Not an AIBU cos really the title says it all. At massive local pool with group of five girls aged 10/11. Luckily they were showering in different area, I was waiting at lockers for them to come back and get changed. Bloke in the shower, nonchalantly steps out of his trunks and made big show of rinsing them out. I did a double take, then the slow burn whilst my brain tried to process what i was seeing Shock Angry . I nabbed a passing lifeguard and said "look!!!!" He was (after getting dressed) frogmarched out and told if he came back in they'd get police involved. Creep. My group of girls saw nothing but that was more luck than anything. shudders

Presumably those of you who want to shield your children from naked bodies don't take your children into communal changing rooms?

GarlicMayHaveNamechanged · 11/05/2014 20:19

I posted this at 14:46. Everyone politely ignored me (much as they did in the situations described Grin):-

I've fallen foul of this a few times in the past. I used to travel a lot, both outside the UK and within it, and was forever either stripping off when it wasn't expected or not stripping off when it was! It's really hard to reverse - well, I'd say impossible without making an even bigger twerp of yourself. Putting a wet cozzie back on halfway through a shower is not only a highly inelegant contortion, it draws even more attention, and whipping it off risks looking as if you're trying to show off. The only thing to do is pretend you hadn't noticed and make a rapid, towel-wrapped exit!

  • Added: I'm talking about public pools and private pools, in different parts of the UK and different parts of London, as well as different parts of other countries. I'd generally keep my cozzie on if there was no-one in the shower when I started, but even that gets you funny looks in some naked places.

One particularly embarrassing few minutes: There were two families in the poolside shower, all women & children, all naked and happily messing about. I took my swimsuit off & washed it, then got on with my hair. When I emerged from the shampoo, the cheery naked folks had gone and there were two other families there, staring daggers at me while ostentatiously blocking their children's view with towels. Awkward.

Oh Garlic.

There was probably a MN about you and your perverted ways.

treaclesoda · 11/05/2014 20:22

No, I've never been in a swimming pool with communal changing rooms, only individual cubicles.

summerbreezer · 11/05/2014 20:22

*MN thread

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/05/2014 20:22

I take my children into a communal shower area visible from the pool when I go to one of the pools we swim at.

At the other pool there are separate facilities.

GarlicMayHaveNamechanged · 11/05/2014 20:22

If no one is worried about kiddie fiddling and THE LIKE then why is the whole tone of the thread "Won't someone think of the children, having to see a naked man".

Well, yes. You'd have to have a dirty mind, wouldn't you?

GarlicMayHaveNamechanged · 11/05/2014 20:23

Haha, summer, there probably was!

Oops Grin

treaclesoda · 11/05/2014 20:23

Individual cubicles, but communal showers. Where swimwear is compulsory.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/05/2014 20:24

treacle - you're lucky. my local leisure centre (Beckenham if you're interested) has communal changing rooms.

but they have cubicle as well as women's showers/changing rooms and men's - both separate.

there MAY have been the odd occasional when a naked man/woman has been wandering round but I'm sure this has been knocked on the head, as it were.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/05/2014 20:24

cubicles not one cubicle!

summerbreezer · 11/05/2014 20:25

How can you change without exposing something momentarily?

We've all done the towel round the waist thing, but it is bloody difficult.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/05/2014 20:25

why would you have to have a dirty mind, thinking of children seeing a naked man?

some stuff is just meant to be kept private, men's penises etc and all.

"I" do not want to see a nude man at a swimming pool changing room.

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/05/2014 20:27

I can easily summerbreeze and have many times in settings where other people are present who I don't want to expose myself to.

But this isn't about accidental exposure anyway.

Owllady · 11/05/2014 20:29

I know this is completely inappropriate, but I bet it was like a walnut whip anyway after being g in a cold local authority pool for any amount of time

summerbreezer · 11/05/2014 20:29

Yes it is. Someone getting changed in a communal changing room and taking off their swimming cozzie to dry themselves is exposing themselves deliberately in the same way someone to take their cozzie off to have a shower is.

There is no difference.

Obviously it is your choice if you do not wish to expose yourself to other people. I am going to dry myself in a changing room as I see fit. I will not be "parading" around, I will remain naked for as long as is necessary to do what I need to do.

summerbreezer · 11/05/2014 20:30

Owllady Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/05/2014 20:34

There absolutely is a difference.

There is intentional and non intentional exposure.

AnyFucker · 11/05/2014 20:37

Well, it appears that some people will argue for the latter so vociferously they can completely put the former out of their mind. Which is strange.

summerbreezer · 11/05/2014 20:37

There is intentional and non intentional exposure

Absolutely.

When my bikini top comes off on a flume aged 14 in a French water park which may or may not have happened that is unintentional exposure.

When I deliberately take an item I am wearing off - whether to change or shower, that is intentional exposure. Hence why they are the same thing.

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/05/2014 20:38

I have to say that I think mixed sex changing facilities are wholly inappropriate though and I wouldn't take my dc's into them.

Mixed shower facilities attached to a pool are for rinsing off, not the full Imperial Leather experience. There is no need for nudity in that circumstance.

AnyFucker · 11/05/2014 20:40

I have that awful Shitsinger woman in my mind now having communal orgasms while she washes her hair in Herbal Essences Smile

treaclesoda · 11/05/2014 20:41

Mixed sex changing with cubicles is a very good idea in my opinion, because it solves the age old problem of 'does 8 year old boy go into opposite sex changing room with parent, or into their own sex changing room alone?'. And it allows family groups to change together, which is good.

Mixed sex communal changing, well, in my naivety I had never heard of such a thing until I read this thread. Its not for me.

summerbreezer · 11/05/2014 20:41

Well, it appears that some people will argue for the latter so vociferously they can completely put the former out of their mind. Which is strange.

And vice versa. Smile
