Ed Miliband promises not to back down on tax avoidance, and promises to put UK tax havens on blacklist unless they end their system of secrecy

www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/feb/06/ed-miliband-tax-avoidance-business-labour

This will make a huge difference to our economy, and unlike Cameron who has completely ignored the issue, and instead of making these multi billionares pay their fare share of taxes, he wants to bring cuts to benefits, when normal people are really struggling as it is.

We really need to get rid of the Tory government, whose policies have mainly been just to make the rich richer. Miliband might not have the charisma and charm that people want to see in a leader, but at least he'll get rid of Cameron and his super rich cronies.

Let me know when hell freezes over!

ihavenonameonhere · 07/02/2015 15:42

Yawn

mywholelifeisaheadache · 07/02/2015 15:43

Yawn. This is him going for the popularity vote. You know he won't actually do anything don't you and labour are just a bunch of twats

So Milliband and HIS super rich cronies are better?

I believe very few election promises. They are all as bad as each other.

PureMorning · 07/02/2015 15:44

Hi justine miliband

waves

firesidechat · 07/02/2015 15:44

Labour had 13 years to deal with this and did a big fat nothing.

Yawn indeed.

Tobyjugg · 07/02/2015 15:45

Hell will freeze over before I vote for that prat Milliband. As for this latest idea of a black list how, exactly, does he intend to find the cash to rebulid the economies of the Isle of Man. Channel Islands, Bermuda and Cayman Island, which he has just destroyed.

I always think that Cameron is the most godawful politician I've ever seen and then Miliband opens his mouth.

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 07/02/2015 15:46

Urgh Labour.

firesidechat · 07/02/2015 15:46

There is no way that I could tolerate Ed as prime minister. It will be a disaster.

MajesticWhine · 07/02/2015 15:46

Just some electioneering bullshit to try to attract voters. And you fell for it. "Blacklisting" is decided by international agreement, the UK can't demand it.

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 07/02/2015 15:46

Hmm that seems unanimous then! Grin

strawberrysalsa · 07/02/2015 15:47

maybe if the last Labour Government hadn't spent all the money and totally f**ked up the economy we wouldn't be in the same state.

Personally wouldn't trust the Labour lot to run a piss up in a brewery.

woowoo22 · 07/02/2015 15:47

YABU

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/02/2015 15:48

Labour can say anything they like. No one will believe them anymore.

Although TBF it does look like they may have some power after May. Will be interesting to see if they go into coalition with the Tories or the SNP Grin

Cherriesandapples · 07/02/2015 15:50

Labour do more harm to the poor than the conservatives - they just pretend that they don't!

grovel · 07/02/2015 15:51

I will not be voting Labour this time.

Tobyjugg · 07/02/2015 15:52

Oh they'll go in with the Tories no problem. There have been more Labour/Tory coalitions in this country than coalitions of any other parties.

ArabellaStrange · 07/02/2015 15:53

I wouldn't trust any of the mainstream parties to do anything beyond what mainstream parties always do which is to support the status quo i.e. the rich get richer and bugger the rest of us.

Elllimam · 07/02/2015 15:54

I will not be voting labour. Yuck.

JassyRadlett · 07/02/2015 15:54

As for this latest idea of a black list how, exactly, does he intend to find the cash to rebulid the economies of the Isle of Man. Channel Islands, Bermuda and Cayman Island, which he has just destroyed.

Best argument ever. Yep, our top concern should be the countries that make a living out of ripping off people in the UK, meaning small businesses and ordinary people pay more than they need to.

I also worry about drug dealers, with the efforts to reduce drug use. And tobacco manufacturers.

I think the election is a hell of a lot more complicated than this issue, but honestly, this statement made me laugh. Yes, British voters should be happy to support colossal tax avoidance on entirely this basis.

keepitsimple0 · 07/02/2015 15:58

he intend to find the cash to rebulid the economies of the Isle of Man. Channel Islands, Bermuda and Cayman Island, which he has just destroyed.

why is that our problem? so, an economy built on shady banking for drug dealers and tax avoiders is a good one?

I don't believe he will do it, but at least he's saying it.

HyperThread · 07/02/2015 15:58

Ok so who will you all vote for if not labour? Surely its thre better of the two evils?

Or do you plan not to vote at all?

OP posts:
JillyR2015 · 07/02/2015 15:59

5 years ago Laboiur were an absolute certainly to win in 2015. Now they are very unlikely to win thankfully. They have made an utter mess of everything.
Also tax avoidance is a social good. It is lawful. A big state is a very bad thing.

Tax is far too high. he needs to win on a ticket of a low simple tax system for all.

TheFecklessFairy · 07/02/2015 16:02

I would vote labour when hell freezes over because I will never never take the chance that Gordon Brown could come back. His actions still haunt our country.........and coffers.
