help for strikethrough please

just to say, mumsnet has been an amazing help for me for so long, and through the many dilemmas of my life.

just wondering if someone who has the time or inclination can help.

I have been trying to do the "strikethrough" on my messages for ages.
I have looked online, but still can't grasp the best way to achieve it.

can anyone help?

Turned off 'Smart Punctuation' on iPad as suggested by pp so trying again:

I love the strikethrough and wish it was available on my work email system, but alas it doesn't work

It also doesn't work on my iPhone, for some reason it turns the two dashes into one long dash which then doesn't translate into a strikethrough. Nothing worse than a strikethrough fail on a post! Does anyone else have this iPhone problem? Can it be fixed??

I have struggled with this for months:( I am on a MAC.
Settings made no difference. I copied and pasted the example and it worked - still don't understand why dashes don't work from my kb but I have a workaround :)
