Do people really cry/laugh out loud, over threads?

Frogme · 03/11/2014 12:29

I find some threads shocking, very sad, amusing and even really funny, but I don't do any of the above.

AIBU for not reacting as extremely as some people appear to do?
AIBU in thinking people exagerate when saying these things?

I was literally crying with laughter at the 'fart' thread yesterday. Proper floods of laughy-tears. It was great.

There's nothing odd about crying/laughing at something you read/watch/hear, surely? Why is MN any different? Hmm

Simile · 03/11/2014 12:51

I've not cried but oh yes I've sniggered, snorted, cackled and belly-laughed out loud.

I have also spat tea all over my laptop laughing so much (courtesy of TheSecondComing's minge). I assume that thread has a firm foothold in classics. Grin

DishwasherDogs · 03/11/2014 12:51

I pooed on my skirt at work today

DrankSangriaInThePark · 03/11/2014 12:51

I have never laughed out loud at a thread. In ten years.

I have found some threads very very funny, and some MNers are very very witty. And I take my hat off to them when they get stuff down on paper that you really find hilarious.

But no, still unlikely to actually "lol"

And maybe I'm strange, but I don't find poo/wee/sick/sperm/ remotely humorous. But then I'm not a 14 yr old boy.

Recently, the "hilarious" threads are just try-too-hard and so obviously made up for effect that they just cause a bit of an eye roll rather than a beverage-onto-keyboard moment.

I have, however, cried at a bazillion threads.

DishwasherDogs · 03/11/2014 12:53

Just coughed and farted in a very quiet cafe

A thread populated by 14 yr old boys Wink

Vycount · 03/11/2014 12:53

I come on here for a laugh to be honest. Grin

iwantgin · 03/11/2014 12:55

On a train and laughed Very loudly at the glittery shit thread.

So yes.

DidoTheDodo · 03/11/2014 12:55

I laughed a lot at the fart thread last night.

coraltoes · 03/11/2014 12:58

I have had tears in my eyes reading a bereavement thread. A poster lost their 3 yr old and it broke my heart thinking how I'd feel losing DD who is the same age.

I have also laughed at the many silly classics threads. I don't suppress my emotions though.

I have never had a little bit of sick in my mouth, although the sporn threads do make me a bit queasy.

Allbymyselfagain · 03/11/2014 12:58

Yep. I've had a whole pub want to know what I and my ex were laughing at once. Pom bears was particularly good, Mexican house thief was hilarious and penis beaker made me cry laughing. Would never write lol on a thread though!

ScrambledEggAndToast · 03/11/2014 12:58

Have definitely been a fair few sniggers but definitely no crying.

CarryOn90 · 03/11/2014 12:59

I laughed until I cried at penis beaker.

slithytove · 03/11/2014 13:00

I've laughed and cried and only mentioned it online when it's genuinely the case, e.g. I don't say 'lol' for dramatic effect. actually I don't say lol at all, it's dreadful

But this thread had me in floods, proper heaving sobs.

Threads on one specific topic are also guaranteed to get me crying. Admittedly, I am relatively emotional on that topic whether it's online or not.

bluesbaby · 03/11/2014 13:00

A couple of threads have made me laugh until I cried Grin I do snigger at very funny posts though - and then have to share the joke with the OH!

slithytove · 03/11/2014 13:01

There was a thread recently where a woman had a neighbour who called her cats in at night very loudly. Op posted a description of how the neighbour behaved when her partner told her to stop - it really tickled me and had me sniggering out loud at home.

I'll try and link to it.

slithytove · 03/11/2014 13:03

Oh, I've been either pregnant or postpartum for the past 3 years, so maybe I am justified in my crying?

Yabu for thinking people exaggerate but yanbu for not reacting in the same way.

Riverland · 03/11/2014 13:03

I have laughed out loud, yes! Lots of times. Lots of incredibly witty posters here.

A thread here the other day about a poster whose H wouldn't kiss her, avoided her face during sex, made me feel very low, I found it desperately sad.

AhhhhhhryaOfGhostHouseSnark · 03/11/2014 13:04

I have cried at some of the threads on here, there was one where a poster's husband was in the forces and trying to get home for Christmas that set me off, bereavement threads have also made me cry.
I have laughed out loud at some of the threads in classics, I love the pom bear thread, the bit about the cherry from the ice cream made me do a proper belly laugh.

patronisingbitchinthewardrobe · 03/11/2014 13:05

Yes. I'm easily moved.

slithytove · 03/11/2014 13:06

Op post of 22:45

VenusRising · 03/11/2014 13:07

I laughed out loud so badly last night on the fart thread- then laughed some more at how puerile I am!!Blush
Ha ha laughing now just thinking of that thread!Grin

BonaDea · 03/11/2014 13:07

I laughed out loud for sure at the Lemon Drizzle Cvnt thread.

I've also cried several times when hearing of the deaths of posters' DH or DC or parents before.

5madthings · 03/11/2014 13:08

Yes I have laughed out loud on threads here and cried. Lots of threads may make me snigger to myself.

Threads that have made me cry, mrsdeveres threads about her daughter and many threads where a posters child is very poorly, some of these are obviously long running and yes they have made me cry at times.

The lovely work the woollyhugs team does has made me cry.

AhhhhhhryaOfGhostHouseSnark · 03/11/2014 13:09

Grin thanks slit! I missed that thread, and yes, I chuckled out loud.

AhhhhhhryaOfGhostHouseSnark · 03/11/2014 13:10

Blush sorry, slithy.
