to think a 'hide poster' option would be helpful

Particularly in 'support' sections of the site, such as Relationships and
Parenting.

I'm disheartened to see supportive and helpful threads (mine and others) highjacked by a few bad eggs who offer nothing but spiteful diggs. I've seen a lot of OPs abandon helpful threads because of one or two people who comment just to tear down an OP who is already on her knees.

Hide Poster option please MNHQ. This would enable you to block a certain poster's comments from your view, but other people can still see them.

I would like a hide poster button. There are some posters who are nasty and I'd rather not read their posts.

I use MN for enjoyment and I would enjoy it more without some posters contributions.

I second what Mrs deVere says. There are currently a few people who consistently post the same agenda laden crap on one support forum in particular. To people who find themselves in a very difficult position. It's tiresome, they're toxic BUT they are clever enough to post their 'advice' in an ever so factual, passive aggressive ' aren't I reasonable way' that there is NOTHING to report them for. They goad, they gang up and they are pathetic little bullies who really boil my piss Grin And occasionally make it boil over Blush I'd LOVE a hide poster button. A bif shiny red one please.

I just don't want to have to hide posters - admitting that some posts/posters ought to be hidden seems like some strange admission of defeat to me. Does that make any sense at all? Confused

But if I hid Maryz, and then my thread was full of "I agree with Maryz, she's summed it up brilliantly" or "ignore Maryz, she's talking ill informed tosh" it would drive me up the wall. Though I guess that would be my personal choice - MNHQ would just implement it as an option, not impose it.

The one thing you couldn't have is a ban that crossed name changes, because of the threat to anonymity.

Not really. You only have to look at the number orphan returning banned posters to see that it would have no effect on trolling.

I was on a forum with a hide button - although you couldn;t change your name over and over either so it worked

it had the added bonus of really pissing off the offending poster as they could tell you had blocked them

just can't see it working here with the name change thing

Yes Maryz, or if you read a particularly juicy / identifying thread by a temporary namechanger you could then block them and watch out for who has been blocked when they change their name back to their normal one. Useful, but perhaps not ideal.
