to think a 'hide poster' option would be helpful

Particularly in 'support' sections of the site, such as Relationships and
Parenting.

I'm disheartened to see supportive and helpful threads (mine and others) highjacked by a few bad eggs who offer nothing but spiteful diggs. I've seen a lot of OPs abandon helpful threads because of one or two people who comment just to tear down an OP who is already on her knees.

Hide Poster option please MNHQ. This would enable you to block a certain poster's comments from your view, but other people can still see them.

you are new-ish? peers down lorgnette

Smilesandpiles · 30/03/2014 15:07

I'd hide myself.

In a vat of Gin.

Oblomov · 30/03/2014 15:07

'All the Moldies and their spelling'
Ha ha.

LordPalmerston · 30/03/2014 15:08

oh NO!!

the moldies were so good at spelling that the whole website was on vellum.

LordPalmerston · 30/03/2014 15:08

hahah! Grin

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2014 15:09

This thread is a nice demonstration about how a 'hide poster' function would diminish MN IMO.
On the support boards anything nasty/unhelpful/goading should be reported and deleted, not just hidden by individuals I think.
All the rest is a free for all Grin (as long as ya'll abide by the Talk Guidelines, natch).

Was that a stealth boast, Lord, hm? 'Me and the Moldies'. Tsk tsk Grin

Lauren83 · 30/03/2014 15:09

Funnily enough I have noticed the same one always at it, I would be clean to block them too, every thread no matter the subject they are always kicking off, not sure if they are a troll or just a bit old hag!

Pagwatch · 30/03/2014 15:09
Grin
LordPalmerston · 30/03/2014 15:10

Boast? Or what?.

Lauren83 · 30/03/2014 15:10

Keen!
Bitter!
Sorry was typing on iPhone not looking

fedthefuckupnowwhat · 30/03/2014 15:10

Gen35 the anti-SAHM venom, verging on misogyny ("I'm glad I'm not a man/I fear for my sons") was the final straw. At that moment I knew the thread had been lost. It was a damn shame as there had been so many helpful 'leads' for me to follow. And the thread was a great haven for me to retreat to when things were blowing up at home.

BUT, this really isn't a TAAT. I want to discuss the general proposal of a block poster function on all support areas of MN.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 30/03/2014 15:10

Pag and Lord, take it outside.
Or book a room

Everybody else, move long now, nothing to see

LordPalmerston · 30/03/2014 15:11

I suppose the whole argument is like the one on the Twitter abuse - wether criado Perez should have just hidden and ignored or reported, even if it was a hassle.

Am I overthinking?

LordPalmerston · 30/03/2014 15:11

(Doggy, all she does is WATCH things all the time! Pervert)

MoominsYonisAreScary · 30/03/2014 15:11

I just cant see how a hide option would be helpful in the circumstances the op discribes.

After all not everyone would know who they should hide.

Mintyy · 30/03/2014 15:11

Completely agree with cafecito. Its not difficult to ignore the posters you consistently don't see eye to eye with, or who have political views (or similar) which just make you plain dislike them.

LordPalmerston · 30/03/2014 15:12

we could have a 'hide and seek' option where someone is hidden but you never know WHERE and they pop out and say BOO

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/03/2014 15:12

I agree OP, it's a great option to have. I used to be on a parenting site with the option to hide twats posters and it made the world a nicer placeSmile

Smilesandpiles · 30/03/2014 15:13

Isn't that just the same as namechanging Lord ?

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2014 15:13

fed, sorry, I got sucked in the general flippantary - I do understand where you are coming from, but I don't think that 'hide poster' would solve your problem because people who disagree with you or are eedjits or misogynists or anything else unpleasant will always be about. And as long as they are polite about it, they can express their opinion, no matter how misguided.

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2014 15:14

I find ignoring work v well for me.
There are usually many more posters on a thread that I can engage with, so just not commenting on some weirdos is easy enough.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/03/2014 15:14

Actually I'm compiling a list in my head right now, I'm up to five posters alreadyWink Grin

shakethetree · 30/03/2014 15:16

Grin lordpalmerston.

hunreeeal · 30/03/2014 15:17

I don't think it would help. Threads would make less sense if you could see the replies to someone who'd posted, but not what they were referring to.

mrsjay · 30/03/2014 15:17

*well you know this comes up all the time..

grin

Sorry that sounded like I was going to accuse you of summat MAJOR like.*

aye thought i was in trouble Grin
