on Saturday, after yet another pitiful excuse for not going to the gym ( "Oh well, can't find a bobble to tie my hair back, can't go with my hair in my face...") I cancelled my gym membership. Again.

Then in a fit of panic and guilt ran out and bought a kettlebell and have been frantically YouTubing workouts to do in my living room.

Do you have a workout you can share with me? Or do you have willpower of steel and actually go to the gym?

Bikram yoga 3-4 times per week with the odd run. I'm down to a 6-8 despite eating like a hog on heat.

bluesbaby · 03/02/2015 13:08

Varies. This week, nothing, I'm stuck inside while I'm ill. Sad

Usually I hit up at least one session of Aerial Silks a week, and try to get to the gym x2 in the week. I'll sometimes also attend boxercise class, kettlebells class, yoga, go swimming, or rock climbing.

In the summer I switch it up a bit and incorporate outside runs and outside workouts (I have weights at home which I'll take into the garden) - I incorporate weightlifting, skipping, and body weight exercises (the best - push ups, crunches, leg raises, pull ups, squats, lunges).

When I can be bothered and have more energy (i.e. not right now...) I'll do a proper 30-45 minutes stretching session once a week after the gym, because one of my goals is to get the side splits and good back bends for my aerial classes so I can learn more tricks.

Virtually none! I went on a couple of walks in January.

Before Christmas I was using my x trainer/exercise machine for 10/20 mins most days and trying to walk 3 times a week. I also did tae bo videos etc a few times (over a few weeks). I'm very unfit and don't have much stamina for serious exercise. I certainly can't go running!
I can do gentle walks but not for more than an hour or two at the most. I went swimming a couple of weeks ago but only managed 4 lengths.

ourglass · 03/02/2015 13:30

Little it's an app for iPhone. I'm a lazy bastard so can't go to the gym or use 30 day shred. 7MW is perfect for me.

Instituteofstudies · 03/02/2015 13:30

This winter I signed up for the governments Lets Get Active pilot in our area. It offers free gym and swimming sessions for people who wouldn't be able to access gyms. I am on v v low budget and no way could afford it otherwise, so I'm really glad of this initiative and hope they keep running it. I do between 40-60 mins in the gym on average 4 times a week. In warmer weather I walk as fast as I can, for an hour a day most days, and do around 4 or 5 k. I hate just about all forms of exercise but I have high blood pressure and osteopenia, so want to keep on with it. I love the feeling of self-righteousness when I've got it over with for the day!

lavenderhoney · 03/02/2015 13:39

Bit of yoga when I get up ( half an hour earlier than anyone else) run 3/ 4 times a week for 50 mins inbetween work/ picking dc up from school, yoga class once s week and good old gillian ripped or something should I be trapped inside due to poorly dc/ school hols. And housework, gardening, playing tag with dc.

I am very organised. Everything is ready always, for excercise.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/02/2015 13:51

Find at least 1 sport or exercise you enjoy and can do a few times per week, without a tiresome journey or complicated childcare arrangements.
Doesn't matter if it's gym / club / park / at home.
Add a brisk walk most days.
To be fit, build up to at least 3 hrs total per week.
It helps to have a fitness buddy.

I belong to 2 gyms Blush < greedy > because I enjoy the company, music, professional facilities.
I train 6 days per week: weight-lifting, boxing, Tabata, HIIT and HIT spin.
Also, I cycle to / from work and gym, but each journey is only 2 miles.
I take a short walk most days.

pantsjustpants · 03/02/2015 18:50

I do an insanity type Hiit class at 6am every morning. It's a 6 week course with a week off in between. I tend to do every other one. When I'm not doing that I do a Hiit class once a week and the 30 day shred.
Would really like to find a yoga or Pilates class that I can get to.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 03/02/2015 19:15

Walk everywhere and cycle to work.

I need to start going swimming again, keep putting it off or something just occurs to prevent me anyway.

familygermsareok · 03/02/2015 19:31

Run at least 4 times a week, how far depends on how long I've got.
Couldn't run 500 yards 8 years ago, do half marathons now. Love it.
Cheap, easy, can do anywhere for any time, alone or with company.
Couch2 5k is supposed to be a great way to get started if you haven't run before. Also check out local parkruns.

Dionysuss · 03/02/2015 19:32

I take and collect the DC from school on foot each day, it's 20 minutes each way.
The dog gets walked for at least 45mins daily.
Three times a week I go to the gym. I do 20 mins rowing, running, cycling and cross training. I do some weights aswell.
Twice a week I swim. Once proper lengths, the other floating round with DC.
I also carry DS everywhere as he had gotten extremely clingy. His nearly 2 stone so I'm getting great arms

packofbaloobas · 03/02/2015 19:41

I have a ministepper in the sitting room and I do an hour on it while catching up on my programmes before the dc get up . During that hour ill lie on the carpet and do some toning exercises too. It's great cos I don't feel it as I'm watching tv.

packofbaloobas · 03/02/2015 19:42

Its great not its sat.
I do this every morning

MrsMook · 03/02/2015 20:10

I do a mix. Buggy Babes with a 4 year old in the pram and a 2 year old on my back. A circuits class on a Saturday morning. An evening Zumba class, and running a couple of times a week. I also recommend the C25k. I'd never been a runner; I was the one wheezing around the school field in agony from stitches and shin splints, but within a year I'd gone from the 60 second runs to a half marathon. I started the running because my cardiovascular fitness had been utterly trashed by a year of SPD which had involved cruches and crawling up the stairs.

The gym leaves me cold. It takes a lot of motivation, and is too easy to waste time there being unproductive. Classes have that motivation to get out, and it's harder to bow to the whinges of your body.

Being fit and unfit both make your body whinge. Being fit just means you accomplish more for the same discomfort!

DarkHeart · 03/02/2015 22:15

I work out most days - do four cardio sessions per week, two weights sessions and a boxing class. I swim occasionally and Aldo go to the gym.

NormaLeeSane · 03/02/2015 22:21

I swim most days. But I have to go early, otherwise I'll find an excuse not to do it.
I use flippers to get a great leg workout. I have a dodgy shoulder and sometimes can't swim overarm in which case I use a kick board. I probably look ridiculous but it's true that no-one looks at you!

FindoGask · 03/02/2015 22:25

I run every other day, about 5 or 6 miles, which I'm building back up after injury. I alternate running days with exercise at home - usually one of Bob Harper's DVDs (which are excellent), weights, kettlebells (I have an 8kg and a 12 kg one - working up to the 12) or yoga. I aim for 6 days a week but quite often only manage 5.

Exercising on my own in the mornings works best for me, as I am both skint and busy most of the day.

FatPatricia · 03/02/2015 22:25

Haven't read the whole thread, however I use the Nike training club app at home as I'm too embarrassed to exercise in public (plus gym memberships are expensive!) and I find it really does the trick as long as you're willing to put everything into it Grin

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 03/02/2015 22:26

Oi, stop slagging off the gym! Some of us like it!

I do a spinning class then kettlebells on a Monday and a long gym session on a Friday. In between that I'll have a couple of shorter gym sessions before work and a run at the weekend.

I really look forward to exercising and am gutted if I cant go for a day or two. I just cant understand people who have no interest in keeping fit.

FindoGask · 03/02/2015 22:31

forgot to say, the other thing I find myself doing is setting myself little challenges - like last year I wanted to build up to doing a set of full press-ups for every year of my age (then 35), which I did. Then it was planking for as long as possible. Now it's teaching myself chin-ups and pull-ups - I got a pull-up bar for Christmas (one that you don't have to screw into the door, it's cleverly cantilevered) and so far I can do 5 chin-ups but only with a short rest between each one, about 3/4 of one pull up (!), and am aiming to be able to do at least 10 reps of each by the end of the year.

StandingNextToMe · 03/02/2015 22:38

Bree who is it who does the 8 minute abs/arms, that sounds good. I've had a quick look but there are loads.

DamselNotInHerDress · 03/02/2015 22:41

Harold im a gym lover too! Though to be fair, it's a recent discovery. I really enjoy the classes I do, the motivation is forced upon you to join in and complete it. I go on the spin bike when theres no class on but I know I dont work as hard as I do during a class.

I've also really got into using the different machines and ive set myself a few different programmes that I stick with. Some of the equipment have tvs built into them so I have been known to watch an episode or 2 of something while cycling, and other times I watch films on my phone.

Ive spent years neglecting my body and just got used to being wobbly but now when I see my reflection im happy that the hard work is paying off. Being able to wear a vest top or strappy something in the summer without worrying about my wobbly upper arms keeps me going!

meglet · 03/02/2015 22:41

I'm afraid I walk a lot (run keeper puts me at 6 miles a day), go to the gym 3 times a week, one shred dvd session and sometime a parkrun.

BreeVDKamp · 03/02/2015 22:49

Standing it's this dude!! It's all 80s and amazing Grin I found it effective. Hope the link works, I'm on my phone.
