To ask you about gay saunas

workadurka · 24/02/2015 22:39

We've booked a hotel in Brighton to stay with my DP and our DC which has a gay sauna, and I'm wondering if the sauna is likely to be open late and be noisy. I'm a bit naive about saunas and don't know how they usually work - do they often play loud music like a club or are they fairly chilled? Appreciate it probably varies from place to place...

Oh my god I didn't say a gay friendly hotel was a brothel jeez

SilentCharisma · 25/02/2015 09:29

I'm a gay man - I would tend to avoid a hotel which offers these facilities.

Gay saunas are for cruising for sex - the vibe of the hotel will most likely be sleazy. Not conducive to a family getaway.

Can you cancel and book somewhere else?

deadenddan · 25/02/2015 09:30

Does your DH have a PA?

Do they book his travel?

Do they in fact know quite well the type of accommodation he likes?

Just saying Wink

Mrsjayy · 25/02/2015 09:31

I wouldn't take my children to a hotel where there is a room in a hotel where adults may or may not go for sex it sounds like the hotel is for over 18s anyway so unless the op is sneaki g her kids under her coat they won't get in.

SilentCharisma · 25/02/2015 09:31

And no, a gay sauna is not a gay brothel!

Totally different.

OTheHugeManatee · 25/02/2015 09:33

I think OP you should check whether the hotel policy will permit your DC to stay. But if they do, I really don't see what the fuss is.

A gay sauna is, as lots of people have said, somewhere gay men go to hook up. But the key for you is that they're going to be doing this in the sauna, not all over the lobby or in the corridors.

In fact if you didn't know the hotel had the sauna I think the most evidence you'd have of it would be a preponderance of well-groomed men sat in twos in the breakfast room the next day.

If you're concerned about this on the basis that GAY MEN WILL BE HAVING BUMSEX NEAR YOUR CHILDREN then you should get over yourself. The same is likely to be happening in pretty much any hotel you care to stay in Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 25/02/2015 09:33

And WTF at the person who says a gay sauna is the same as a brothel Shock

BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2015 09:34

Santa did you show them your [bush]?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/02/2015 09:35

OP - how have your DC come to be booked in to a hotel with an over 18 age limit anyway? Confused

mynameissecret · 25/02/2015 09:37

I'm sure sauna will be in a different part of the building

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/02/2015 09:37

No Bit. Maybe it would have helped though Wink.

FarelyKnuts · 25/02/2015 09:38

It's a hotel. People are hardly going to be having sex in the lobby are they?
Is it because it is gay that everyone is so up in arms? Presumably the OP would not be bringing her DC into the sauna which would have a very strict and clear over 18s policy anyway so basically the "worst" that can happen is they are likely to be seeing a higher proportion than normal of gay men over the breakfast table?
FFS the hysteria is ridiculous.

Mrsjayy · 25/02/2015 09:46

I was being sarcastic callng it a brotel but basically I wouldn't take children to a hotel where sex as a goup activity a pp said it wasa bit sleazy just that I wouldn't book into a hotel that had a facility for sex

Mrsjayy · 25/02/2015 09:47

Absolutely not because it is a gay hotel

ChoochiWoo · 25/02/2015 09:53

Gay sauna haha!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/02/2015 09:54

SilentCharisma have you been to one? Is it fun? Maybe it's the painkillers but I'm looking at the website with the sling room etc and thinking fuck yeah, I want to be a gay man for a day! Grin

ImGoingForATwix · 25/02/2015 09:59

Vision of hotel owner merrily sweeping up poo covered condoms.
??

Yep op, noise will be the least of your issues on this family break!

Wanksock where's the one in Aberdeen?

FarelyKnuts · 25/02/2015 10:05

Oh no absolutely not. Avoid all hotels where sex might be happening at all costs! Can't be having consenting adults doing that sort of thing behind closed doors where children will have no clue and hurting nobody!
Let's ignore the fact that the majority of hotels will have at least one act of prostitution happening in it on any particular evening and that plenty of straight people (even more than two sometimes SIOB!) are merrily shagging each others brains out as well. Down with the gay sex party. They might be having more fun than you!

ImperialBlether · 25/02/2015 10:08

I hadn't realised it was so blatant - one of the links above states: "we provide condoms and lube FREE for all of our customers."

workadurka · 25/02/2015 10:09

Thank you Littlecaf you have reassured me. Bit of an eye opener this thread, I never knew about the slings!

OP posts:
workadurka · 25/02/2015 10:13

Exactly Farely - I figure people have had sex gay or otherwise in pretty much every hotel in the world. It is the noise I was worried about as I've stayed in hotels with clubs downstairs before and they were awful.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 25/02/2015 10:16

Free lube and condomssounds ideal for a seaside break

FarelyKnuts · 25/02/2015 10:18

Taking off my sarcastic hat for a minute work. Honestly I'd just ring them and ask about noise, explain you're bringing kids and ask for a quieter part of the hotel

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 25/02/2015 10:20

lol

years ago I used to book accom for my superiors, until some ended up above a pub in Derby that had a lock in till 4 and the barrels changed at 5

after that it was strictly traveldodgies

even I would have swerved this one Grin

Mrsjayy · 25/02/2015 10:21

And it is an adult hotel where adults have booked in surely they don't want children kicking about they booked it specifically because it was over 18s
