Not an AIBU cos really the title says it all. At massive local pool with group of five girls aged 10/11. Luckily they were showering in different area, I was waiting at lockers for them to come back and get changed. Bloke in the shower, nonchalantly steps out of his trunks and made big show of rinsing them out. I did a double take, then the slow burn whilst my brain tried to process what i was seeing Shock Angry . I nabbed a passing lifeguard and said "look!!!!" He was (after getting dressed) frogmarched out and told if he came back in they'd get police involved. Creep. My group of girls saw nothing but that was more luck than anything. shudders

Even if he was scottish he may have spent some time in scandinavia/somewhere where it is the norm and just forgot that it isn't in the uk.

ashtrayheart · 10/05/2014 22:55

My 3yo would have gleefully shouted I can see that man's willy! I'm sure of it. She commented on my lack of willy when I was in the shower this morning Grin

peacegardens · 10/05/2014 22:56

I thought you were going to say the gym (everyone does it there) But yes, more odd in a public swimming pool

BigChocFrenzy · 10/05/2014 22:58

I hope I don't confuse my countries or I could get locked up if I show my chocolatey bits

I think it's actually irrelevant to say, 'Oh but public nudity is all legal and no-one bats an eyelid in X or Y country' - it is a fine piece of evidence to prove that, when public nudity isn't illegal, it doesn't cause any problems, and you can use it as evidence to campaign for a change in the law, but it wouldn't be accepted as a legal defence if you were prosecuted for it in a country where public nudity is illegal, as it is here.

There are plenty of things that are legal in other countries that aren't legal here - like gun ownership or hash cafés or polygamy - but all that means is that you can do,those things in the countries where it is legal - it doesn't mean it's OK to,use their laws as a rationale to argue that it is OK to open a hash cafe, with a gun tucked into your purse, and your sister-wives running the kitchen and waiting tables.

Yanbu. It was totally inappropriate. Glad he was escorted off the premises. Even if he were not British, he'd have noticed no one else was naked. I'm glad we don't do the whole naked spa thing in the UK, I don't really want to see all the intimate parts of other people. There's nothing wrong with that either!

Mybellyisaneasteregg · 10/05/2014 23:24

But if there are no private or same sex showers and you have a shower naked (whilst trying to be discreet) could you could be arrested for it? Confused

I'm guessing I am lucky as we have a range of shower options at our local pool (and at others I have been to before as far as I can remember) but if I was at the op's pool I would like a shower naked and it seems there are no options available (I would probably go and look for a shower where there was no one around and make it quick!)

cjelh · 10/05/2014 23:27

Must admit in these type of showers I just shower with costume on!!!!

grocklebox · 10/05/2014 23:28

Im not familiar with these types of communal showers (are theycommon? ) but I suppose Id expect people to be naked in a shower. Ive never had a shower when I was dressed.
But if its clearly abnormal to those used to such things then yanbu. Yabu to assume hes a pervert though.

Mybellyisaneasteregg · 10/05/2014 23:29

I must be unusual in thinking you can't have a proper shower with your costume still on Confused

How on earth do you get the chlorine off your body with your costume on? Confused

cjelh · 10/05/2014 23:29

In one of our local pools the showers are not in the changing rooms they are poolside so I wouldn't expect anyone to be naked. people just shampoo and wash with costume on.

tardisgirl68 · 10/05/2014 23:32

Well unless your cossy is made.from some sort of waterproof fabric, the water just soaks through and rinses the chlorine off that way!

Yes we have poolside showers which are communal for all and are on full display.

We also have showers inside the changing rooms which are separated for males/females. Some showers here are communal there but there are also some private shower cubicles.

We also have a family change room area.

Our pool sounds very well organised in terms of change/shower facilities :)

Mybellyisaneasteregg · 10/05/2014 23:35

It must just be me then, but I couldn't imagine putting soap on top of my costume and getting clean that way Confused

ravenAK · 10/05/2014 23:35

well, I don't know, actually. I didn't know it wasn't OK to shower naked in communal showers! It could just be lack of familiarity...

I'm used to gender-segregated showering areas where nakedness is the norm.

Sometimes I do dive in, but usually I don't bother with a post-swim shower. I'll be in scruffy clothes, it's a weekend/holiday thing, & so I'll cheerfully fester in the chlorine & have a nice private shower that evening.

If I found myself in a mixed shower I might quite easily assume that the rule was 'kit off, unless you're a bit shy about nudity, which is also OK', as it is in the women-only showers I'm accustomed to, rather than 'keep your bathers on, thanks'.

I'd probably have a glance round to see if anyone else had their bum out, before whipping my own costume off, but it honestly wouldn't seem outrageous to me if they did.

So I'd be socially inept if I did strip off, on the evidence of this thread; but not automatically an exhibitionist or pervert. Possibly this bloke also simply didn't know the convention.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:42

I am glad he was escorted off the premises.

In the UK, washing naked in front of members of the opposite sex in a public shower, is not normal. Like everyone, when I go abroad to swimming pools etc, I check out what the norm is.

But this guy had a scottish accent. So a pervert - exhibitionist.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:43

I do wish that everywhere had single sex showers though. I think it si more hygenic to wash with your costume off.

MelonadeAgain · 10/05/2014 23:45

Well I guess if he was flashing, he wasn't groping. All have happened to me in public swimming pools. They're a magnet for wierdos. Some guy had drilled holes in changing cubicles in a pool near me and was filming kids changing when he was caught by one of their parents.

AuntieMaggie Even if he was scottish he may have spent some time in scandinavia/somewhere where it is the norm and just forgot that it isn't in the uk

I guess people must forget what country they're in all the time.

Pretty sure in Scandinavia that naked swimming public pool sessions are at specific times and naked communal showering doesn't happen. Naked communal saunas - you kind of expect it and can avoid if necessary.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:47

If you can't remember the laws and accepted behaviour in a country you are from, then you have other issues and probably should not be out of the house unaccompanied.

Scottish accent so pervert? Bit simplistic dont you think?

Plus you can be a forriner and pick up an impressive local accent. Or maybe hes just unobservant abd didnt notice noone else was naked?

grocklebox · 10/05/2014 23:48

The two posta above mine are really quite offensive.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 10/05/2014 23:49

STG Grin at sister wives running the kitchen!

Mybelly I hate to say it but you can't actually get the chlorine off whatever you do! Skin is porous. Try breathing hard on your skin the day after swimming - I promise you'll get a distinct smell of chlorine.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:50

grocklebox - He is either local, or has lived in Scotland for a fair amount of time. No nobody is unobservant about whether others are naked, especially if you are somewhere where you do not know what is acceptable behaviour.
