Ed Miliband promises not to back down on tax avoidance, and promises to put UK tax havens on blacklist unless they end their system of secrecy

www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/feb/06/ed-miliband-tax-avoidance-business-labour

This will make a huge difference to our economy, and unlike Cameron who has completely ignored the issue, and instead of making these multi billionares pay their fare share of taxes, he wants to bring cuts to benefits, when normal people are really struggling as it is.

We really need to get rid of the Tory government, whose policies have mainly been just to make the rich richer. Miliband might not have the charisma and charm that people want to see in a leader, but at least he'll get rid of Cameron and his super rich cronies.

Not a hope in hell

Mrsbird311 · 07/02/2015 16:39

When Mr Blair was flavour of the month and everyone was voting for him all I could think is can't people see that this man is powerhungry and evil and I was right, now I look at milliband and can only see someone who was happy to tear his family apart and stab his poor brother in the back and think if he can do that to his own family how the hell is he going to look out for our best interests , yes Cameron is a bit of a posh boy but he is highly educated and has gone through some of the problems that families go through ( albeit without the money worries) but he does seem like a good person and that's who I will be voting for

DirtyBlonde · 07/02/2015 16:43

"Jeez, who's on MN today? YANBU OP, it's a great existing coalition policy and I will be voting Labour."

Fixed that for you.

No need to vote Labour to regulate tax havens. But perhaps they hope people won't notice that?

DidoTheDodo · 07/02/2015 16:56

In my opinion he has the most dreadful speaking voice. Most off putting!

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 07/02/2015 17:07

{Cameron} does seem like a good person and that's who I will be voting for
Mrsbird311

Unless you live in his his constituency [and quite possibly you do] you will NOT be voting for David Cameron. Or Mr Ed Millibean

Also if DC could not win an election in 2010 unassisted, he doesn't stand a cat in hell's chance in 2015.

I'm not voting Labour again, haven't done since 2001 and I won't for a long time, they've got a lot of atoning to, and don't seem to realise it.

Pub Landlord for Prime Minister!

yanbu, threads like this are so depressing though.

I loathe the Tories, for things like the bedroom tax alone which I have seen plunge desperately poor families often with complex issues and disabilities further into poverty. It is completely unbelievable that they have got away with it Sad

Labour might not be perfect but I don't believe they would have done that, at least I hope not.

I am praying the Tories don't get in on the next election.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 07/02/2015 17:14

I can think of few things more embarrassing to the UK than Ed's gurning face popping up at G8.

firesidechat · 07/02/2015 17:21

So right YoungGirl. We will be a laughing stock.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 17:25

lightgreenglass Sat 07-Feb-15 16:28:12Those who put I would never vote Miliband - you're not anyway as you'd be voting labour. As for those who say I'd never vote labour then don't expand - you contribute nothing to the thread so why post? I think this is a good thing - instead of taking away from the poorest in society and making sure companies pay what they should pay. It's called corporation tax - it's not optional!

Thanks for the patronising comment. So very helpful. Hmm. Given we're all adults, I think we know we'd be voting for Labour, not EM. However, given he's the leader of the Labour Party and not looking like retiring anytime soon, it's still his god awful voice & face we'd be stuck listening to/watching and have representing our country. No thank you very bloody much.

You don't get to say who posts what or where. No one cares whether you think they're contributing to a thread or not.

As for where I'd move to, out of the country, obviously. Where is none of your business. Yes, I am lucky to have the choice. It was slightly tongue in cheek, but it's a genuine option, should I want to do it.

JillyR2015 · 07/02/2015 17:25

Labour are not going to get in thankfully. In part we will have the Scots and the North to thank for that I suspect. All will be well if we can avoid a Labour victory and many mumsnetters are working very hard to ensure Labour do not get in.

Ivegotthree · 07/02/2015 17:27

Hilarious thread.

What's the point of it? (Not to mention Miliband)

cardibach · 07/02/2015 17:32

So many people who a) believe looks/voice/image are important, b) can't see that the media are manipulating their view of EM and c) think Labour controlled the world financial crash.

Labour are no longer a socialist party, so I doubt I'll vote for them, but can we try to judge on what is actually true rather than media spin? EM is a very intelligent man and a very able debater (ever wonder why Cameron isn't keen on the leader debates?) and he didn't 'tear his family apart' or 'stab his poor brother in the back'! They both stood for election to leader and he won.
As for tax avoidance, it's legal. It's wrong, but it's legal. Parties need to change the laws, not spout rhetoric about stopping companies doing something they are entitled to do..

Stopmithering · 07/02/2015 17:33

"many mumsnetters are working very hard to ensure Labour do not get in."
Eh?
What does that mean?

DustyBedhead · 07/02/2015 17:38

I'll vote Labour when Satan is ice skating to work.

Britanniagate · 07/02/2015 17:41

"many mumsnetters are working very hard to ensure Labour do not get in."

This would be excellent if they weren't working equally hard to ensure that the bleeding heart Liberals do get in.

OP, YABU and a bit dim.

PinkSquash · 07/02/2015 17:49

So how did Labour make the poor richer when they were in power? Oh that's right, they didn't.

Having Milliband as PM sounds terrifying, he's more of a buffoon than Boris Johnson.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 07/02/2015 17:53

Many mumsnetters are working very hard to ensure Labour do not get in JillyR2015

I don't see how that might possibly work.

Delusions of grandeur, much?

Britanniagate · 07/02/2015 17:57

Grin @ TheCat

AntiHop · 07/02/2015 18:03

I will be voting labour. I can't bear the thought of another 5 years of the tories with their over the top austerity

FannyFifer · 07/02/2015 18:07

I will never vote for the Tories or the Red Tories, after their disgusting behaviour & lies during the Referendum which still continues.

Can you all not vote Green in England, Tory & Labour are one & the same.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 18:09

So many people who a) believe looks/voice/image are important

They are. Being able to inspire confidence in your own country & being able to hold your own amongst the world leaders is important. EM isn't able to do either.

b) can't see that the media are manipulating their view of EM

No more, no less than any other politician. Stop being so patronising and making out only you, and a select few, know this.

and c) think Labour controlled the world financial crash

Yes, a few less bright people seem to think labour, specifically Gordon Brown is single handedly responsible for the global economic crisis. Hey ho. They're beyond help. Don't stress about it.

but can we try to judge on what is actually true rather than media spin?

Many of us do. Shock horror. We disagree with you.

EM is a very intelligent man. It's a shame he hides it so well.

and a very able debater. Really, I've no idea where you get that idea from. He's hopeless.

(ever wonder why Cameron isn't keen on the leader debates?). He's manipulated it to his benefit. Who wouldn't if they had the power to?

and he didn't 'tear his family apart' or 'stab his poor brother in the back'!

It should never have happened, it didn't do either of them any favours.

As for tax avoidance, it's legal. It's wrong, but it's legal. Parties need to change the laws, not spout rhetoric about stopping companies doing something they are entitled to do

Yep. But international trading laws are difficult, it's much easier to spout about it being terrible than it is to actually do anything about it. However, aeM isn't going to have to do anything about it, as he won't get in, so he can just try to look like the good guy. Let's face it, even if he did get in, he still wouldn't have to actually do anything about it, would he. They all need to be more accountable.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 18:11

Fanny

Green is no better. Have you actually read or listened to any of their proposals? God help us all if they got in.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 07/02/2015 18:11

Thank you. Britanniagate

I might vote Tory this time, just to make sure UKIP don't get in - especially now my ocean-going, armour-plated, 24-carat bore of an MP isn't standing again.

Hopefully another woman in parliament, too.

caroldecker · 07/02/2015 18:15

I do love the action promised in the article to quote:

if they do not act we will recommend to the OECD that they are put on a blacklist
