To be absolutely steaming about having a free copy of the Sun delivered by Royal Mail?

I know I am not BU. I am going to post it back to Sun HQ in an unstamped envelope ( will probably tear it into pieces before I do). Who will join me?

My local shop often has promotions offering you a free paper, usually DM if you buy something. I always politely refuse - as I do not want to read it - that's my choice.

I also want to be able to opt of this out as a of sheer bloody point of principle.

Like many on here I'm old enough to remember what happened after Hilsborough and I'm proud that the people of that great city haven't forgiven or forgotten. Good on the posties they've got my support.

The Sun is a vile, right wing, sexist rag which typifies everything which I find embarrassing about being British.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/06/2014 10:21

Facebook page, something like "pledge to send back your free s*n" (linked to a petition?) would be a good start, we could all share without having it linked to mn at all, so not outing ourselves?

Something in the text about not only liverpool being affected by hillsborough and the rest of the country stand by them and refuse to receive this shite in their homes?

Lanabelle · 09/06/2014 10:22

really? That gets you that upset?? find someone with an indoor cat and 'donate' it for a litter tray liner

MangoBiscuit · 09/06/2014 10:23

I don't like the Sun, I won't ever buy it, or read it online, or promote or encourage it. However, I'm failing to feel offended that RM will be posting a free copy through my door. I will use it as I do all other free papers, then recycle it. It gains the Sun nothing from this house.

Larimarbleu · 09/06/2014 10:24

What does it say about us as a nation, that so many people like to read this comic!

SelectAUserName · 09/06/2014 10:25

Im not Liverpudlian, have never lived there and dont support Liverpool yet I stand with anyone who fights against the injustice of Hillsborough. As should we all. The Sun was part of the cover up. I dont want that rag anywhere in my home. Ever.

This. 100%.

If I wanted this shitty work of sexist fiction in my house, I would buy it myself.

MostlyMama · 09/06/2014 10:25

Meh free newspaper, I will buy some vinegar in preparation for all the window cleaning I'll be doing with it.

LadyNexus · 09/06/2014 10:26

People don't 'read' the sun.

They look at the pretty pictures and fairy tales and manage to conveniently forget how damaging and poisonous it has been to the bereaved (and women) throughout the country.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/06/2014 10:26

It's fine for people to recycle if they are not offended, just stop telling other people they shouldn't be offended by something you choose not to understand.

ouryve · 09/06/2014 10:26

Isn't the ink toxic to small animals?

slartybartfast · 09/06/2014 10:28

the ink isnt toxic anymore

emsyj · 09/06/2014 10:33

Is there a poster to print OP or did you make your own? I will do the same. We are very near Liverpool but no longer have a Liverpool postcode (we used to, it changed when I was at school) so apparently according to the radio this morning it will be delivered here. We know our postie quite well so if I see him today I will ask him about it. I know the posties in Skelmersdale are threatening to strike if told to deliver there as they're not on the 'no delivery' list, but don't know about here.

I will be utterly enraged if it comes through my letterbox. I will join you in returning in unstamped envelope - although hopefully it won't be delivered if I put the poster out front.

Lucyccfc · 09/06/2014 10:33

I already have a note up in my window that states 'No Sun Newspaper - Justice for the 96'.

I don't live in Liverpool, but am a football fan and was and am still outraged by the lies told by the Sun newspaper about the victims of Hillsborough. The worst thing is, that there are still some people out there who actually believe the crap that paper reported 25 years ago.

Those who think this is no big deal, should give your heads a bloody wobble. Imagine if your child, brother, father or sister had been accused of being drunk, causing violence and robbing from dead bodies, when there has been a complete cover up for 25 years, lies told, police changing statements etc.

The Sun newspaper will not be allowed in this house.

Address for those who want to send it back:

News International
1 Virginia St
Wapping
London
E98 1XY

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/06/2014 10:40

Looks like Skelmersdale, Southport and parts of the Wirral will be getting it as they don't have an L postcode:

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/mersey-postmen-refuse-join-suns-7235285

Good on the Skelmersdale post office workers, several victims were from the town. You have my full support.

gordyslovesheep · 09/06/2014 10:40

I have put a notice on my letter box asking no to receive it - I am from Liverpool but no longer live there

If the postal worker has to deliver it I will send it back to the scum with no stamp - I hate that paper with a passion

Guitargirl · 09/06/2014 10:40

Thank you Select for the address - mine will be going back.

gordyslovesheep · 09/06/2014 10:41

Shakes my step dad is a postie on the Wirral and has to deliver it - he lost his cousin at Hillsborough - he is not happy about it

SuburbanRhonda · 09/06/2014 10:43

select, will it be delivered, though, if the address isn't a Freepost one and there is no stamp on it?

Won't the post room at News International simply not pay the fee?

Just want to make sure I don't waste even an envelope sending it back.

Guitargirl · 09/06/2014 10:44

Any idea how we can show support for the posties being made to deliver? It's at times like this I wish I wasn't such a social media refusenik...

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2014 10:44

Have done fb page - pledge to send back ( as suggested) found another address but don't suppose it matters. Hope it is working OK - will try and find out how to do a proper link

OP posts:
ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/06/2014 10:44

gordy sorry to hear that, I can't believe they are making him do this, what an insult.

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2014 10:45

Suburban - recycle an envelope you've received! Prob won't pay the fee but it's the gesture that counts!

OP posts:
Chipstick10 · 09/06/2014 10:47

I read the sun and buy it everyday I would be delighted to receive a free copy

TheFairyCaravan · 09/06/2014 10:49

I don't want it.

The people who are feel sorry for are the postmen and women. Their bags are going to be so much heavier with all that shite in it!

I wonder how much Royal Mail are being paid to do this?
