on Saturday, after yet another pitiful excuse for not going to the gym ( "Oh well, can't find a bobble to tie my hair back, can't go with my hair in my face...") I cancelled my gym membership. Again.

Then in a fit of panic and guilt ran out and bought a kettlebell and have been frantically YouTubing workouts to do in my living room.

Do you have a workout you can share with me? Or do you have willpower of steel and actually go to the gym?

I enjoy classes at the gym. I do Kettlebells, Insane Abs and Metafit. I also do Parkrun every week. On top of that I like to go to the gym another 2 times - though I might swap the gym for running when the weather gets a bit warmer. I also like to walk. I haven't walked for a while, but yesterday afternoon I did need to go out for an hour. I am thinking about trying to get into the habit of having an afternoon walk every day.

One thing I find with exercise (or I have found in the past) is that its routine and its getting into the habit. Once that has gone its hard to get back and takes a bit of work.

I think the secret is to find something you enjoy. If its not the gym then fair enough try other things.

Run 5k 3 times a week. Always have to kick my own butt out the door but always feel amazing once its done. Although I do hate running in the dark during the winter

Walk between 2 and 4 miles most days

10-15 mins Pilates at home a few times a week

Elliptic5 · 03/02/2015 11:35

Hour dog walk every day
Spin class once a week
Hydrospin once a week
Pilates class once a week
One hour swim once a week
Cycling most weekends
Plus as soon as the decent weather starts I shall be back to my garden (1.7 acres, keeps me quite busy Grin )

Dp and I joined a really expensive gym and signed the dc up too. Thats motivation enough for me to ensure I get off my arse and use it.
Checking out my profile, I went 24 times in January - and we were on holiday for the first 5 days so I went pretty much every day.

I do 2 spin classes a week, take the dc swimming often twice over the weekend, they do a couple of clubs during the week after school so I drop them and spend 45 minutes in the gym. I also try and squeeze in a body pump and body vive class.
It takes up a lot of my time, I'm a SAHM but I really enjoy it and it's good for my mental health aswell as physically.

I go late Sunday night for a swim and a bit of spa time (by which I mean I sit in the outdoor jacuzzi!). The DC are in bed and dp watches a film while I go and have a couple of hours. It's my favourite time of the week!

Cleanbean · 03/02/2015 11:42

I walk at least three miles a day with a long walk (around 14 miles) at the weekend. I also do a Pilates class every week.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/02/2015 11:46

I go to an outdoor strength and conditioning class - all year round, rain, snow, sunshine. I love that it's outdoors, gyms are so stuffy and smelly.

We use kettle bells, bars, trees, hills, anything really.

I have a personal training session once a week which focuses on strength, core, flexibility and some fitness. It seems expensive but it is the best value I have ever found in terms of fitness and feeling good.

I swim when I have the time but the nearest decent pool is 25 minutes drive away and the programme is tricky. In the summer I swim in the sea.

kittykarate · 03/02/2015 11:49

Walk 2 miles every day
Horse ride once a week
Pilates once a week
Ice skate once a week.
Exercise videos from youtube once a week.

Sirzy · 03/02/2015 11:52

I walk at least 1000 steps a day normally around 12000

I run 3 times a week

I powerhoop/kettle bell/weights every evening

Writerwannabe83 · 03/02/2015 11:53

For three days a week I required to power walk for approximately 11 hours.

That's enough exercise for me.

When I was younger I was part of a gym (£32 a month) and I went about 5 times in 18 months and then I cancelled my membership Smile

ouryve · 03/02/2015 11:54

I walk lots and do specific exercises prescribed by my physio to stabilise my lower back. CBA with going to a gym and would probably do myself damage on a lot of the equipment.

NimpyWWindowmash · 03/02/2015 11:57

gyms are boring.

Find something you enjoy, then you'll go because you WANT to.

I only enjoy swimming and tennis, so that is all I do in terms of exercise.

purpleponcho · 03/02/2015 11:57

ANything Jillian- Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and No More Trouble Zones are seriously good workouts.

SubmergedInSnow · 03/02/2015 11:57

I do nothing except walk around at toddler pace and sometimes carry the washing upstairs (although I often take the lift). I am desperately unfit and I need to do something but have never figured out how to exercise and look after the children simultaneously.

MagnetsOnItsTail · 03/02/2015 12:02

I walk for the dog for around an hour daily and swim once a week. I've started doing hilly walks with the dog, so I can shift a few pounds.

squoosh · 03/02/2015 12:07

I walk about 5 miles a day. Helps my mood and my weight.

stopgap · 03/02/2015 12:09

Weight training, cycling, spinning and sprint intervals. I was a long distance runner for 20 years but feel disinclined to maintain that, now that I have a thyroid condition. Especially with the weights, I feel and look the best I've felt in years.

QueenVick · 03/02/2015 12:12

I walk a lot and go to kickboxing. Right now I am still building up my fitness so only kickboxing 1-2 days a week. (I had a heart procedure via keyhole 4 weeks ago) Once I'm back to my previous fitness I hope to be going to kickboxing up to 4 times a week, occasionally more and occasionally less.

I prefer to be in a class based environment as I find it MUCH more supportive and an hours workout at kickboxing can burn up to 1000 calories, also it helps to tone me up as I my cardiologist recommends for me to not lift weights.

I cycle to work (about 4 miles each way, so 40 miles a week), and I do horse riding and pilates once a week. I find it difficult to motivate myself at the gym, so things that fit into my daily routine (like commuting by bike) or that are fun anyway (like riding) work best for me. I also tried a few different pilates classes before I found an instructor that I really liked - I think having a good teacher makes a big difference.

Treeceratops · 03/02/2015 12:30

Pre-DS I swam 1k twice a week and walked/cycled everywhere. Now I run twice a week, chase after a toddler and walk. For me it was about finding a time that I can definitely manage and efficiency, which is why running works so well. Plus it's something I enjoy.

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 03/02/2015 12:38

1x insanity
1x boxing class followed by a swim
1x spin class

I love love love it. You need to get in to a routine and stick to it.

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 03/02/2015 12:39

Oh and I walk. One of the beauties of having children, you walk. Everywhere.

fatlazymummy · 03/02/2015 12:40

I go swimming 2-3 times a week, walk at least 2 miles a day (just because I don't drive) and do things indoors like squats, crunches and exercises with dumbells. I should do more of the indoor exercises, tbh.
No need to go to the gym if you don't feel comfortable OP. There are hundreds of things you can do, lots of them are free and are things you can do in your daily life (climbing stairs ,eg, something that is always included on weightloss/fitness programmes).
Good luck!

NancyRaygun · 03/02/2015 12:40

Another "NHS Couch to 5k" here. I love it, best exercise regime I have ever done and now running feels part of my life. HIGHLY recommend it instead of boring gym.

StrikesMatches · 03/02/2015 12:46

I've been sick for the last 3 weeks and really miss the little bit I was doing. I try to do 3 classes (strength and conditioning bootcamp and/or boxercise) and three runs a week (one to/from a bootcamp class). I did the couch to 5k thing too and it was brilliant. I'm trying to push myself through the 10k programme now, as I've signed up for 2 10km races before the summer!

Whatever exercise you're doing, invest in a the best bra you can afford...
