To be a bit dismayed if 4 million women visit this site, why are there so few posts on the feminism threads?

Ok so I know there are lots of lurkers but if there are really millions of women who go on MN, why are so many threads on the feminism section consisting of so few women? It doesn't make sense to me as so many issues that
women post about on many different topics are actually feminist issues when it comes down to it...

Oh I know Pacific, FWR is/was a poorer place for her absence, in a few ways imho.

Nojacketrequired · 31/10/2014 08:56

Dittany was before my time. What did she do and why did she leave?

southeastastra · 31/10/2014 08:57

i was just thinking how many more feminism threads there are presently, more than in the past.

Oh it all got a bit unpleasant no, various allegations of bullying/threatening other women 'off board' and it all blew up one evening here. A bit gob-smacking really.

PacificWerewolf · 31/10/2014 09:03

Ooooh, what is a 'spotless Nigel'? I think I want one Grin

I think many posters on this thread would enjoy The Pub - now known as The Bluestocking, I think.

dittany is a very articulate RadFem with great analytical powers who Took No Prisoners. IMO she was rarely wrong but many people (myself included) found it hard to be in the laser-glare of her analysis.
She got stalked and targeted by MRAs and had a really horrible time of it. She left under some controversy (I cannot remember the details). I know she still frequents the interweb, but not sure were.

I hate all the FB/other sites 'groups' if they are used to form a 'strategy of attack on MN' - urgh.
But then again I would say that - I am a strident FB Refuser Grin

Nancy66 · 31/10/2014 09:05

Same reason not many post in: politics or In the news. Same reason foreign stories make a single inside column in tabloid newspapers, same reason 10 million will tune into to Strictly and X Factor and 600,000 will watch a documentary about Rwanda.

It doesn't interest them.

socially · 31/10/2014 09:05

FWR isn't somewhere you go for a chat.

I stop in for a bit of a nosey sometimes and tbh it's terrifying.

I agree with PP who say that unless you subscribe to X view (and have completed your doctorate to show it) you are regarded as someone who needs to be forcibly "educated".

Not what I call relaxing or entertaining.

So, a number of responses from a lot of people. No interaction or debate from the OP.
Has your experiment come to a satisfactory conclusion, and why do you care about the question OP?
I like the FWR boards, have read them for years and occasionally posted. But for a lot of people, the boards are a club they don't want to be an active member of. Many of them are living their lives with a feminist perspective and many of the interactions on the wider boards show this.
There are a lot of voters who aren't members of the political party they support.

RedToothBrush · 31/10/2014 09:23

The term 'PIV' for starters. It makes me want to punch things. Then the rampant hypocritical sexism. Which of course there is an intellectual and moral excuse for. Then there's the over opinionated who aren't actually interested in a debate but prefer the sound of their own voices.

Its not worth the emotional investment you need to post there tbh.

OP, if there are 4 million women posting here and very few on the FWR boards, why do you think they are absent, why do you want them posting there and how to you think you are going to attract more posters?
Unless you think that women ouught to post on the MN FWR boards because it's good for them and that should be enough?

Bunbaker · 31/10/2014 09:36

Because (whispers) a lot of the threads don't actually interest me. (ducks)

RedToothBrush, agree wholeheartedly but what does PIV stand for Blush.

ILovePud · 31/10/2014 09:38

ok x posted with empire, I can work it out now Blush

slug · 31/10/2014 09:39

Mums net as a whole is feminist. You only have to browse the education, employment and relationship boards to see feminism in action. The FWR boards are just the intellectual wing of the overall ethos of the site

Venticoffeecup · 31/10/2014 09:42

I don't read or post there.

I used to call myself a feminist, but I've grown increasingly frustrated with the feminist movement to the point that I no longer want to be associated with it.

One of the many reasons I got frustrated with it is the assumption that the OP of this thread essentially made, that if you are a women you must be a feminist.

Venticoffeecup · 31/10/2014 09:44

ILovePud, my understanding is that PIV stands for Penis in Vagina.

Sometimes it is illuminating...other times it turns into theoretical masturbation.

DuelingFanjo · 31/10/2014 09:57

RE Dittany, I was very vocally against Dittany when I first came here but, heck, I owe her such a debt of gratitude because she really opened my eyes to a lot of stuff.

I was one of those people who completely didn't understand male privilege and did a lot of that 'not all men/you are just man hating' stuff.

I now understand you don't have to be a man hater to get that society/the world is set up to reward one sex above the other.

vichill · 31/10/2014 10:01

Bit too millie tant for me and the usual suspects DO swoop on anyone not deemed right on enough.
