on Saturday, after yet another pitiful excuse for not going to the gym ( "Oh well, can't find a bobble to tie my hair back, can't go with my hair in my face...") I cancelled my gym membership. Again.

Then in a fit of panic and guilt ran out and bought a kettlebell and have been frantically YouTubing workouts to do in my living room.

Do you have a workout you can share with me? Or do you have willpower of steel and actually go to the gym?

OP posts:
StrawberryTot · 03/02/2015 23:12

I go to the gym 5 days a week with DH before he goes to work, we both do cardio and I finish with light weights. I swim with the children as often as I can. Also walks around the local park.

Musicaltheatremum · 03/02/2015 23:24

1 session with trainer once a week plus 2-3 hour sessions more at the gym. Lots of weights and step ups and lunges. This is what helps the bones and the muscles. Starting to see changes. Want to walk when weather better.

Bellwether · 04/02/2015 00:07

I found something I really enjoyed - weightlifting - and now I can't wait til my next workout. I also walk a lot. I love martial arts, hiking and mountain-biking as well. I'd love to try parkour too, and there's a climbing centre in the city I want to get to once the kids are in school so I can try climbing and bouldering.

It's about finding that thing you enjoy, I guess. I personally don't enjoy running and don't find those gentle move-your-limb-up-and-down workouts very challenging, so those didn't suit me. Once I found my thing it didn't take willpower - I really look forward to it.

CharityD · 04/02/2015 00:21

Walk, walk and then I walk some more.

Have also done c25k and enjoyed it.

ToysRLuv · 04/02/2015 01:34

A bit of walking on most days, but otherwise none. Used to like the gym, but don't live near one now (and have no car). Also, don't have spare money. I'd love to do lots of horse riding, but can't :(

For a while I did one HIIT exercise a week on the stationery bike, but can't be bothered any more.

I've done running before (up to 10 k), but always hated it.

Oh well..

CaoNiMa · 04/02/2015 01:45

Ashtanga yoga five times a week. It's an active form of yoga so a great workout for the whole body. It's the same routine every time so you know what's coming, and it's good for the mind/spirit as well.

SpottedTent · 04/02/2015 02:05

I do a fair amount of running - up to 10k or so in a session as many times a week as I can fit in around shift work and the children. Currently training for my first triathlon and avoiding swimming... Having an event booked in does wonders for your motivation so would recommend it. Gyms and classes have never worked for me really, I like being outdoors and having the freedom to explore. Plus it's cheap (ignoring the insane amount I spent on my last pair of trainers!) To save time I have run to work with a bag strapped to my back, but I wouldn't recommend this as frankly it's painful running with 7kg.
Guess everyone is different so it's finding your groove. I say this as someone who tried gyms for years and years and couldn't stick to it.

legspinner · 04/02/2015 08:12

I'm not a gym person at all - bike to work (but only 4 kms) swim a couple of times a week (2-2.5 km each time), long road cycle at weekend if I can. If none of those things, a local hillwalk - I need to do something every day.
Spotted I'm the opposite of you - want to do a tri, and have yet to begin running again as I am no good at it and have a mental block about it - I'm a swimmer at heart! Take comfort from the swim being first, and then your strongest event being last. And go and do that swimming (easy to say I know).
Sorry for hijack -as you were...
OP could you find a buddy to do your workouts with? No getting out then!

legspinner · 04/02/2015 08:14

I'm also with spotted on needing an event to train for.

SpottedTent · 04/02/2015 09:37

Thanks legspinner, I've had a friend say exactly the same thing! I'm fearing the unknown and have convinced myself that I'm crap at swimming so putting it off... Will do it very soon because the pressure is mounting!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 04/02/2015 09:47

I did a half marathon last may. As it was the start of spring I didn't train nearly as much as I should have done. I hurt my knee and couldn't even walk without feeling a slight pain. So didn't exercise properly for 4 months. I put on a stone (I did eat a lot of cake and Ice Cream too) and finding that really difficult to lose (I have stopped eating as much crap too)

Im not very good at motivating myself to train for an event (Ive only done 10Ks at other times though), but with the help of a friend who is also doing the event I think I would find it much easier to train. I did the HM by myself.

VictorineMeurent · 04/02/2015 10:39

Spin classes twice a week + yoga once. I'll be running again in April, one my fitness levels are restored.

DamsonInDistress · 04/02/2015 11:02

Like many others I run 5k three days a week and after two years I'm now now managing sub 30 mins!, I swim at least once a week (25 lengths whilst the boys are in their lesson) and sometimes manage another longer session where I do at least 50 lengths. We also cycle or walk every weekend as a family, even if it's just a short one hour jaunt somewhere. I also try and get two wii fit yoga sessions a week in too, in new to yoga and I know wii fit wouldn't be everyone's first choice but the stretching really helps me.

Written down it sounds like more than it feels, but there are some weeks where I might not get any of it done at all, I'm quite ill this week for example so have only managed a single run so far, might get a swim in tomorrow but doubt it.

cosmicboy · 04/02/2015 15:08

None Hmm
Oh dear, am I the only one or the only one who has owned up?
I'm tiny, people always presume I'm a gym bunny but I worry that I must be horribly unfit.
Where do I start?

StackladysMorphicResonator · 04/02/2015 15:51

Try www.grokker.com, it's got loads of stuff you can do from the comfort of your own living room - particularly good are Jon Stratford's and Sarah Kusch's workouts, I can't believe how much fitter I've become since starting in early Jan.

AWimbaWay · 04/02/2015 16:10

cosmicboy I'm also none, also naturally quite slim but feel really unhealthy and lethargic all the time, I keep promising myself I'll get motivated some day soon, but that day never arrives, it would appear I'm naturally quite slim and very lazy Hmm.

queenofthemountains · 04/02/2015 16:20

On average
Body pump 3 times a week
Swim for 50 mins 2 times a week
Body balance once or twice
Cycle for 45 mins twice a week.
If I can't get to a class I do the shred off youtube

I can't run or do high impact due to plantar fascitus in my heels. I'd like to start doing Kettles again but I find it really hard to leave the house in the evening.

Boobsofsteel · 04/02/2015 16:27

Yogaglo is awesome. I get bored of DVDs but there is a massive selection of classes in all disciplines with a choice of level and time. Free 25 day trial then $19 dollars a month.

It's proper reignited my yoga passion Grin

messalina · 04/02/2015 23:32

I run 50 miles a week over five runs. I run with an athletics club. Also do strength conditioning three times a week at home or in Gym.

fatlazymummy · 04/02/2015 23:39

cosmicboy wimbaway I started by doing wii fit at home. I did the aerobics, muscle and yoga routines, about 45 minutes a day. It improved my cardio and co ordination to the stage where I felt confident enough to go swimming.
And brisk walking is probably the best exercise of all, when it comes to general health.

IronMaggie · 04/02/2015 23:58

ourglass, I always recommend this site for good quick workouts - FitnessBlender. I'm sure you'll be able to find a good use for your kettlebell on there.

FindoGask · 05/02/2015 05:28

IronMaggie - that site is ace, thank you! I'm watching the "brutal HIIT cardio and kettlebell" workout now and it looks great. Horrible, but great.

chrome100 · 05/02/2015 05:38

In the week I get up at 530 and run and swim before work

I also walk to work

A couple of times a week I go to the gym at lunch

I also cycle everywhere

At the weekend it depends - sometimes nothing, sometimes loads, maybe a long bike ride with friends or a hike.

IDismyname · 05/02/2015 06:23

I do 3 x aerobic dance classes a week, 1 x Pilates and walk dogs for about 40 mins a day.

I enjoy my classes. Have made friends and it's enough to make me keep going.

Madamecastafiore · 05/02/2015 06:31

This week 2 PT sessions, 2 spin classes, 2 abs classes and a run.
Mix it up with swimming or more running other weeks when not so cold.
