To be absolutely steaming about having a free copy of the Sun delivered by Royal Mail?

I know I am not BU. I am going to post it back to Sun HQ in an unstamped envelope ( will probably tear it into pieces before I do). Who will join me?

April - read the link Bourdic posted earlier, then you will see this is about a lot more than "just a newspaper"

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/06/2014 09:54

aprilanne over nothing? Biscuit

Guitargirl · 09/06/2014 09:55

If anyone finds any formal way of registering protest at this - petition or whatever - please can you post links?

MerryMarigold · 09/06/2014 09:55

There's plenty of rubbish I disagree with coming through my door all the time. It's recycled or composted. If I got upset at every single one, I'd go bananas.

There's plenty of rubbish I'm forced to look at on poster advertising. I don't really understand why this is so much worse. And no, I have never bought a copy of the Sun in my life, I disagree with it so much. But why is this worse than a poster campaign or TV campaign (that comes right into your living room).

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 09:56

I can't find anything about a petition or an opt out.

slartybartfast · 09/06/2014 09:56

yabu
donate to pet shop, they generlaly ask for newspapers.

my dh will be pleased, we can't afford a daily paper.

slartybartfast · 09/06/2014 09:57

now you might have a point if it was the Mail being delivered.

Andrewofgg · 09/06/2014 09:58

Hillsborough is not the whole reason why many in Liverpool hate the Sun and indeed The Times. It's also Wapping.

Just remember that if Murdoch and Eddie Shah had not broken the print Unions the Guardian would have closed and the Independent would never have opened.

Having said which I will be transferring my copy direct from doormat to recycling bin!

LadyNexus · 09/06/2014 09:59

Eugh that vile rag better not come anywhere near my house.

I'll wipe my arse on it and post it back.

HenI5 · 09/06/2014 10:00

The Sun always offended me so I never had one in the house.
I used to have an L postcode until sorting offices were rejigged but that was a long time ago and before a housemove. Not all LFC fans live in the area nor all Hillsborough bereaved as Sparkling said.

If they send a copy here it'll be sent back to their head office, no stamp.

Thewoolybackswife (love the name) that's awful. I never knew that about the bills.

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2014 10:01

April - do you really think the Sun is ' just a newspaper' .It's not a newspaper in any meaningful sense of the word but much more importantly, how could anyone not be moved by the effect on the bereaved relatives of Hillsborough of the Sun's coverage and the contribution that coverage made to the treatment of the victims and their families over more than two decades. The Hillsborough families and their fight for justice represent a moving and inspirational example to all of us - my little protest, as little as it is, is meant to be a homage to their example and the respect I feel for them.

As for shops in Liverpool not stocking it that the personal choice of the trader or the result of threats if they do?

And as for the RM people there blocking it: come on now. Where does that end? It's their job to deliver the post, not to decide whether it's all right for us to see it.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 09/06/2014 10:02

YANBU I don't want that shite posted through my door, partly because we're a red household partly because we're not lovers of the scum in general. We're over the river from Liverpool so don't know if we'll get it, hopefully not.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/06/2014 10:04

I suggest the people say people are making a fuss over nothing and being dramatic actually read up on why there is such disgust for the Sun and what they printed about the Liverpool football fans at the time. I am not going to re-post them here as they will be trigger/upsetting but just Google the words 'hate the Sun' and you'll find plenty of material.
That's fine for you not to mind getting it but it is offensive to read that other people - who could well have lost relatives in the tragedy - are being labelled precious and dramatic Hmm

slartybartfast · 09/06/2014 10:06

it is a pretty popular paper. tbh. the nation's favourite. that or the mail.

Larimarbleu · 09/06/2014 10:07

I admire the Liverpudlians for sticking to their guns and refusing to buy the Sun.
The way they reported the Hillsborough incident was disgusting and should never be forgotten.
My in-laws used to read the Sun (I'm ashamed to say), and I will never forget seeing the front page, when I was visiting them, and being shocked at the close-up graphic pictures of the victims faces. Those images will haunt me forever, so God onlyknows what's it must have done to the victims' families...
I have never and will never buy the Sun...
It's a cheap newspaper anyway.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/06/2014 10:07

Someone want to create a petition? Facebook protest page?

I would, but I'm in a non-delivered area anyway (wales), so it not really "my" protest.

I'll happily sign though, and know a lot of people who will too.

Guitargirl · 09/06/2014 10:11

It's never 'just a newspaper' though is it? No matter what paper it is.

I have heard people quote verbatim things that they have read in print. The print aspect of it gives it a legitimacy which lots of people will take for 'truth', whatever that means. Even people I have thought were quite clued up - DP I am looking at you - have read bits of crap back to me from a newspaper as if a journalist has written about it then it must be fact, not to be questioned.

And every paper is guilty of it. Because they are run by human beings who all have perspectives which are reflected in the editorial position. But, the actions of that particular paper following the Hillsborough tragedy were shocking in a way that spoke volumes about the sheer arrogance of those in editorial control and the individual journalists. How they can look themselves in the mirror as so-called media 'professionals' is beyond me. Some people feel strongly enough to have made an informed decision not to purchase or support that publication in any way. And now, apparently, I am to receive it through my letterbox. As is every other person in the country!?! Unsolicited crap. And yes, I also receive double-glazing leaflets but I can't bring myself to get so bloody worked up about those.

AND I don't particularly want my children being exposed in my own home to that rubbish: page three or no page three.

AnnaLegovah · 09/06/2014 10:15

Im not Liverpudlian, have never lived there and dont support Liverpool yet I stand with anyone who fights against the injustice of Hillsborough. As should we all. The Sun was part of the cover up. I dont want that rag anywhere in my home. Ever.

And dont get me started on page 3. Other posters are more eloquent on that topic than I am but I feel its hugely sexist towards women and I dont want it near me or my daughter.

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2014 10:16

Any advice on getting more publicity - I know the delivery can't and won't be stopped but a send it back unstamped campaign might be good - what do I do?

I have No More Page 3 on fb and this (not having page 3 in the freebie) is helping their argument that it shouldn't be in a daily newspaper .
I didn't know that about the Liverpool posties, good for them, that's great.
