Jim Sillars has had death threats & eggs thrown at him, a man in his 70's and just carry's on.

Murphy had been baiting folk to do something.

I don't really agree with all the heckling but folk have a right to express how pissed off they are, personally I would just ignore him.

No need for the eggs, though it used to be a political right of passage.

Sorry - a director of endsleigh at the same time as his presidency.

weatherall · 29/08/2014 19:29

Chelsy if you are not tying to influence anyone then why are you one of the most prolific posters on every mn independence thread making arguments designed to persuade undecideds to vote no?

deeedeee · 29/08/2014 19:33

I don't condone the idiocy of the egg throwing shouting numpties. But I'm cynical enough to see the that everyday these kind of beneficial campaigning stories are making news headlines. "Alistair darling expenses shame" " mob causes jim Murphy to suspend tour" . Surely you don't need to have watched " in the thick of it " to not really take any of these blatantly spun news articles too seriously.

So yes, it's crap to rent out a second home you are claiming expenses on. And it's crap to deny someone their right if free speech.

But seriously, despair of your country? Mob mentality? No. A bunch of idiots and a spin doctor or two? Yes

frankie80 · 29/08/2014 19:57

I want to support BT but I want to do so anonymously due to all this nastiness. Is it even possible to do so anonymously? Any volunteer roles that are 'safe' to do?

:(

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/08/2014 20:02

TBH if you are a wuss like me then your best options are chatting to people on internet forums, and donating to help the various grassroots campaigns get out there.

TBH though I would think you would be fine. There isn't that much nastiness really, and I very much doubt you would be expected to canvass/leaflet etc on your own.

JimMurphysHump · 29/08/2014 20:06

I've been out door knocking and leafletting and whatever else and only had 2 folk be nasty to me so far. And even then, neither were all that bad, just rude.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/08/2014 20:07

Frankie80 I know BT do a lot of telephone canvassing which would be pretty anonymous - have a look at the website.

I'm feeling similar, I want to do something but tbh, I feel kind of intimidated too

FannyFifer · 29/08/2014 20:20

Frankie if you are voting No contact your local Better Together team, even leafleting your area would help, no one will abuse you, honestly don't believe the press stirring things up.

The worst I've had is kids shouting vote No and some old lad ripping a leaflet up. I just smile & say thanks for your time.

WildThong · 29/08/2014 20:21

Yes really.
Honestly, I can't be bothered trawling for the links to back it up.
Individual arseholes both sides, organised mobs one side.

FannyFifer · 29/08/2014 20:23

Only cos Better Together don't have mobs. Wink

OP posts:
WildThong · 29/08/2014 20:33

No we've got secret gatherings Wink

deeedeee · 29/08/2014 20:37

Wild thong, if you're referring to the Facebook screen shot of yes campaigners arranging to meet up to protest at Jim Murphy, then I counter with the screen shot of better together campaigners saying they hope women voters don't get round to deciding what to vote by September. It's campaign dynamite either side. Don't fall for it. Decide what you want, vote what you want, but don't fall for the whole demonisation of the other side thing!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/08/2014 20:41

Honestly, I can't be bothered trawling for the links to back it up

No trawling for links, just typed, "attacks on yes supporters" into google...

deeedeee · 29/08/2014 20:43

Frankie and stat, if you feel strongly then just do it. We're not talking about Syria or Gaza! I think if you think about it logically you are likely to be fine!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/08/2014 20:44

And Statistically could do bra interventions too...

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/08/2014 20:45

Deeedeee she was joking because someone on an earlier thread accused all the no voters on these threads of not being regular posters and of coming from from a secret group.

JimMurphysHump · 29/08/2014 20:45

What's heartening, actually, is the number of folk voting No who have said they're right on board with helping build a decent nation in the event of a Yes vote. The vast vast majority of us would like to see our country be a better place.

deeedeee · 29/08/2014 20:50

Oh apologies if I missed the joke! Sorry :-)

Incidentally DH says in his office , including management, is mainly yes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/08/2014 20:51

haha "hello, how are you voting...can I change your mind...no, ok how about I fix your bra!"

OOAOML · 29/08/2014 21:25

Frankie I campaign on the No side, there is a range of stuff and yes you don't have to get face to face with people if you don't want to (although it really isn't that bad - I know tensions get high on the internet, and aggression gets a lot of news coverage, but most of us on both sides are just normal people talking to other normal people).

Feel free to PM me if you want to know more about it.

OOAOML · 29/08/2014 21:28

someone on an earlier thread accused all the no voters on these threads of not being regular posters and of coming from from a secret group.

Frankly at the moment what with children, work and trying to make a difference to my country's future Wink I don't have a lot of time for anything except the latest referendum thread Smile

FannyFifer · 29/08/2014 21:41

Statistically please come to my hoose & sort my boobs oot.
