Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Yeah the vendor said they take it down when it's reported and it's other vendors reporting each other.

Hi, hoping to join you soon. I have made the decision to switch from Embassy No1 to vaping after being charged £9.17 for 20 but literally know nothing so am reading the threads to research before I jump.

I've smoked for 30 years & am slightly daunted; I think tobacco/fag flavour will be the way to go for me.

Anyway, hope to be on this thread properly, seemed rude to read/lurk & not say hello!

Cantabile · 19/04/2014 12:05

Plenty, thanks for the PM. When dh gets back I'll ask him if he does have a direct email address for anyone at ebay (he has had many exchanges over his years of selling) and if he does, I'll PM you with it.

Hi member! Welcome!

Shonajay · 19/04/2014 12:05

Hi member, I was on 20 silk cut a day, so I'm vaping 18mgs. I too smoked for thirty years, but surprisingly, I can't stand any of the tobacco flavours I bought, I much prefer the sweet or fruity ones. Anyway I have an mvp2 for the battery life which was £42 and have just ordered a rainbow one that looks like a pen to keep in my bag. I also have the started kit from ecigwizard as at the beginning I thought I'd make any excuse to get back on the fags. That's me four weeks tomorrow and I literally prefer vaping to cigarettes x

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 12:08

Hi member & welcome to the thread Smile.

I'd smoked for nearer 40 years, and was on 30 a day. I thought I would never ever be able to pack in smoking but have finally managed thanks to vaping.

Something to think about is that you don't have to swap from the stinkies to vaping all in one go, many of us started by just replacing a few with the e-cig & then let that build over time (me included). I agree that even if only in the mind you'll want to start with a tobacco type flavour, but once you've got into it a bit then try out some other flavours - some people stick with tobacco forever, some go completely over to other flavours, some stay alternating.

One thing I think you will pick up from these threads is that it's probably not worth bothering with a cigalike but you may as well go straight for a decent battery & tank system. You'll get a much better experience that way, and save so much more money in the long run Grin.

Have fun with reading the threads Shock and feel free to ask anything once you've decided to take the plunge.

BlueSkyCrystal · 19/04/2014 12:09

Hello and welcome, member Smile

I smoked over 40 a day and thought I'd like tobacco as well. It's worth trying all sorts.

My Refresher flavour turned up earlier and it is awesome!

SoleSource · 19/04/2014 12:24

Never known plenty to be rude.

member · 19/04/2014 12:26

Thanks all, I can see the temptation of a cigalike as it seems less "hassle", but yes, from what I've read so far, battery & tank seems the way to go.

Heartening to read that there are others who have been on 20+ a day for years & that vaping doesn't just help "social" smokers.

Interesting that you can mix vaping & smoking - I'd like to go cold turkey with the fags if poss...

BlueSkyCrystal · 19/04/2014 12:28

She wasn't rude at all, Sole. Sorry Plenty - I feel bad now Sad

I just liked that you didn't let him off the hook during the bluster. Even DH roared when he mentioned DEFRA.

SoleSource · 19/04/2014 12:41

Lol blue

Refresher flavour. Have you tried it yet. Fizzy refresher blue wrapper or tube of refreshers.

Shonajay · 19/04/2014 12:50

Morning all! I have a question (I know, it's not like me, I had to take liquid morphine this morning and very nearly refilled my MVP with it lol) anyway I've been reading that the plastic tanks can break on the mvps can someone recommend where I'd find one or two? Since I'm off work at the moment I'm obsessed. Can you tell? X

BlueSkyCrystal · 19/04/2014 13:01

It's definitely blue chewy refresher bar.

Morphine e-liquid Shock

Are you after a glass tank, Shona? I've never used one. Pineapple is the most likely flavour to crack them but I've never had a problem vaping it. I should get a couple, though. Just because...

Shinyitis Saturday Grin

Shonajay · 19/04/2014 13:05

No I don't think glass is a good thing for me as I drop things a lot! Was just wondering if you could get replacement plastic ones! And luckily I didn't fill with morphine- can you imagine?!x

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 13:12

EBay or Amazon is your cheapest bet Shona - more chance of getting clones but so very cheap. Or just Google your favourite type of clearo & loads will come up. I'm pretty sure the MVP takes the same tank as the standard Ego type, so if you're after cheap replacements I'd personally go for GS-H2s.

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 13:12

Oh and some of the plastic ones can break when you drop them too only broken 3 like that myself so far

BlueSkyCrystal · 19/04/2014 13:17

I bought a couple of stainless steel clearos from the closing down sale upthread. They look great on the MPV. Can't link as on phone but I think they are evods?

magimedi · 19/04/2014 13:31

Hallo Member - I smoked for nearly 40 years (20 a day) & have now been fag free for 19 months!!

I used to smoke gold virginia rollies & (unlike the others here) am not a fan of all the exotic flavours. I only like the tobacco flavours.

I smoke The Sherlock from www.ecigwizard.com.

I started with 18mg strength & am now down to 12mg.

I also both vaped & smoked for a week & then just stopped all the fags & have not had one since. The way you puff on a vape is a bit different to a fag - much slower & longer draws. It may make you cough a bit as well, the first few times.

I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel - I can bound up hills now, have no cough or wheeze & am swimming 1K 3x a week. AND I have not put on any weight - in fact with the increased exercise I have dropped a size in the last 4 months.

If you have a vape shop near you, it's well worth going there & getting a starter kit & some juice . It may be a few pounds more than on line, but you will get so much help & advice.

Right you lot the thread goes so fast! Ive ordered some more clearos and a bottom coil kangar thing just from what youve all been talking about but what I REALLY NEED in my life is the whereabouts of buying refresher flavoued liquid!!

BlueSkyCrystal · 19/04/2014 13:48

Its from Vale Escape. Made by Triphammer. It didn't even need steeping!

Raia · 19/04/2014 13:57

The egg custard tart liquid from Alchemist's Cupboard is absolutely bloody delicious!

ilovesooty · 19/04/2014 14:38

My closing down sale stuff came today, beautifully wrapped and with a friendly note and some freebies. I do hope the owner's family difficulties sort themselves out soon.

BlueSkyCrystal · 19/04/2014 15:16

That was nice. I also wish them well Flowers

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 15:31

Dear Vapers ... I imagine this has been asked before, but am insufficiently committed (yet?) to scour all the threads. Feel free to point me to the information I need if you don't want to repeat yourselves.

I'm a really heavy smoker - old school. I'm more addicted to the act of smoking than the nicotine. I've got a couple of the screw-in e-cigs, but find them ineffective because it's not enough like smoking, iyswim. Vaping kits with 'flat' mouthpieces (like pipes) are horrible. Ideally, I need something tubular in shape, that feels like a cigarette, which emits something very like smoke into my mouth - that is, I want to be able to draw on it properly, and something hot & a bit prickly to get into my mouth when I do.

Haven't a clue if that made sense, or whether I'm coming out with Every Smoker's Excuse, but please humour me if you can!
