AIBU unreasonable to wear purple anyway? Ridiculous christening invite...

So, I said I'd go to a friend's daughter's christening (just the service) a while a go. No problems there apart from the usual trying to get into Chruch school bollocks. Just picked up the invite to check I'd got the times right for tomorrow and noticed this little beauty. "Please don't wear dark colours, after all, it's not a funeral. Also, you many not wear pink, purple or ivory unless you are the parent, God parent or grandparent".

I already have a purple dress that I was planning to wear. Is this a thing now??? I've never even read a bridezeilla missive saying one may not wear a certain colour!

ChippingInLatteLover · 11/10/2014 22:20

Of for the love of god tiny fishes. Really, really?????????

Just wear what you want, the rest of the congregation will be surely?

fourcorneredcircle · 11/10/2014 22:21

Really. I'd copy you in to the matching FB event invite but it would out me...

I would either go and wear what the hell I liked or give it a miss. Ridiculous!

sparrowno1 · 11/10/2014 22:22

Go with purple hair and look innocent.

squoosh · 11/10/2014 22:22

I suggest you base your christening outfit on one of these chaps.

sleepyhead · 11/10/2014 22:23

Oh dear. I think I'd find that I'd come down with something terribly infectious a couple of days before and have to cry off. How sad.

I really want to gate crash.

puntasticusername · 11/10/2014 22:24

That is brilliant Grin

Wear white, and drive them all mad trying to work out if you're actually wearing ivory IN DEFIANCE OF THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Hassled · 11/10/2014 22:24

Just become a godparent. It's probably the easiest solution. You'll have to renounce Satan, but that's straightforward enough.

fizzymittens · 11/10/2014 22:24

Don't bother going. It sounds like it will be terrible!

wanttosqueezeyou · 11/10/2014 22:24

NO! This is some sort of MN trickery, I don't believe you... You're going to have to show us the invite Wink

MulberryPeony · 11/10/2014 22:25

Dress codes for Christenings???

fourcorneredcircle · 11/10/2014 22:26

So, so many wonderful suggestions. Now I have a new dilemma. How can I choose between ruffles, purple hair and passive aggressive white?! I'm very glad to hear that's it's not just me who things this is ridiculous.

Def wear white! Or lilac! How about mauve? Cerise? Coral? Apricot?

Fucking ridiculous stipulations.

bodhranbae · 11/10/2014 22:28

Go in a frogman's wetsuit and flippers.
Say it wasn't on the forbidden list so you'd thought it would be ok.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 11/10/2014 22:28

I just wouldn't go on the grounds that no one I would want to be friends with would say anything close to that Grin

Smartiepants79 · 11/10/2014 22:28

I've never heard of anything so precious. So they've basically limited the guests to yellow, orange, pale blue and green?
Wear what you please.
This makes my blood boil and I've not even been invited.

wanttosqueezeyou · 11/10/2014 22:29

And "all his works" hassled which could be trickier

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/10/2014 22:29

What a rude invitation. They can't dictate what colors people wear. Supposing someone only has black and do not have the funds to buy anymore clothes and don't wear pink purple or ivory.
If it were me I'd purposely turn in up in my bright pink dress. To piss them off . I mean what can they do, get the pink purple black or Ivory clothes police to arrest you. Remove you from the christening. To be honest that wouldn't be a bad thing anyway. They sound like a pair of bleeeedin ejits.
Thank God I'm not on the guest list.
