Ed Miliband promises not to back down on tax avoidance, and promises to put UK tax havens on blacklist unless they end their system of secrecy

www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/feb/06/ed-miliband-tax-avoidance-business-labour

This will make a huge difference to our economy, and unlike Cameron who has completely ignored the issue, and instead of making these multi billionares pay their fare share of taxes, he wants to bring cuts to benefits, when normal people are really struggling as it is.

We really need to get rid of the Tory government, whose policies have mainly been just to make the rich richer. Miliband might not have the charisma and charm that people want to see in a leader, but at least he'll get rid of Cameron and his super rich cronies.

Also tax avoidance is a social good. It is lawful. A big state is a very bad thing.

Only one of those three things is a fact. At least one is a rather extraordinary statement to make unsupported.

mywholelifeisaheadache · 07/02/2015 16:06

I will vote for the party who says they will raise tax and be honest about it (failing that tory voter local and national, labour and lib dems have ruined my town) we need higher rate taxes to pay for better public services. But the public all want something for nothing so it won't happen

JassyRadlett · 07/02/2015 16:06

I would vote labour when hell freezes over because I will never never take the chance that Gordon Brown could come back. His actions still haunt our country.........and coffers.

Are you going to wait until he dies before considering voting Labour then? Given he's standing down and has said he's not interested in the Lords or any other London job.

silveroldie2 · 07/02/2015 16:08

There's not a chance in hell, frozen over or otherwise, that I will ever vote Labour.

No, I do not find this a clincher policy.

Roseformeplease · 07/02/2015 16:10

Vote for the Ed Milliband who starts to wince and look uncomfortable if he is more than 2 miles from Hampstead Heath? You must be bloody joking. He nearly lost Scotland, and still might. He is in the pocket of the unions and does not care about anything other than power. He is offerings itching positive, just more banging on and on about "The Tories". He has not got a clue.

bettyboop1970 · 07/02/2015 16:11

My local labour candidate is fantastic, she will definitely be getting my vote. I can't wait to get rid of the condems.

edamsavestheday · 07/02/2015 16:12

Love the Tories who think Gordon Brown was so powerful he ran the entire world economy and was responsible for the US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain etc. etc. All of them with right-wing governments - such as that noted socialist, Bush.

And who completely ignore the fact that Osborne has borrrowed MORE than every Labour government ever all put together!

MajesticWhine · 07/02/2015 16:12

Hyper, I will definitely vote, I have not ruled out voting Labour. But empty promises about tackling tax avoidance are not going to be the thing that sways me. Have governments throughout history not ever had the idea of tackling tax avoidance? If it was that easy surely previous governments (including Labour for 13 years) could have done so.

SnowWhiteAteTheApple · 07/02/2015 16:17

That's not a chance it will happen, it's just a ploy for votes but people will remember the mess of the country when they were last in power.

There's no way I would vote Labour. They encouraged the whole benefit culture by bringing in tax credits and now we are all paying the price.

firesidechat · 07/02/2015 16:17

Or do you plan not to vote at all?

Er, because some most posters have said they won't vote labour you assume they aren't voting? That's some sophisticated political knowledge you have there. Hmm

IsabellaofFrance · 07/02/2015 16:19

Miliband is all front an no trousers. He has been keeping the seat warm for his brother long enough, time to vacate.

He is doing Labour more harm than good.

5446 · 07/02/2015 16:22

No thanks.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 16:22

I'm moving if EM gets in.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 16:25

Oh and yes. To point out the bloody obvious, no, I don't make a decision based on any single comment quoted in a newspaper.

MrsHathaway · 07/02/2015 16:27

He has promised nothing concrete, and in the last few months has approved the ratification of measures so right-wing he might as well be Tory himself.

So no, thanks.

lightgreenglass · 07/02/2015 16:28

Those who put I would never vote Miliband - you're not anyway as you'd be voting labour. As for those who say I'd never vote labour then don't expand - you contribute nothing to the thread so why post?

I think this is a good thing - instead of taking away from the poorest in society and making sure companies pay what they should pay. It's called corporation tax - it's not optional!

FarFromAnyRoad · 07/02/2015 16:28

Arf @ this. Ed's 'blacklist' has about it a ring of John Major's 'Bastards Book'........You gotta hand it to him - every time he or Balls speaks it's to illustrate further why they're a bunch of no marks who don't even deserve to be in charge of a primary school tuck shop.

lightgreenglass · 07/02/2015 16:30

So where are you moving? It's nice you have that choice.

piggychops · 07/02/2015 16:31

People seem to have forgotten that Labour raided the our pension pots when they were last in government so we all have far less to retire on in the future.
Also I don't think that dealing with tax on top earners is going to raise anything like enough. There was a pie chart floating around the internet showing how much could be raised and it wasn't very much.
Whilst I don't like some of the Tory policies, Labour are beginning to look more and more like headless chickens.

Slongette · 07/02/2015 16:33

There is absolutely nothing in this world that could compel me to vote for Labour - Miliband is appalling and has no redeeming features.

How could anyone take him or Balls seriously. They would make us look like a political laughing stock worldwide.

meditrina · 07/02/2015 16:35

If he is really saying it as portrayed by OP, then he is relying on public ignorance of the changes in international disclosures.

Along with 'weaponising' the NHS, this shows a campaign being run on stereotype, not substance.

And it's not good enough.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 07/02/2015 16:36

Jeez, who's on MN today? YANBU OP, it's a great policy and I will be voting Labour.
