Round 2 folks, ding ding!

OP posts:

As far as I'm aware though OldLady, mumsnet isn't putting itself about as an election campaign body, election monitor and presenting itself as an authentic and informed source on changing the history of Scotland.

But the tone in which something is written does not make wrong/of no value. He writes for a wide audience, not all of us enjoy sourcing and reading data tables on our own. OK, some No voters (and Yes?) on this thread don't like Wings, and that is their prerogative, but the fact is he reaches hundreds of thousands of people, and much as some hate him, he is a pretty powerful participant in this election.

ffallada · 28/08/2014 15:10

At the risk of being shouted at I thought I would share a facebook post from the Borders No campaign.

I think it backs up the better together opinion of women quite well - has anyone seen the advert they released last night - I'll try and find a link.....

Have a wee look at this

ChelsyHandy · 28/08/2014 15:15

Mmmn, if you think that's acceptable, its going to be quite a big step up for Scottish independence politicians to any international stage.

WildThong · 28/08/2014 15:17

Oh, pleeze, not the video again

If I was a conspiracy theorist I would be Hmm at the amount of times it has been uploaded onto MN on different threads since yesterday Wink

squoosh · 28/08/2014 15:17

The alternate cereal woman video has been posted many times already hasn't it?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2014 15:18

The No side astroturfing?

grovel · 28/08/2014 15:18

The woman in the ad has got a very noisy floor.

grovel · 28/08/2014 15:20

In iScotland she'd be able to afford a carpet or the government would give her one.

ffallada · 28/08/2014 15:21

oh - sorry I didn't realise it had been uploaded already. Thanks for taking it so well Hmm

This thread moves quite fast and I have other things to do with my day than sit on mumsnet so I had not realised.

Apologies. I'll just leave you all to it then

OOAOML · 28/08/2014 15:21

Vote No Borders isn't officially linked to the BT campaign. I'm not on their FB page, so not sure if that's their standard view, but I do read a lot on the Better Together page, have been to Better Together events for women, and am on a few other pages not linked to the campaign (clearly they wouldn't be grassroots enough for the yes people on here though) and there are a lot of women very active in sharing their opinions, and the only negative opinions I've seen directed to women's opinions have been from Yes people.

Women are very active in this on both sides, which is great.

That said, I thought the Better Together advert wasn't great, and it was ridiculously over-acted. Then again, I don't generally expect a high standard in election broadcasts, and I'm very much in the 'already made my mind up' camp.

IrnBruTheNoo · 28/08/2014 15:22

Too right this thread is moving fast. I've never been so fixated in my life on a thread on a forum!

ffallada · 28/08/2014 15:23

(one might also say that if the yes campaign had made such a HUGE mistake funding this video that people would be keener on discussing why they still believed that they were supporting a campaign that doesn't support them)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2014 15:23

Vote No Borders isn't officially linked to the BT campaign.

Other than the fact that it is a registered participant on the No side.

OOAOML · 28/08/2014 15:25

Well Wings is registered on the yes side. I think we'd all agreed that there were people on both sides that were not quite what we would wish for.

squoosh · 28/08/2014 15:26

There are crazies on both sides, that much is true.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2014 15:26

I think that the problem with the No campaign is because it is top down it has very little flexibility, and also has far less grassroots activism. Whereas the official Yes campaign is actually getting pretty dwarfed by all of the "unofficial" campaigns - National Collective, Women for Indy, Generation Yeas, Wings ...

cozietoesie · 28/08/2014 15:27

There's much talk of self-determination and decision-making powers here. Might I query what willl happen if the Northern and Western Isles (Shetland in particular) decide to secede from any new Scotland in the event of a Yes vote? (Taking their oil rights with them.) They're already talking about it and I've seen nothing substantive from the main parties on what their attitude would be.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2014 15:27

Indeed. Its just there is an awful lot of them on the No side.

If Shetland votes for independence then of course they should have it.

Sallyingforth · 28/08/2014 15:34

The Shetlands have already requested their own referendum to decide on their future. It was stamped on firmly by the SNP.

Independence is all right for some, but not for others!

prettybird · 28/08/2014 15:37

Cozietosie - even if Shetland were to gain its independence it would be an enclave and as such, the oil would still be outwith its waters.

But Shetland did have the sense to set up an oil fund of sorts! Grin (Love the fact that when I went there on business, the roads were all in fantastic nick and even small villages had swimming pools),

IrnBruTheNoo · 28/08/2014 15:37

I think Shetland should have a referendum if that's what they want. I would think they would be entitled to all that oil too.

grovel · 28/08/2014 15:40

They'd have a Lib Dem government.
