Ed Miliband promises not to back down on tax avoidance, and promises to put UK tax havens on blacklist unless they end their system of secrecy

www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/feb/06/ed-miliband-tax-avoidance-business-labour

This will make a huge difference to our economy, and unlike Cameron who has completely ignored the issue, and instead of making these multi billionares pay their fare share of taxes, he wants to bring cuts to benefits, when normal people are really struggling as it is.

We really need to get rid of the Tory government, whose policies have mainly been just to make the rich richer. Miliband might not have the charisma and charm that people want to see in a leader, but at least he'll get rid of Cameron and his super rich cronies.

YABU. I'll be voting Labour, but not because of some mealy-mouthed half-baked nonsense about telling people off for doing something perfectly legal.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 07/02/2015 18:19

As for where I'd move to, out of the country, obviously. Chipping

How selflessly patriotic of you, fleeing the country in its hour of need.

I'm sure we'd get by without you, nevertheless.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 18:23

I'm sure you would Cat Grin

Bearing in mind I never said otherwise.

FannyFifer · 07/02/2015 18:24

I forget Scottish Greens are a different party altogether, they are def worth a vote here, SNP for general election though.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 18:25

I do agree though. If EM got in, the UK would definitely be in it's 'hour of need'.

Thankfully it's not something we're going to need to worry about.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 18:28

Fanny. I don't know much about Scottish Greens, but The Green Party would be a quick road to disaster. Faster than even Labour could manage.

SMP. That's a whole other thread Grin. Is there a decent one going?

CaptainAnkles · 07/02/2015 18:34

All the people saying how it's so unlikely Labour will win - aren't they either in the lead or pretty much equal with the Tories in all the polls lately? I will be voting Labour but not because of this policy in particular.

laughingmyarseoff · 07/02/2015 18:37

YABU, all the parties are liars and this is nothing more then a false promise to lure desperate, hopeful and naive people.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 07/02/2015 18:38

Glad you manage to be so optimistic, while checking you've renewed your passport.

I think a Milibean government is a highly likely outcome, still - or even worse, a Labour-SNP coalition...

Oh, God, the mere thought....

richthegreatcornholio · 07/02/2015 18:40

What a fucking joke. Ed's the best thing that's happened to the Conservatives in a long time. As for me, I'd rather eat broken glass and attack my balls with a belt sander than vote Labour.

Sallyingforth · 07/02/2015 18:41

TheCat

Your thought terrifies me. It would be a disaster.

yonisareforever · 07/02/2015 18:42

But milliband and his set are the super rich cronies. They all are.

My family are Northern Labour through and through.
Labour simply doesn't reflect or represent them anymore.

High minded patronising London intelligentsia sitting in London chatting, away from the real troubles of the country. Sneery, out of touch, weak.

yonisareforever · 07/02/2015 18:43

Well, thats one way of putting it Grin

Meechimoo · 07/02/2015 18:44

The labour party think they have the monopoly on compassion. They still fuck over poor people, perhaps even more so than the Tories.

Viviennemary · 07/02/2015 18:50

I do agree with Miliband on this. But it won't make me vote Labour. Not this time. And all this attacking of business. Somebody said on TV if there was nobody actually making money there wouldn't be any NHS or schools. Where on earth do they think all the money comes from. Printed in some underground bank near Hogwarts.

CrystalHaze · 07/02/2015 18:54

Is this a 'thing' now? Following on from the last general election being referred to as the 'mumsnet election', are politicians now getting stooges to subtly insert their propaganda on forums, in the hopes that we'll fall for it?

AndreaZuckerman · 07/02/2015 18:56

I'll be voting Labour like I always do. TBH I'd be happy with anyone else getting in (apart from Farage) as long as Cameron and Fat Cat cronies get booted out.

isitsnowingyet · 07/02/2015 18:57

Well said OP. Yes - I will definitely be voting Labour. Although I do think they could do better with a different leader.

I bet a lot of people on this forum have taken advantage of the 5 x 1/2 days child care for 3 year olds. That was a legacy of the Labour party that was extremely helpful to me when we had 3 x kids under 5. And dare I say - compassionate to families?

orangeone · 07/02/2015 18:57

I work in the NHS and have done for nearly two decades. Hell will therefore freeze over before I vote Tory as another 5 years of a Tory government will sound the end of the NHS. I don't think EM is great, this policy is a popularity vote but I am sick to death of elections being judged on the face value of politicians and whether they seem 'nice' or speak well. I will read all the manifestos, consider parties records to date (based on fact not propaganda or spin) and then either vote accordingly or enter a polling booth and spoil my ballet paper in protest as I am lucky to have the right to do. Grin

ArabellaStrange · 07/02/2015 19:00

Democracy in this country isn't really very democratic. Voting doesn't change anything beyond who is making the policies within the frame work that already exists. In order for our voices and opinions to actually make an impact on the direction this country takes, the whole system would have to be over hauled.

Fugacity · 07/02/2015 19:01

I can't think of any reason to vote Labour

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 19:03

I think we should all spoil our papers. Get rid of the lot of them and start afresh.

Wouldn't that be lovely.

Real people, working together, for the good of the people.

mywholelifeisaheadache · 07/02/2015 19:07

Spoiling your paper is as good as not voting. I say this over and over again. A spoiled paper is a wasted vote it achieves nothing other than to make you feel smug.

If you don't like the candidates put your money where your mouth is and stand as an independent candidate.

If labour get in we are screwed

ChippingInGluggingOn · 07/02/2015 19:09

If you don't like the candidates put your money where your mouth is and stand as an independent candidate

Ridiculous comment.

mywholelifeisaheadache · 07/02/2015 19:11

Why is it ridiculous?

That is an option in this country. You are entitled to run as an independent mp if you so wish. Al Murray and Martin Bell to name two
