how brattish and princessy some posters on MN are. There are posters on here today whose mums are dying, who have lost their mums since last Mothers Day. There are posters who have lost their children since last Mothers Day. There are postes in abusive relationships and are getting fuck all for Mothers Day and here we have a woman bleating about putting flowers in a vase!

For fucks sake, grow up, put your own flowers in a fucking vase and show a bit of gratitude and appreciation!

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 10:16

He doesn't if it bothers you and you've stated so.
If you don't mind, you don't mind Smile

I do, I've said so and I know I've been reduced to tears as a new mother with a high-needs baby when yet another visitor rocked up with fecking flowers when I could not go to the toilet without having DS scream to the point of sickness or actually holding him while I did a wee.

Yes, I do get what the OP means.

TheSingingMonkey · 15/03/2015 10:19

I hope he cuts up your food and hands it to you as well. He sounds awful. LTB.

wearing · 15/03/2015 10:22

Pacific I always used to send flowers for a new baby until I had my own.

Not any more - I couldn't be feckin arsed with all the vase kerfuffle when mine were newborns.

I now send a tray of gourmet muffins to welcome any new arrivals. That always goes down really well - 12 massive, calorific muffins is what you need with a newborn, not feckin flowers!

pictish · 15/03/2015 10:24

Squoosh I just wanted to tell you that I read out the OP to my family, followed by your reply on the first page. What a laugh! Grin

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 10:24

wearing, oh so did I, bring flowers I mean.
But I learnt - I might steal your muffin idea; even better than boring chocolates and some baby grows or pretty muslins.

TiggyOfQuirm · 15/03/2015 10:29

Always have a selection of vases on standby.

My dh will happily arrange flowers in a vase. He has an innate skill which means he can render the most sophisticated of blooms into something out of an old peoples' home in the 70s.

So I do it.

KatieScarlettreregged · 15/03/2015 10:31

At least yours told you he has bought flowers. DH bought some last night, put them in vase, etc.
I opened the front room curtains this morning and found them there, all arranged.
Nonchalant Bastard.

Idontseeanydragons · 15/03/2015 10:35

People have more than one vase?
I got a selection of flower and veg seeds - not only will I have to arrange any I cut but I have to grow the buggers as well!! GrinWink
I got an apple tree a couple of years ago as a belated birthday present, sprained my wrist digging the damn hole for it. I still wouldn't moan at DH about it though.
YABU.

WayfaringStranger · 15/03/2015 10:43

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 15/03/2015 10:48

This is one of the joke threads, yes? Or no? I literally can't tell anymore.

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 10:57

Oooh, I'd love an apple tree!
Our Tesco was doing them knocked down to £4

Eyespy24 · 15/03/2015 10:59

I'm with you op. I can't be bothered with flowers & the gardening tasks they create!

InvisibleAnxiety · 15/03/2015 11:36

I feel the same as OP but that's because I don't like flowers.

TheSingingMonkey · 15/03/2015 11:40

I bet he did this once OP, and as far as you were concerned he did it wrong. You sound like hard work,

He did something nice, appreciate it.

BreakfastAtStephanies · 15/03/2015 11:45

Completely Brilliant Funny Thread Smile

PintofCiderPlease · 15/03/2015 11:50

YABU - but I feel the same way, even though I KNOW I'm being unreasonable so I never actually say anything quite that blunt. Can't help feeling like it though! Blush

Although I have been known to say 'DH, could your reach that vase for me. Thanks. Oh and can you get the scissors out for me? Right could you just hold it steady while I arrange it...'

Share the work load.... Wink

KatoPotato · 15/03/2015 11:58

Amusing myself with the mental image of DH snipping flower ends and arranging a bouquet for me!!

Fugghetaboutit · 15/03/2015 11:58

squoosh Grin actual LOL

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2015 11:59

PintofCider, I might just have to steal that technique - passive-aggressiveness at its best Grin
