To be absolutely steaming about having a free copy of the Sun delivered by Royal Mail?

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2014 09:10

I know I am not BU. I am going to post it back to Sun HQ in an unstamped envelope ( will probably tear it into pieces before I do). Who will join me?

Oh I understood that Select. My point was more to back up what you'd said and to dismiss the idea that we should focus our attention on more important things or indeed 'use that hateful energy and turn it into something more positive' as it was originally termed.

I think using the word 'hatred' is hugely oversimplifying it, and really quite dismissive about what the campaign for Hillsborough has actually achieved and shown up in the process.

IceBeing · 10/06/2014 15:27

I will be keeping my copy of the sun....I have been long planning an experiment to demonstrate what fraction of it is factually accurate and couldn't work out how to do that without buying the excrement.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 10/06/2014 16:34

Do report back on your results Ice.

Hateful rag. I wonder why they made the decision not to put page 3 in?

I will send mine back.

Jux · 10/06/2014 19:03

Perhaps the RM said they wouldn't do it if page 3 was in - imagine the hullaballoo of the 'chattering classes' at pictures of half naked girls were shoved through their letterboxes. Children in the house and all that.

TSSDNCOP · 10/06/2014 19:43

Got nothing to do with children.

I don't want soft porn shoved uninvited through my door.

TucsonGirl · 10/06/2014 20:02

"On your logic Nancy, perhaps the Royal Mail could mailshot the entire country for the BNP, anti-abortion organisations, fur coats shops, or other topics that people may be passionately against, just as long as the RM doesn't go under, who gives a shit?"
Peopple can be passionately against anything they want, but it doesn't give them the right to dictate what RM can and can't deliver. Why on earth shouldn't fur coat shops be allowed to mailshop? Not that it would be viable to do so, but are you seriously suggesting that it shouldn't be allowed?

TSSDNCOP · 10/06/2014 20:32

The RM can charge any of their clients anything they like for delivery of mail shots.

But they should also factor into that arrangement that the people they deliver to may not actually want to receive said item and will as a consequence send it right back.

Which is what I shall be doing with mine.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 10/06/2014 21:38

Are you seriously suggesting that members of PETA have no right to stop the delivery of fur coat shop advertising material through their door just because the RM wants to make money?
That they should 'get over it' 'put it in the bin' 'meh' 'whatever' 'why the drama'. Or even your 'leftier than thou' comment earlier. Nice new low there.
I think it is fair to say there's nothing we'll agree on on this subject don't you?

Sirzy · 11/06/2014 08:20

Skelmersdale posties have been told they won't be expected to deliver it. St Helens posties have now also said they will refuse to deliver it

FieldRose · 11/06/2014 08:28

After a bit of to'ing and fro'ing, RM are temporarily enforcing a ban on unaddressed mail to our house this week and then removing it again after the sun mail out. So we shouldn't be getting it Grin

RedToothBrush · 11/06/2014 08:49

I am surprised that its an issue in St Helens as they have a WA (Warrington) post code.

MarshaBrady · 11/06/2014 09:08

RM can do this and anyone has a right to respond, there are lots of ways to say I don't want it and I don't like it. Although I wouldn't put up that sticker as it's still advertising the paper.

Then RM can decide if it's worth doing this with The Sun in the future. So Yanbu.

Andrewofgg · 11/06/2014 09:14

So the posties can censor the post and RM allows it?

Election manifestos? Adverts for a charity which some disapprove of? Has Mr Griffin or a BNP or UKIP councillor the right to have his post delivered?

Where does it end?

AnyaKnowIt · 11/06/2014 09:34

No, in a world where it seems everything has s price. It's good to see workers sticking to something they feel strongly about.

AnnaLegovah · 11/06/2014 09:35

Are you seriously comparing election manifestos to soft porn Andrew? Hmm Grin

fifi669 · 11/06/2014 10:26

I don't think it's soft porn! It's just a pair of boobs. You can't in one breath say you can get your boobs out in public to breastfeed as it's natural, nothing to be ashamed of etc and in the next say actually boobs should be hidden it's soft porn!

AnyaKnowIt · 11/06/2014 10:31

Do you really need the difference explaining?

JohnFarleysRuskin · 11/06/2014 10:34

Late to the thread!

So what's the plan? Send it back?

Oh don't worry about fifi, she likes to see women objectified. It makes her happy.

fifi669 · 11/06/2014 10:37

They're just boobs either way. It's about choice. Some choose to breastfeed publicly, some will sunbathe topless, some will get paid to have their photo taken. All willing women, all same outcome.

Mckayz · 11/06/2014 10:43

Fifi Breastfeeding is absolutely no way comparable with Page 3. I have read some shit on MN over my 7 years but that takes the piss.

fifi669 · 11/06/2014 10:51

Do you need to get your boobs out in public? No. You can retire to a quiet corner or an actual feeding room rather than sitting in the middle of the city centre. It's your choice. So there is no actual need.

There is no need to sunbathe topless. I assume you'd remove your family from the beach if someone chose to do so? As they are witnessing soft porn....

It's a lot of fuss over nothing. There's nothing erotic about page 3 at all. It's a woman topless smiling. No sexy poses. The narrative is always something bland about her studying at uni/supporting some football club etc

AnyaKnowIt · 11/06/2014 10:52

Oh, are you one of those goady fuckers fifi?

Bigglesfliesundone · 11/06/2014 10:53

We didn't get one, nor did any I know, so not nationwide.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 11/06/2014 10:54

I thought they said June 19th.

AnyaKnowIt · 11/06/2014 10:55

Anyway, there will be no page 3 and its not being delivered to certain areas.

So on some level the sun knows its wrong.
