I'm not trying to minimise the Sun's guilt, but just to say that it does not actually represent or embody the views it reported at the time. In fact it's retracted those views. Therefore it is not like BNP or anti abortion organisation who have very clear and controversial views.
Yes BUT there IS currently a public inquiry ongoing that is looking into what happened. Something that was obstructed because of the authorities and the influence of public opinion that was biased against Liverpool fans. Something that The Sun was instrumental in leading and encouraging.
TBH, in some respect, if the inquiry wasn't still on going I think your comments would hold more weight. But the problem here is that The Sun is buying public influence and support with this marketing stunt associating its self as a 'good guy' in the world of football coverage. Probably to distract from its wrong doings of the past, so everyone forgets just how immoral its coverage has been.
Thats why it is just so sensitive to me. It has implications for potentially influencing public opinion and its responses to the conclusions that the public enquiry may draw. At worst, it may influence the public enquiry itself. Its wrong. Now is the time that those voices who have admitted their wrongdoing has created a massive injustice, shut up and let those people tell their story without trying to influence it or the public in any way.
A couple of years down the line, then yes, maybe there would be less of an argument about the subject, but right now? No. Just no.
