Not an AIBU cos really the title says it all. At massive local pool with group of five girls aged 10/11. Luckily they were showering in different area, I was waiting at lockers for them to come back and get changed. Bloke in the shower, nonchalantly steps out of his trunks and made big show of rinsing them out. I did a double take, then the slow burn whilst my brain tried to process what i was seeing Shock Angry . I nabbed a passing lifeguard and said "look!!!!" He was (after getting dressed) frogmarched out and told if he came back in they'd get police involved. Creep. My group of girls saw nothing but that was more luck than anything. shudders

I'm wondering if any posters would strip off in the showers and wash in view of the pool and people of mixed ages, including children, of the opposite sex?

I sure as hell wouldn't!

BomChickaMeowMeow · 12/05/2014 14:31

Well, quite, TBW.

UriGeller · 12/05/2014 14:32

If the man was just taing a shower, naked then why wasn't he turned into the cubicle, being discreet about it?

All anyone would've seen is an unremarkable arse, which (if my gym is anything to go by) could've belonged to a woman or man.

He was being an exhibitionist and obviously the pool staff thought so too, as they showed him the door.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 12/05/2014 14:35

I would assume nakedness in a shower is acceptable TBH.

ThatBloodyWoman · 12/05/2014 14:38

So you would shower naked in front of a pool full of men, women, teenagers and children, not to mention the other showerers Tequila ?

Quite extraordinary Shock ......

TequilaMockingbirdy · 12/05/2014 14:43

Oh I've read it bloody wrong. Are we talking about the showers that you step into just before you go into the pool... not actual changing room showers..

I'm an idiot.

titchy · 12/05/2014 14:48

Do folks really need it spelled out what is at best inappropriate, if not very dodgy about a random bloke with his knob out? In a communal shower, in the UK, you shower with swimming costume on. It is illegal to do otherwise.

The man sunbathing naked by himself on a family beach on the South Coast or your local park - do you all just say to your kids 'Oh it's only genitals we've all got them it's fine he just wants an all-over tan?'

ThatBloodyWoman · 12/05/2014 14:55

Actually,Tequila it's me who's the idiot in the respect of the poolside views -reading back it seems in this particular incident the showers didn't look onto the pool but on to the lockers.

Sorry.Couldn't see for my frothing.....Blush

Mind you, in any mixed sex communal showers you could open your eyes having finished shampooing to find you are showering naked in front of men, women, teenagers and children......

TequilaMockingbirdy · 12/05/2014 15:01

I don't know who'd be more shocked.. them or me Grin

I think, on this thread, more than a few do!

I wouldn't want to see a random woman wandering around the communal showers naked either.

Single sex showers and single sex changing rooms entirely different.

If people want to prove how open minded they are, could they go somewhere other than a swimming pool to prove it please?

ChelsyHandy · 12/05/2014 15:12

I'm really trying hard to remember if naked men communally showering is the norm on the continent either. I can remember naked sunbathing and swimming in lakes in southern Germany and Austria, and the English Garden in Munich, but at swimming pools, everyone was in costumes. There were specific times for naked swimming sessions for the older hippy generation naturalists in winter. If you swim naked at a lake, you whip off your clothes under a towel, dash into the lake and are covered up by the water. You don't prance around naked washing your genitals and rinsing out your costume once you get out.

In Belgium, I was flashed at in a communal shower at a swimming pool when a young girl by a much older man. The fact that he moved his swimming trunks sideways to expose his penis to me while staring at me means there must have been no naked showering there either.

When on holiday in Iceland, I swam about 3 times in different pools and it was always single sex changing and showering. I know a poster on this thread claimed single sex naked showering there was the norm, but I never saw it. What there was were pictures showing the importance to wash your genital area before you swam. The pictures even showed lifting your swimwear aside to do it.

Just where do some of the people on here get their claimed experiences?

Sallyingforth · 12/05/2014 15:16

Yes, exactly that. I couldn't have put it better.

Of course if they had been brought up to accept genitals as just another part of the body, instead of pretending they are something disgusting, no comment would have been necessary.

SuperFlyHigh · 12/05/2014 15:20

Sallying but of course we wouldn't say that in this country (England etc) because it's illegal to do that, sunbathe naked!

and Chelsy puts it well actually re naked swimming sessions.

Having said that I used to work with a Welsh man married to a German woman and he was quite shocked at having to fraternise with his IL's nude on a, well I guess it was nudist beach, but this was in Germany.

EddieStobbart · 12/05/2014 15:21

This swimming pool definitely has at least one sign up to say swimming costumes are required to be worn when showering.

There is no open plan communal changing, it's communal changing with cubicles. Lots of family changing.

The showers are in between the changing room, not exactly pool side but pretty exposed to the pool.

Sinks beside costume spinners so other options to rising costume in shower

KatieKaye · 12/05/2014 15:22

This was in Edinburgh, not abroad and the man was Scottish. The pool is huge and hosted 2 Commonwealth Games and very busy. It is not the cultural norm in council/owned pools on Edinburgh to be naked in mixed sex areas, so there is no reason for this man to be naked. Nor is it culturally acceptable. Which is why I find his behaviour suspicious at best.

EddieStobbart · 12/05/2014 15:24

My friend when swimmjng naked when she lived in Germany. She was a bit Shock and Blush at first but she soon got into it. I haven't seen her adopt this policy back in the UK.

For those who are at ease with this - when you use a communal shower at your local council run leisure centre pool, do you remove your costume when showering?

SuperFlyHigh · 12/05/2014 15:26

Eddie in a communal shower with OTHER WOMEN then yes I do remove my costume when showering. another woman shouldn't mind seeing my fat naked body! Grin

however if there are cubicles (and often there are as well as communal ones) then I/we use them too, for privacy etc - depends sometimes if you want a nice peaceful shower in an enclosed space or not.

Sallyingforth · 12/05/2014 15:34

but of course we wouldn't say that in this country (England etc) because it's illegal to do that, sunbathe naked!

Really? Then I've been breaking that law all my life. Haven't been arrested yet.

titchy · 12/05/2014 15:37

If you've been doing that in a public place not specifically signposted as a nudist area Sally then yes you have been very lucky.

I hope you don't teach your daughters that random willies being flashed about in close proximity to them is all perfectly normal. Sad

SuperFlyHigh · 12/05/2014 15:41

Charming. Hope I don't happen upon you. and you do it in your own garden and not in a public place.

perhaps I need to spell it out to you sallying - illegal in a PUBLIC PLACE.

do what you want in the privacy of your own home/garden/mansion/swimming pool.

OnlyLovers · 12/05/2014 15:44

Its because he wanted to be seen in the shower. Did he? Did he really? DeeCee, how on earth can you possibly know that? Why do people think it's OK to make such massive assumptions?

If the man was just taing a shower, naked then why wasn't he turned into the cubicle, being discreet about it? As far as I can tell from the OP's posts he wasn't being particularly indiscreet about it –he was, despite what people keep insisting, not poolside but in a shower area facing towards the lockers. And as I keep saying, just because the OP thinks he was 'making a show' of taking his trunks off ie being indiscreet, no one can know whether he was making a show or just taking his fecking trunks off to rinse them and shower.

There are an awful lot of people jumping to the worst conclusions on here.

I think the rest of us have also been very lucky in not seeing you as well Sally.

Its not the genitals I object to - there are plenty of ugly sights around as it is, but the exhibitionism, and the notion being pedalled that somehow those who don't share this particular and really quite minority psychological tendency are somehow wrong, bad or repressed. I would feel the same about someone doing around wearing "unusual" clothing, getting in my face, shouting "look at me, I'm so inappropriate FREE, in public".

Because if there was no-one there to watch them, I doubt they would bother.

You cannot say a man with his todger out in a place where they may be little girls is not being particularly indiscreet.
Imo.
