AIBU unreasonable to wear purple anyway? Ridiculous christening invite...

So, I said I'd go to a friend's daughter's christening (just the service) a while a go. No problems there apart from the usual trying to get into Chruch school bollocks. Just picked up the invite to check I'd got the times right for tomorrow and noticed this little beauty. "Please don't wear dark colours, after all, it's not a funeral. Also, you many not wear pink, purple or ivory unless you are the parent, God parent or grandparent".

I already have a purple dress that I was planning to wear. Is this a thing now??? I've never even read a bridezeilla missive saying one may not wear a certain colour!

Go with lime green

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 11/10/2014 23:32

On a serious note, I would send a reply saying something like "Dear X, I'm afraid we don't have anything suitable to wear that complies with your clothing restrictions, so I'm afraid we'll have to bow out. I hope the day goes well."

However, if I thought I could get hold of this dress by tomorrow I might have a different view...

Dress as Rarity from My Little pony :) (white and purple) They can't object to that, seeing as FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC....Wink

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 11/10/2014 23:36

Or just turn up in this which meets all her stipulations so must be perfectly acceptable.

littledrummergirl · 11/10/2014 23:44

High vis jacket and trousers Grin

QueenArseClangers · 11/10/2014 23:53

Now this get up would be perfect...

What if the Bishop turns up? He'd be wearing black AND purple.

dalekanium · 12/10/2014 00:07

I've got shed loads of hi viz if you wanna borrow

FreudiansSlipper · 12/10/2014 00:13

so you could wear red

I would not choose to wear an all red outfit but some red patent killer heel stilettos sound perfect to wear at this christening and a short little red dress (if you wear short dresses) I am sure will please the vicar

fabulous red shoes

Bogeyface · 12/10/2014 00:24

I'd wear blue pyjamas and and a shitty brown dressing gown.

No I wouldnt, I just wouldnt go. Who can be arsed with that? She wants photos and line ups which is just about acceptable at a wedding but not at a christening.

squoosh · 12/10/2014 00:32

Body paint and a few strategically placed sequins?

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 12/10/2014 00:39

Can you afford to get one of Didactylos' costumes for your DH while you wear the other? (Either way round is good)

BiscuitMillionaire · 12/10/2014 00:53

Or this.

Redglitter · 12/10/2014 01:03

Oh something like that would be like a red rag to a bull for me. I'd make a point of wearing one of the colours listed. what a cheek they have. I bet the guests will consist largely of people wearing one of the banned colours

SweetsForMySweet · 12/10/2014 01:04

Wear your wedding dress! It is bright, celebratory and you'll look gorgeous Grin

Bulbasaur · 12/10/2014 02:08

Wear it and insist that it's violet or lavender, not purple.

Honestly, I'd either ignore it, or just not go.

Though, I do find it hard to believe that the only dress you own is purple...

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 12/10/2014 04:29

How is your friend going to stop the rest of the congregation wearing those colours? At my church, lots of the older congregation wear purple, would they all be made to leave?

Seriously, this is mad. A christening takes place in a public church service, where the majority of people in the church will be nothing to do with the christening party. They will, however, be delighted to welcome a new baby into the church.

FamiliesShareGerms · 12/10/2014 05:05

This is bonkers

And if it's a CofE service, even if it is a separate service rather than part of the Sunday worship, any member of the public is entitled to attend regardless of what they are wearing

JapaneseMargaret · 12/10/2014 06:26

I would absolutely go the passive aggressive route, and sadly decline on the basis of having no clothes that fit the colour stipulation.

Maybe make her reflect on how much of a feckin eejit she is, and get out of going.

Winwin.
