Do people really cry/laugh out loud, over threads?

Frogme · 03/11/2014 12:29

I find some threads shocking, very sad, amusing and even really funny, but I don't do any of the above.

AIBU for not reacting as extremely as some people appear to do?
AIBU in thinking people exagerate when saying these things?

I've laughed for sure, but not cried

Shodan · 03/11/2014 14:33

God, I've done proper hiccupping, snorting, wheezing, tears-from-the-eyes laughing at some threads on here- and I can't tell you a single one now!

I've never cried properly, but definitely had a lump in the throat at a few.

Mind you, I'm rather emotional anyway- I've cried at adverts, even. Blush

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 03/11/2014 14:34

I have laughed when I read something unexpected or just surprising - I don't tend to laugh all the way through a thread though.

I wept buckets over the one about the woman who was fostering a tiny baby who was born drug-addicted, I've cried along with some of the life-limiting illness ones too...

Mrsjayy · 03/11/2014 14:35

The daft accident thread I had to close because I was laughing so much. Penis beaker meh it was slightly amusing

ReluctantCamper · 03/11/2014 14:35

Yy chesty, I defy anyone to read drug dependent baby in classics and not weep! especially when you realise the truth about emin. Simultaneously lovely and so sad.

BertieBotts · 03/11/2014 14:36

I'm sniggering (out loud) at this thread. I often laugh in an empty room, I must be deranged Confused Blush I'm actually less likely to laugh when in a room full of people because it's embarrassing.

VileStatistyx · 03/11/2014 14:36

I've never cried at a thread but sometimes I will laugh, or do that snort laugh thing Grin

Like you would if you were watching something funny on the TV, or read something funny in a book. Sometimes you chuckle.

Behoove · 03/11/2014 14:39

I've definitely snorted and sniggered and teared up, have occasionally curled my lip (judgy), never actually cried though or clutched my pearls.

Only occasionally. Last night's fart thread had me in pieces, but my usual level of mirth is a wee smile to myself.

I laugh out loud all the time, I have even in real life snorted tea several times from laughing.

I've cried too, not as often but I have done.

NickiFury · 03/11/2014 14:49

I do laugh occasionally but probably not the same threads as others do for example I found Penis Beaker and the Yoni threads deeply unfunny bordering on cringe worthy.

NickiFury · 03/11/2014 14:49

Oh yes. I have definitely cried over some too.

o0 · 03/11/2014 14:51

I've laughed until I've cried a lot on here. MNetters are funny. But in RL I laugh a lot so it's no surprise MN gets me laughing too. I'm very easy to please humour wise.

I've had a tear in my eye occasionally but never actually cried from sadness about a thread.

Innermagic · 03/11/2014 14:51

Wanking jacket made me laugh out loud Grin

TalkinPeace · 03/11/2014 15:02

In terms of laughing so much I had to read the thread to my kids and they laughed too ....

the penguin bollards on the Isle of Wight

the uber destructive toddlers

the limited number of children to the wedding / bridezilla

Tweasels · 03/11/2014 15:05

I've definitely laughed out loud a few times. It's not specific threads (I also didn't find penis beaker or yoni funny) it's more the odd comment. One of favourites was a thread where a poster thought her friend was having sex with horses. The one liners were so funny. I think Worra might have been on that thread too if I remember rightly.

I've cried lots too. All the threads where people have lost children Flowers

BuckskinnedAstronaut · 03/11/2014 15:25

I've cried over threads where children have died, and over EMIN's thread. Laughter -- occasionally I snort. There have been threads where I've been laughing too much to be able to read the posts out loud, but that's mostly silent shaking and it's been a couple of years since it last happened.

Riverland · 03/11/2014 15:29

Doing T. rex in asda has become a family joke! As has the name Balonz.

Aridane · 03/11/2014 15:33

OP - I'm with you on this one. When looking at threads that have had other people laughing so much they spit coffee over the keyboard etc, I haven't really found them funny (eg Pom Bear)- but then maybe my expectations were raised to much.

Mind you, I did have a mild giggle (aloud!) over one thread in classics where the poor lady trying to post a link to an M&S dress spent two pages of posting trying unsuccessfully to post the link. Still makes me smile thinking of that thread.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 03/11/2014 15:48

I have laughed over a few threads.

The phrase "Tin plated fanny" had me and a friend sniggering like schoolgirls.

ShatnersKaBOOM · 03/11/2014 15:55

'I'm so sorry Alan' was my mum Grin

emotionsecho · 03/11/2014 15:56

I have both laughed and cried at some MN threads.

Some MNers are very witty and have a very amusing turn of phrase which they drop into a thread.

I don't tend to post on a particular thread whether I am laughing or crying though, find some of the 'a bit of wee just came out' comments rather cringe-worthy, equally I'm not sure of the benefit to an OP of a sad thread to say 'I'm sobbing my heart out here'.

Everyone's threshold for humour or sadness is different.
