to feel that when DH buys me flowers ...

...that he should arrange them in a vase for me as well?

DH just brought home flowers for me tonight in advance of Mum's Day. Don't get me wrong, I love getting flowers but somehow it feels almost like DH is handing me a chore instead of a present. I hate flower arranging. He sat down, smiling, all proud of himself for remembering, while I had to find a vase, fill it with water, find the scissors to add the flower food, trim the stems, stuff them in the vase, find somewhere to put it, and clear up all the leaves/stems/plastic detritus. Does anyone else feel this way?

Ah, I see I'm not the only one with the chocolate problem. Easter is a nightmare I tell you Grin

UnbelievableBollocks · 15/03/2015 00:39

Hahahhahaaaa.

I've never had flowers put into a vase for me. When I buy my mother some flowers, she doesn't expect me to put them into a vase for her either.

Just tell him to buy you chocs next time, and remind him to remove the cellophane and open the box for you as well. Grin

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 00:39

Am I childish? Half the pleasure for me of a bunch of flowers is appreciating the wrapping, finding a nice vase and arranging the flowers Blush

It's like unwrapping a gift-wrapped jumper, and trying it on, and admiring oneself in it, it's a whole experience, rather than someone just showing you that they've bought you a new jumper and putting it away for you. If that makes sense.

TendonQueen · 15/03/2015 00:40

Easily sorted. Next time, thank him, and then say 'Ooh, I've just got to.. (insert random task) so can you put these in a vase for me with the plant food in?' Hand them back to him, big smile, walk away.

pollykinesis · 15/03/2015 00:40

YANBU, I hate getting flowers too. I have beautiful fake flowers dotted all over the place so have to find somewhere for them when the vases are needed for real flowers. Chocolates are always well received Grin

Flipchart · 15/03/2015 00:41

No I don't feel that way and it never occured to me to put flowers in a vase when I have got them for other people either!

Blimey, DH buys me some several times a year. He doesn't know what vase I want them in or what room.

Just say thank you and get on with a minor job that lasts less than minutes and enjoy them.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/03/2015 00:44

You lot are very mean. OP wanted to boast and you've all stifled it with your sensible comments - and rained on her boasting parade. Grin

ladymariner · 15/03/2015 00:46

This has got to be a wind-up surely.....nobody can really be such an arse and keep a straight face???

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 15/03/2015 00:48

I feel a bit like that with flowers - extra, unwanted faff. But that is because I'm a terrible old curmudgeon.

My dh will find a vase, get the water, blah blah blah. I have no idea why because I really am a terrible old curmudgeon. Maybe because the man is a fucking saint?

Summerisle1 · 15/03/2015 00:48

LTB.

And in the meantime, here's a tiny little violin.

AgentZigzag · 15/03/2015 00:50

I once saved a chocolate orange easter egg in it's box for at least a week ages, I'd look at it sat on the telly stand feeling great that I was spinning out the luxury of having some decent choc to enjoy (was skint).

When I finally opened it the fucker was totally crawling with ants!

I was devastated Sad and contemplated eating it and the ants anyway

HellKitty · 15/03/2015 00:52

Ants?!
Was it like the glitterbomb thread and was secretly filled with ants by someone who hated you? Grin

uglyswan · 15/03/2015 00:55

I bet you could eat the ants. I mean, they're all full of chocolate, anything filled with chocolate's got to be edible, right?

ROAR!

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 15/03/2015 00:57

Sometimes DH buys me clothes but I'd never expect him to dress me?!?

Now I'm questioning if I'm setting the bar too low for him?

AgentZigzag · 15/03/2015 01:00

I should have eaten them all just to spite the thieving little fuckers.

Don't, you'll give me retrospective paranoia HellKitty Grin

TheFlyingFauxPas · 15/03/2015 01:05

DH is handing me a chore

I agree with you ceeb. I do love getting flowers but I remember when ds was a newborn - with all the (admittedly lovely) rigmarole involved with that arranging a bunch of flowers just felt an effort too far! My mother would never let me arrange hers I'm rubbish at it!

Here OP. Have these Flowers

differentnameforthis · 15/03/2015 01:09

Just tell him to buy you chocs next time, and remind him to remove the cellophane and open the box for you as well.

And if you are lucky, he will eat them for you too, to save you all that mastication, which will just exhaust your jaw rendering you unable to bitch at talk to him.

TobyLerone · 15/03/2015 01:13

Are your diamond shoes too tight, OP?

drbonnieblossman · 15/03/2015 02:02

OP, you are one lazy fecker.

sleepylittlebunnies · 15/03/2015 02:04

I can remember feeling like this. DH bought me a lovely bunch of flowers, I had so much on my plate at the time that they sat in the sink for 3 days! It was just one chore too much, I hadn't been myself for ages and was suffering with undiagnosed depression. Of course if you aren't fussed about flowers then they aren't a thoughtful gift.

Tobyjugg · 15/03/2015 02:04

YABU - suppose it was a neighbour who bought them for you. Would you expect them to go rummaging through your kitchen to find a vase and then arrange them in a way you liked?

Vijac · 15/03/2015 02:11

Clearly in the minority but I totally agree. I hate putting flowers in vases, always get pricked or they won't cut etc etc. Also hate getting them out and squashing them down to go in the bin. It should be the givers job, I agree!

Ludoole · 15/03/2015 02:15

If i arrange flowers in a vase they always look rubbish, thankfully mine are bought in an aqua bag so there's no messing about. I just put them straight on the table. Grin

emotionsecho · 15/03/2015 02:33

Dh is flower arranger here, he's good at it, I'm not.
