To ask you about gay saunas

We've booked a hotel in Brighton to stay with my DP and our DC which has a gay sauna, and I'm wondering if the sauna is likely to be open late and be noisy. I'm a bit naive about saunas and don't know how they usually work - do they often play loud music like a club or are they fairly chilled? Appreciate it probably varies from place to place...

That was an interesting choice of hotel!! I don't know much about them apart from there is one in the city I live in (aberdeen) which is open during the day and 1 weekend a month it turns into a swingers club at night. Grin

FuckyNell · 24/02/2015 22:47

Hmm. Well. Is it a gay hotel?

Really? Really?!

KingJoffreyObviouslyWatchesHol · 24/02/2015 22:50

I imagine it's the same as a regular sauna.

Don't usually associate saunas with loud music...

I would read that as a gay friendly hotel open to swingers i.e. L lots of men naked & having sex. But maybe thats leaping to conclusions!

KarmaViolet · 24/02/2015 22:54

Why have you booked a family trip to a gay sauna venue? Confused

My friends used to go to one in London. It was certainly open very late, no idea about music. I've just looked up Chariots and they say nothing about music but they do have a film / TV room, no doubt to play inspirational documentaries Wink Maybe phone the hotel and ask?

Flatwarmcoke · 24/02/2015 22:55

Some of my best friends are gay men: disclaimer.

Anyway I watched a documentary about a gay sauna in Manchester I think and it showed the owner the following morning cheerily brushing up poo covered condoms.

So, interesting choice for a family stay...

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/02/2015 22:56

I'm not sure I would choose that particular hotel for a family stay TBH.

I would assume the same as primaryteach87 TBH. Although I admit I may be shockingly naïve about some things!

Chillyegg · 24/02/2015 22:56

The sauna some of my gay friends go to plays corrie in one of the rooms. They said they were er quite dark light wise and different rooms have different vibes.

PiranhaBrothers · 24/02/2015 22:57

Most excellent! Grin

Surely you realised it was a gay friendly hotel if it had a gay sauna?

PiranhaBrothers · 24/02/2015 23:00

Armani I was thinking more of the Queens Hotel and Spa

Iflyaway · 24/02/2015 23:00

I go to an Indian (restaurant) which has a gay sauna upstairs.

Don't hear anything apart from the music in the restaurant....

Maybe you need to get out more often....

travertine · 24/02/2015 23:03

may be wise to phone them to make sure their facilties meet your needs at the appropriate times. Or check trip advisor and such sites.

Galvanized · 24/02/2015 23:03

Karma - I know that one! the signage on the high street says something like "entrance at the rear", always cheers me up.

LynetteScavo · 24/02/2015 23:04

On that website it says;

Scene : Slightly Older / small

What the hell does this mean?

Older men with small willies? Confused

MadameJulienBaptiste · 24/02/2015 23:05

Well I never heard of a gay sauna.

Sheltered, much???

LynetteScavo · 24/02/2015 23:05

It has a "dark room with video".

I will probably never find out what goes on in there. Confused

LynetteScavo · 24/02/2015 23:06

The one and only time I went to Derby I parked outside a gay sauna. DH was thinking of working nearby, and I suggested he could use it, before I went home and Googled. Grin

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/02/2015 23:07

Armani I was thinking more of the Queens Hotel and Spa

That doesn't have a gay sauna

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2015 23:09

Excellent question OP

Because Mumsnet would know more than the hotel...

BossWitch · 24/02/2015 23:13

My understanding (informed by gay friends) was that a sauna is a hook up / shag spot. He knew quite a few people who, if they were visiting a different city, would save on a hotel bill for the night by shagging the night away at the sauna instead.

Not the best place for a family getaway.
