to think a 'hide poster' option would be helpful

Particularly in 'support' sections of the site, such as Relationships and
Parenting.

I'm disheartened to see supportive and helpful threads (mine and others) highjacked by a few bad eggs who offer nothing but spiteful diggs. I've seen a lot of OPs abandon helpful threads because of one or two people who comment just to tear down an OP who is already on her knees.

Hide Poster option please MNHQ. This would enable you to block a certain poster's comments from your view, but other people can still see them.

netmums has hide poster I always thought it was weird for some reason not sure why, I have only felt the need to hide one poster on here but ignoring them worked better,

Surely they'd just end up hiding everyone who disagrees with them?

It's quite easy to skip by posts if you don't like them. I can't see any need for a hide poster button.

I know that's the go-to response in AIBU but I'm talking about support sections of the site, where the OP is usually in no fit state to "grow up" at that current time.

How would that work realistically? There could be swathes of posts people are talking about and referring to, and you would have no idea what was going on or what they were talking about. You would have to base your replies based on assumption not fact. In fact, I think it would be impossible to join in constructively on any thread where you have hidden posters.

I think if you are using a forum for support then you need to be able to take the good with the bad, and some people do take the direct approach and I do think you (the general you) need to be able to get past that, if not then maybe forums are not for you, the report post button is handy

Yes it is, and then the comment is deleted, which is just as 'confusing' for other readers, no?

well no not really yes i sometimes wonder what they could have said to have a message deleted but it is usually so bad then we are better off not knowing

No not confusing, because then no one posting can read the deleted post and refer to it so it's an even playing field for everyone.

Be an adult and ignore. I think some folk take Mumsnet a little too seriously, it boarders on unhealthy.

Forums can be a help but also a hindrance. If something a perfect stranger says effects you so badly, there is a deeper issue that needs addressing!

I think it's a really good idea, they've got the option on netmums & they seem to cope ok with it ( the site is probably as big as mumsnet ) you can also hide/block posters on Facebook. It just puts you more in control & makes the whole on-line experience more enjoyable. You shouldn't have to just 'put up with people'

I can see the attraction sometimes - there are a couple of posters who I would be tempted to hide. But tbh it's better to learn to ignore them IMO.

And sometimes it's worth seeing what utter bollocks people can spout. It reinforces my own bollocks Grin

Plus, most posters name change regularly don't they?

Yes, that's how I feel. And I'm specifically talking about support sections of the site where OPs are usually on their knees and in no mental state to just 'put up with people'. But it seems the enjoyment of others to watch the vipers in action overrules user control.

The nature of a forum is that you get a wider variety of responses, though I think most people would not post to attack someone in obvious distress and mn to be responsible for deleting those posts imo otherwise it often turns into a free for all. Which is unhelpful

Most don't thankfully, but there are a few bad eggs. I'm only suggesting a hide poster option for the support sections.

what Owlady says do people really abuse people when they are on their arse, I am not sure that happens often and the report rather than hide poster is probably better,
