Oh and DP says that my snoring is much better since I stopped smoking? Cheeky get! I didn't even snore Smile

Ladies don't forget that it can take many months for our lungs to shift the crap that's been building up in them over the years, and for our bodies to adjust - I think when a family friend gave up smoking he reckoned he had more colds/coughs the next winter than he'd had in the previous ten.

There's also the fact that at least in my case smoking would have a slightly numbing effect on my throat, so again my body is having to adjust to not having that effect. Add in getting used to the subtly different throat hit from PG, and it's understandable that it could take us maybe years to get over these little issues. Still light years better than smoking though Smile.

Allergictoironing · 28/02/2014 22:08

Maggie I had a boyfriend once who swore he didn't snore, so I recorded him one night & played it back the next day. He flatly refused to believe the recording was real for ages, until another friend of ours was staying in the spare room & asked the next day which of us had been snoring so loudly it had kept him awake in the next room Wink.

magimedi · 28/02/2014 22:25

Women do not snore. Known fact - wot I tell Dh (herder of pigs) very often.

I have to say that nearly 18 months - yes, 18 months - into not smoking I have had far fewer colds & those that I have had (2, I think) have gone really quickly & I have not been left with 4 weeks of debilitating hacking cough.

I love vaping - puff!

Hehe! Allergic. that is not even funny! I had a boyfriend from 16 to 30, never once mentioned that I snored. So,obviously I didn't think that I did. It wasn't until new DP videoed me on his phone that I realised that yeah. I really do snore like a pig! Shock thanks for that DP Blush haha!

MaggieMcGill · 28/02/2014 22:34

Magi! That is exactly what I thought until I was shown the evidence. It wasn't pretty. Apparently I take over the bed too Confused

Ledare · 28/02/2014 22:39

Please be aware that a croaky voice for over three weeks in former or long term-smokers with no other symptoms should be talked about with a GP and further tests given. That was my only complaint and it led to a biopsy even after the ENT camera thing.

magimedi · 28/02/2014 22:39

maggie No you don't - keep up the denial, I do!!

Ledare · 28/02/2014 22:43

paris, they will! I chain-smoked for 25 years. Tried everything. You will love vaping"

MaggieMcGill · 28/02/2014 22:44

Hehe! 18 months. Is that all? Jesus! It seems much longer. kidding obviously. How are you? X

magimedi · 28/02/2014 22:57

maggie I am fine.

Can now swim 1K of front crawl & just so loving the better lung function.

Paris - they will work, mix the vaping & the rela thing for a week or so & wean yourself off the cigs,

Honestly, if I can stop anyone can. Smoking was my hobby - I bloody loved it & now love vaping even more.

Ok Ledare, bit spooked out now. I'll deffinatly keep an eye on it, there has certainly been things that I've noticed but I've put it down to vaping tbh. I thought it had been drying my throat to much. I'm am asshole!

FlockOfTwats · 28/02/2014 23:10

Allergic - I've had loads of crap coming off my chest in the last couple of months, since i started exercising again, I think the exercise had triggered a clear out!

My OH denies snoring too. Him and my daughter are like a pair of frieght trains. DDs Dad is even worse.

MaggieMcGill · 28/02/2014 23:33

1 k. Is that like one kilometre? Is that not just a wee bit less than a mile? sorry I'm a wee bit thick here. Scottish! You've just swam hunners :) Go Magi! I can't even do a length, dreading going back to the gym next week.

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/03/2014 00:15

I've been skiving the gym too Maggie, just drinking loads of water and eating properly and retin a
I'm down a dress size but need to tone up which sadly involves the torture chamber.
Mebbe next week...
Smile

magimedi · 01/03/2014 07:57

Maggie 1K = about two thirds of a mile. It's 40 lengths in the 25M pool I swim in. A mile would be 64 lengths, which I am not aiming for.

I have never been to a gym in my life (well, since school days) but I love swimming, really love it so it is no hardship to me. And I do have a back that plays up from time to time & if I swim regularly it stays so much better, that it is worth it. And I am old & retired so can go at a time to please & don't have to rush to fit it in, which probably makes the biggest difference of all.

When you go back to the gym I think you will be amazed at how much more you can do as a non smoker.

Katie I've not been since the week before Christmas. Planning on going back next week but I'm dreading it already. Metafit sucks! good for you though, stopping smoking and going down a dress size. Well done Smile

MaggieMcGill · 01/03/2014 08:34

I really do hope so Magi. I've run out of excuses now. At first it was Christmas, then our holiday, DP's birthday, too cold and dark. I do actually enjoy it once I'm there, it's just a thought going back. I treated myself to two new sports bras this week to try and get back in the zone Grin

40 lengths is very impressive.

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/03/2014 08:58

Week after next for me Maggie. I'm on leave so can go every day and deal with the back to the gym initial aches and pains at home. It's been a while for me so it's going to hurt Wink

magimedi · 01/03/2014 09:32

Also meant to say that I started swimming again about 7th January & I was struggling to do 12 lengths! I have never been able to swim as well as this before & I really do put it down to the lack of fags!

Good luck, gym girls! Let me know how it goes.

I always go for a swim after my workout magi, more as a cool down though. Will be interesting to see how my lungs cope now I'm no longer inhaling 30 a day Smile

Ledare · 01/03/2014 09:46

Gah! Sorry to spook you.

Five weeks today Grin

Well done everyone! Thanks

magimedi · 01/03/2014 09:54

Well done, Ledare !
