To be a bit dismayed if 4 million women visit this site, why are there so few posts on the feminism threads?

Ok so I know there are lots of lurkers but if there are really millions of women who go on MN, why are so many threads on the feminism section consisting of so few women? It doesn't make sense to me as so many issues that
women post about on many different topics are actually feminist issues when it comes down to it...

No -I did not say purely MTF,

Where is that quote?

I have never seen FTM discussed on FWR. I have never seen someone say if men feel erased. Trans issues on FWR nearly always focus on MTF.

limitedperiodonly · 18/04/2015 21:39

Why would the RadFems kick you out of bed?

Perhaps they wouldn't lucycant. As a heterosexual female I haven't tried it, so I wouldn't know.

It was also an attempt at humour. Feeble, I know, but you know what feminists are like.

Women who object to militant transgender politics are routinely called RadFems, TERFs or narrow-minded lesbian bigots by aggressive transgender activists.

At the risk of being condescending I would suggest that many women don't realise that. They just want to live and let live and think everyone is as nice as them.

I realise not every transgender person wants to confront.

I deliberately used the word 'condescending' instead of 'patronising' in case it caused offence.

I have seen transmen being discussed on FWR but it was in the context of a poster not being able to find any transactivists that were FTM.

OutsSelf · 18/04/2015 21:41

You said that the FWR thought trans people were making stuff up and that the FWR think trans people are "men dressed as women". That's you describing trans PEOPLE in ftm terms. Your post makes them invisible

OrlandoWoolf · 18/04/2015 21:42

I said that many FWR posters still see trans people as men dressing up. In that context, it is because 99% of the discussion on trans people on FWR is about MTF.

Then I get accused of ignoring and wiping out transmen in that post. I think most FWR posters are probably fine with transmen as I suspect most men are.

But say something that could be misinterpreted and you get jumped on. By some posters.

OutsSelf · 18/04/2015 21:43

My hair is ace, thanks WhorGasm Grin

limitedperiodonly · 18/04/2015 21:43

Because the feminism threads are dour and humourless, and populated by the sort of (dour and humourless) women who make your heart sink when you realise you're sitting next to them at a dinner party.

Let's get back to the core issue.

They're all ugly with hairy armpits and wear flat shoes.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 18/04/2015 21:44

Oh, I see what this is now.

You claimed you don't post in FWR, now you think you know all about how I post.

I pointed out your sexism and you don't like it - but don't pretend it wasn't you who said these things in the first place. You acted as if all trans people are transwomen. They aren't.

JanineStHubbins · 18/04/2015 21:44

Their credentials are usually a second class degree in Women's Studies from a third rate university. Oh, and bad hair.

What a crappy post.

I don't post very much on FWR, but I lurk enough to know that posters there are no more or less friendly, no more or less robust and no more or less interesting than anywhere else on this site.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 18/04/2015 21:44

And at limited.

OrlandoWoolf · 18/04/2015 21:44

Yes, fuck me. You've got me. A simple slip and I must think like that. Confused

Bang to rights. You've got me. The fact that I know many transmen must mean that I don't give a shit about them. Well done you for picking me up on that. You are so clever.

I must apologise to all transmen out there.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 18/04/2015 21:47

Well ... actually, yes.

Slips do tend to be indicative of how people think.

It is also quite a common view. Our society is pretty strongly biased against transmen, if you want to know.

And yes, you owe them an apology.

MN deletes posts for misgendering. I'm not sure what they do for you posting as if a whole group of people don't exist, but you should really consider it seriously, instead of getting stroppy with me.

lucycant · 18/04/2015 21:47

This is why I rarely comment on FWR. Disagreement is fine. But point scoring is just tiresome.

OutsSelf · 18/04/2015 21:47

Well I sympathise with that feeling of getting jumped on by some posters. I know if I were to say that I think trans people have a really tough time and trans women face a really tough transitition but that those oppressions aren't entirely the same as I face as a wbw, I feel certain that some posters would be all over my case. [awaits deletion]

OrlandoWoolf · 18/04/2015 21:48

But point scoring is just tiresome

Indeed.

WhoreGasm · 18/04/2015 21:54

And the last few posts illustrate my observation about tedious point scoring, perfectly.

I assume it's one of the modules on the Women's Studies course?

Tedious Point Scoring 101

Relentless Hair Splitting (Intermediate)

Referencing Obscure Feminist Authors (Advanced)

OutsSelf · 18/04/2015 22:01

Fuck, whorgasm, I don't know, I must've missed those modules. Too busy plaiting my pubes, probably

limitedperiodonly · 18/04/2015 22:11

I wore these flat shoes today.

If only my sense of humour was so sparkling

To be a bit dismayed if 4 million women visit this site, why are there so few posts on the feminism threads?
FloraFox · 18/04/2015 22:17

I'm not sure why this is such a contentious topic. If you want to post on FWR do and if you don't, don't. If you want other posters to change the way they post to suit you, perhaps YABU.

lucycant · 18/04/2015 22:17

Whoregasm - Women's studies courses these days are very at odd with the feminism on MN. Why this idea that feminists on MN have all been on women's studies courses?

OutsSelf · 18/04/2015 22:19

I wonder how so many posters who claim to avoid the Fem boards still seem to know do much about the views, style, shit even the qualifications and hairstyle of the posters there?

OrlandoWoolf · 18/04/2015 22:19

Whoregasm - Women's studies courses these days are very at odd with the feminism on MN

Surely there's all kinds of feminism on MN. Not just one kind?

Orlando - Yes. But the dominant feminism on FWR is not that prostitution is empowering, or transwomen are women. Neither of which I agree with, but which are often the dominant views nowdays on Women's Studies Courses.
