Do people really cry/laugh out loud, over threads?

I find some threads shocking, very sad, amusing and even really funny, but I don't do any of the above.

AIBU for not reacting as extremely as some people appear to do?
AIBU in thinking people exagerate when saying these things?

I've laughed until I've cried several times on MN, but I tend to cry when I laugh quite easily. Often it's just a single phrase or word in a thread, especially when I was new to the site. Just seeing "wankbadger" the first time set me off and had my dc asking me what was so funny.

Purplehonesty · 03/11/2014 13:11

A few times I have laughed til I cried . Never cried from sadness tho I don't think
Or been sick in my mouth/peed

ChocolateBubbleBarsmakemefat · 03/11/2014 13:12

Yes, yesterdays fart thread had me laughing out loud - i refuse to grow up just because my age shows I should be a grown up! Halloween Grin

TSSparklerDNCOP · 03/11/2014 13:12

The first thread I ever read on here was about a woman who had bathed with a Lush glitter bomb and had vajazzled her pubes. I was laughing out loud and had tears rolling. Lots of the Classics do that, last one was the one before Indyref.

There are a couple of posters who write often of the loss of their children. Their threads often move me to tears.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 03/11/2014 13:14

Just want to post my usual comment that I put when these threads happen...

POM BEARS WAS NEVER FUNNY

As you were.

HighwayDragon · 03/11/2014 13:14

I cry a lot, the ones that spring to mind are the wave of light, mrsdv's Billie and poorly children.

a few have made me actually lol

coraltoes · 03/11/2014 13:16

The lady who bleached her bum with toothpaste recently had me laughing it out loud. Just repeatedly thinking WHAT the fuck!!!

BertieBotts · 03/11/2014 13:16

I cried on some of my own threads when asking for advice about something sensitive before, especially when people were nice. Occasionally on others' threads if something has hit home but not usually.

Laughing out loud - many many times. Crying from laughter a few times too.

catseyes10 · 03/11/2014 13:17

Yes, I have cried with laughter at threads, but never with sadness.

cherrybombxo · 03/11/2014 13:18

Yes, I have really laughed until I felt like my ribs were breaking at some threads on here. Never cried though.

PrivatePike YES, I laughed for days about "I'm so sorry, Alan"! I remember trying to explain it to DP, who was very Hmm

DishwasherDogs · 03/11/2014 13:21

Take me, I never found that funny either, or (waits to be kicked off MN) the lemon drizzle thread.

BertieBotts · 03/11/2014 13:21

Pom bear made me cry with laughter. I don't know why it was so hilarious at the time, it just was. I tried to read some of it to DH and couldn't get any breath out. But the poo/fart ones never get me. Not my sense of humour.

Not on MN but when a friend's toddler was dying and she asked if anyone had a candle handy they could light it and my entire facebook feed filled up slowly with hundreds of photographs of candles that people had lit, that moved me to tears, even the thought of it now. So I can see the impact of some of those long running threads.

maras2 · 03/11/2014 13:22

I laughed out loud when reading about The Old Korean Lady. I cried when reading posts from Cupoftea and Giraffes.

WorraLiberty · 03/11/2014 13:23

I've laughed out loud at a few threads but never cried

I'm always a bit sceptical when posters say, "I'm in floods of tears" or "I'm literally sobbing over this news story".

Some things bring a tear to my eye or give me a lump in my throat, but I've never been in floods or sobbed over something I've read on the internet.

slithytove · 03/11/2014 13:24

Another one who chortled at "sorry Alan"

Really think posters should be linking to these laugh out loud threads so they are all here to test the theory.

Worra - I have, always over the same thing, always because it takes me back to the place I was in when I lost dd. I try to avoid them but it's not always possible.

Since losing dd and having rainbow babies, any story of child loss or suffering really gets to me to the extent that I can't prevent tears.

Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin · 03/11/2014 13:25

No, never ever laughed out loud, laughed until cried, spat my coffee all over my keyboard...

I'm sure I remember reading that laughing is a social tool and that it's actually quite hard to laugh in a room by yourself so I just assume people are exaggerating.

There have been some posts which have made my stomach churn though - the most recent one was the spilt lemonade/DP kicking off one. Anything to do with people being mistreated makes me feel helpless/nervous.

There have been some very sad threads which have touched me greatly, but I've not cried. I don't cry in RL either (if I do it is generally to do with kindness).

ChestyCoffin · 03/11/2014 13:26

I re read EMIN thread about the tiny drug addicted baby again (in classics) last night. I cried....again Blush

nikki1978 · 03/11/2014 13:27

I have laughed out loud at a few threads. They are probably in classics but tend to be stuff like funny stuff kids have said or embarrassing/awful wedding tales where there are 100's of posts with different stories. Generally I do feel a bit Hmm when people say they are pissing themselves over something mildly amusing but we all have different senses of humour I guess. Had tears in eyes over tragic stories but never cried.

madsadbad · 03/11/2014 13:29

Don't think I have ever cried over another thread, but have felt very sad.

Just this morning something made me actually laugh out loud, it said something like don't worry about immigrants taking over the country worry about the statues, so I had a real life short snort at that.

WorraLiberty · 03/11/2014 13:29

slithy I can understand that Thanks
