on Saturday, after yet another pitiful excuse for not going to the gym ( "Oh well, can't find a bobble to tie my hair back, can't go with my hair in my face...") I cancelled my gym membership. Again.

Then in a fit of panic and guilt ran out and bought a kettlebell and have been frantically YouTubing workouts to do in my living room.

Do you have a workout you can share with me? Or do you have willpower of steel and actually go to the gym?

I walk for hours every day and do 1 7 minute workout a day.

I book classes - they're included with my membership fee but if I don't turn up, I get charged full price on top of my membership. That motivates me if nothing else can! I aim to do 2-3 classes a week, plus walking and cycling at the weekends. It's not much exercise compared to some but it keeps me reasonably fit - any more and I am too tired to function in the rest of my life.

Ihatemytoes · 03/02/2015 09:59

Body combat once a week, netball 3 times a week

MaelstromOfLunacy · 03/02/2015 09:59

I don't have the discipline to just do a workout at the gym, so go to the classes instead - bodypump, legs bums and tums, Pilates - and then go for a swim afterwards.

scortja · 03/02/2015 10:01

I have a fitbit and I walk and walk and walk..

hellsbellsmelons · 03/02/2015 10:02

I haven't been to the gym in a month myself.
Thinking of cancelling membership.
But I'm booked onto the Yoga class tonight.
I love the step class on a Saturday morning.
Sometimes manage Pilates on a Sunday morning.
And when I'm 'on it' also do express Yoga on a Friday after work.
Must must must get back into it!
It starts today! (well... hopefully!!!)

Kachan · 03/02/2015 10:03

I do boxercise, yoga and an adult ballet class each week. I also try to fit in a brisk walk each day. I used to do a Showgirl fitness class which was the best exercise:fun ratio which is what I look for and have yet to find in the gym.

ghostyslovesheep · 03/02/2015 10:03

I do 2 boot camps a week - which involve sprinting, running, and toning (1 hour each)

plus I do 1 or 2 hours aerobics classes (2 if I have time on a Friday morning)

I also walk a lot

26Point2Miles · 03/02/2015 10:04

I just run.... Trainers on and go. Think about it once I'm 3 miles in..

kewtogetin · 03/02/2015 10:05

HIIT 4 times a week, only been exercising for the past year for the first time in my whole life. Can't believe the differences it's made to my life. I'm now one of those boring people who constantly bangs on about how great working out is......

FelixFelix · 03/02/2015 10:05

I tried going to the gym but it bores the life out of me. I have a road bike and use that instead.

LittleSpark · 03/02/2015 10:06

ourglass what is your 7 min workout ?

OP posts:
ahbollocks · 03/02/2015 10:08

Walk about 3 miles everyday and do squats and crunches to tone

beachysandy75 · 03/02/2015 10:11

3 gym classes, swim or gym sessions a week at the moment. School run on foot (so about 30 mins walking a day), usually go on a long walk or bike ride at the weekend too.

gotthemoononastick · 03/02/2015 10:12

I do a full hour of ballet bar excersizes every single early morning and have done so for sixty years! The music is my meditation.

I did bring up a family, garden, and ate lots of cake with friends as well.

SASASI · 03/02/2015 10:12

Pre DS I did 3 gym classes & 2 runs a week.

I now do a bit of walking & yoga once a week but I'd love to get to a body pump class again, it's great for toning. Hopefully once he is weaning. I find expressing too big a faff to do more than once or twice a week!

trulybadlydeeply · 03/02/2015 10:12

Run 5k three times a week and walk for 30 minutes on the days I don't run.

I was never, ever a runner. 6 months ago if you'd told be I would be running regularly I'd have laughed. But I downloaded the free nhs couch to 5k app, and it works. I spent years forking out for wasted gym memberships, yet running, aside from trainers and running clothes, costs nothing.

CMOTDibbler · 03/02/2015 10:15

I cycle (20-30miles), run (5-10km) or swim (1-1.5km). I try to do this 6 days a week, and sometimes do more than one thing in a day.

I loathe working out indoors, and would hate a class

LadyLuck10 · 03/02/2015 10:18

Is there anyone you can partner with to encourage each other? DH and I motivate each other so it really pushes you when you just can't muster up the energy to go. We usually go when the kids have activities, drop them off and go to gym.

Nervo · 03/02/2015 10:19

Nothing really. Other than walking and taking public transport rather than driving and having a job where I am not sedentary all day. Oh, and I make the whole family go for a walk most Saturdays and Sundays.

I do have a spinal condition though so there's not much I could do.

uggmum · 03/02/2015 10:19

I do 3 x 1hr zumba classes and I class of kettlebells. I'm thinking of starting a session of yoga a week.

BreeVDKamp · 03/02/2015 10:21

30 Day Shred
Insanity

Both good to do from home

Yoga/Pilates DVD
8 Minute Abs/Arms on YouTube - the guy is astonishing..... Shock
20 min run
Walk a lot in daily life, doesn't really count
Wear ankle weights around the house Grin
Random aerobics - write yourself 10 exercises, put music on, do them for 30 secs each, repeat like 4x or something

LittleMissRayofHope · 03/02/2015 10:23

Another vote for running.

I wasted hundreds of pounds and years of life on unused gym memberships - I'd always start out really well but it would fizzle out.then I downloaded c25k from the nhs change for life app and started running.
I was surprised how easy I found it and how much I enjoyed it!!
I was never ever a runner!
Am a few weeks in and have stuck at it as you see results each week so it's better in my head then the gym.

Plus all you need is a decent pair of trainers and just go... No monthly membership fee! Yay!

BreeVDKamp · 03/02/2015 10:24

I want to try Davina's new 7 min workout thing and LOVE the idea above of ballet in the mornings :)
