Do people really cry/laugh out loud, over threads?

I find some threads shocking, very sad, amusing and even really funny, but I don't do any of the above.

AIBU for not reacting as extremely as some people appear to do?
AIBU in thinking people exagerate when saying these things?

Some things have me really laughing.

I get looks from the dc.

I have laughed out loud on a few occasions, mainly reading some of the threads on classics-lemon drizzle bitch had me in stitches.

There have been one or two REALLY funny threads where I have actually laughed hard enough to have tears but not very often, maybe 2 or 3 times in the 8 years I've been here

I don't cry - I do laugh - some posters have even made me guffaw in a REALLY unattractive way!

I've laughed out loud often enough for wither DP or the DCs to roll their eyes and go "She's on Mumsnet again"

I basically never laugh or cry out loud at anything I read, anywhere. I think people exaggerate.

No, I think people say this sort of thing for dramatic effect.

Similar to what kids do.

I absolutely loathe the way some posters try to be graphic and say stuff like "there was a bit of sick in my mouth on reading that", or "A little wee came out". I mean, WTF? There are grown ups writing that sort of nonsense!

I laugh out loud occasionally. There was a thread recently where a school had sent a letter home warning parents about "a man in a van with a dog dressed as a policeman" that actually made me choke on my tea.

I can laugh until tears squirt. It's rare I'm affected by sad threads though.

Yes I have laughed out loud at threads and yes I have cried when something was particularly sad or when it makes me recall something in my life. I have never really posted that I've cried (not even for dramatic effect!) You may not but it might surprise you to know that we aren't all made the same.

The only thread which ever made me laugh out loud was the Olympic Horses thread.

Have a chuckle at many threads from time to time, and often a thread will make me tear up - not sob my heart out though - as one thread in 'the doghouse' did today.

I suppose, sitting here on my own I'd probably being to feel I was a bit nuts if I started roaring with laughter.

I laugh out loud at some of them. I laugh quietly at quite a few of them and many more make me smile a lot.

I have occasionally cried at some, usually when someone has lost someone close. I tend not to read those ones for long, though, because I get too upset by it.

I have laughed til I cried at two threads here.
The first was one in classics 'I pooed on my skirt' (or something like that)
The second was the farting one, I read it last night and had to stop as I was laughing so much.

I don't get the humour at all on some of the threads, and they don't raise a smile let alone a laugh.
When it comes to farting though....

Since I had DS I'm really easy to tear up and actually cry so yes, a few threads have literally made me well up. I was never that sensitive before but now lots of stuff sets me off- can barely read the news anymore and was sad to discover I just can't watch/enjoy horror films like I used to.

I also tend to do an unattractive amused snort at some of the more ridiculous AIBUs.

I've only cried once, but I was fully sobbing.

I have laughed until my eyes are running. I've had threads make me laugh so much that when DH comes to see what's so funny, I'm beyond words and just have to point at the screen while gasping.

So yes, some of us really do laugh out loud, cry with laughter, or catch a little something in our eyes. :)

I laugh out loud at some threads. I do whenever I read something that really tickles me. I don't hold it in.

I haven't ever cried at a thread. It takes a lot to make me cry.

I've never cried, but I have laughed until tears are pouring down my face occasionally have never spat tea over a keyboard though.

I don't think it's fair that some of you are describing specific threads but not linking to them. I need to do a fair investigation.

I have lost it (laughing till I cried) a few times reading threads, last one like dishwasherdogs was last nights farting thread which I also couldn't finish, am now smiling to myself just remembering the thread, I obviously prefer the puerile :)

I've laughed out loud at lots of threads - mainly because I recognise things my kids do too. It's funnier when it's not you dealing with it. I've also cried at lots - some woolly hugs threads and ones were posters are dealing with an ill parent or a recent bereavement. It's cathartic, I don't want to cry at some situations in my own life, because I need to be strong at the minute but when I read another poster going through the same thing, or worrying about the same thing I can cry.
