Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

You can get mouthpieces that are round, mine all are. Someone else will be able to advise you more on throat hit, something to do with the mixture. I find menthol gives me the best throat hit. When i smoke, I smoke very heavily.

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 15:42

Thanks, Dwerf! That's strangely encouraging. I do hope people will help me figure out what I need to buy, and what to do with it ... I wasted a couple of hundred quid on the ones I bought, which of course I instantly translated into how many fags that would have paid for Hmm

Dwerf · 19/04/2014 16:01

mine are cheap starter kits, cost me twenty quid with juice included, and there's cheaper still. Couple of pages back Plenty put an ebay link to cheap clearos up, and paradisevapeuk has cheap batteries

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 16:08

Hi Garlic. I was the same; heavy smoker, as bad about the "hand to mouth" thing as the nicotine, smoking was often a reflex action triggered by almost anything. And I didn't really want to give up, even though I knew I needed to for both financial & health reasons. It took me months of slowly "weaning" myself from cigarettes to e-cigs, but now I'm over 9 weeks smoke free & don't ever want to go back to the stinkies.

I don't think you are going to get anything that will give you a really satisfying vape that's only the same size and lightness of a real cigarette, and as you found out the cigalikes really aren't much cop for a dedicated smoker. However if you get the right strength, flavour & mix of decent liquid then you can get the nice aspects of smoking without the ashy burnt taste - hand to mouth effect, something in your hand to fiddle with, nicotine, the feeling of vapour, the taste in your mouth and the throat hit. The only thing you might miss a bit is the heat of "real" smoke, but you may not even notice that when you get a nice clean taste of tobacco (or fruit, or chocolate, or whatever really Grin ) without the burning tastes.

The majority of tanks (aka clearomisers, clearos) that come with starter kits have a round mouthpiece. And the majority of starter kits come with cylindrical batteries, so the right shape just a little bit bigger & heavier than you are used to.

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 16:12

Ah! Okay! Thanks, all. I didn't realise a slow crossover can actually work - I'd better read your old threads after all. And, er, go shopping. Do you mind if I post links & ask questions?

Dwerf · 19/04/2014 16:14

I don't think anyone minds that garlic. Smile

Shonajay · 19/04/2014 16:16

See you people,!! I had to go to the closing down sale!, I'm addicted! Got a couple of clear ps and lots of e liquid at £1.63 each! Bargain.

Shonajay · 19/04/2014 16:20

Garlic I have to say I was the same. I'm four weeks fag free, got an mvp2 which is large, but after trying the garage cheapies a copule of years ago I was amazed. To me it's like proper smoking. It's incredible. And after the initial outlay ( I don't or can't talk about that lol) I'm saving £250 a month. Which I'm now spending on ugg boots. The people here are so patient and helpful, I couldn't have done it without them.

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 16:34

it's like proper smoking - I've never heard anyone say that of vaping before! I just googled mvp2 ... it's like a box with a pipe sticking out? Confused

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 16:35

Congrats on your new Uggs, btw Grin

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 16:42

Garlic don't worry about MVPs, they are for when you get shinyitis a few weeks or months down the line Wink. Google Ego c Twist, or EVOD, to get an idea of what most of them look like. Or if you like bling, Google Vision Spinner Rainbow

Depends very much on how much you smoke/used to smoke Polter - those ones would last me about half a day (replacing a 30 a day habit) Blush

magimedi · 19/04/2014 16:48

Just start with a beginners kit, Garlic.

If you have a vape shop near you go & see them - a few more pounds but the advice is worth it.

Honestly, if I can give up smoking I reckon anyone can - smoking was my hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shonajay · 19/04/2014 17:02

A meet would be fab xx

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 17:04

Ooh! We have a vape shop in the nearest town! I'm going there next week anyway :) Never occurred to me there'd be physical outlets. Thanks!

magimedi · 19/04/2014 17:04

I think (& only think) that steeping is when you make your own liquids you have to leave them to mature/steep for about 30 days?

Can you tell me what the wrap is in your pic?
