Ledaire - in case I miss you later, good luck for tomorrow!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/02/2014 20:00

Yes I would Ledaire. I wrote a very honest review on there for some CE4s I got once which leaked everywhere.

Ledaire · 11/02/2014 20:01

Thanks Allergic Smile

lol at the honest review!

TalisaMaegyr · 11/02/2014 21:23

Right ladies. The time has come. Can someone please recommend me the best starter kit to buy? I've been smoking for 30 years, although I gave up for both my pregnancies. I did try Clear Smoke a couple of years ago, but I lost all the bits Blush

It needs to be cheap! Can anyone help please?

Allergictoironing · 11/02/2014 21:39

Define "cheap"? Though I can almost guarantee it will have paid for itself in a week Smile.

TalisaMaegyr · 11/02/2014 21:44

Can't get it until about 20th - but say about £40 ish? Or am I looking at spending more than that?

Ledaire · 11/02/2014 21:53

Are you smoking actual ready-made cigs at £7 per pack?

I was, over two weeks ago after twenty five years of chain-smoking, Champix, hypnotherapists, Allen Carr and nicotine patches. Three packs a day.

£40 will be more than enough, don't worry.

TalisaMaegyr · 11/02/2014 21:59

Yep. At least 20 a day. I have had enough, but I love smoking Sad I just can't afford it, and I'm starting to worry about my health...

Allergictoironing · 11/02/2014 22:01

No, £40 should be fine. You CAN get the absolute basics for a fair bit less than that, but I think probably going up a level to ensure decent quality is well worth it if affordable.

I will leave it to others to recommend different particular makes but in general you'll need 2 batteries so you can vape while one battery is on charge (ideally 900MaH so they last a decent length of time between charges), a charger (USB is the standard that comes with starter packs), at least a couple of clearomisers and some "juice" (the nicotine liquid you vape). You'll ideally want the kit to say it's EGO or 510 thread compatible.

You should be able to get the starter kit from a specialist on line vaping company, Amazon or even e-bay. For the juice you're best to get it at least initially from one of the various companies recommended on this and the previous threads e.g. Paradise Vape, Vaping Vision.

The very best way is to see if you have a local vaping shop and go in there. They are likely to let you try various devices & set ups to see what you like best, and even try out some of the wonderful flavours available Grin

Allergictoironing · 11/02/2014 22:10

Gah clumsy cow (me)! Managed to unplug my keyboard with my foot mid-post! Blush. Lets start the 2nd half of my post again.....

I was a 30 a day girl until around Xmas, and I think the main reason why I'd never managed to give up was that I like you loved smoking so I didn't really want to, though I needed to for both health & financial reasons. But vaping with a decent set up has been a revelation! Not only is it more sociable (can vape in other's houses, & guests don't have to worry about the smell here), and healthier, but it's saved me a small fortune already despite my paranoia about having shed loads of spare kit.

Please someone better equipped than me post some really decent recommendations for Talisa for starter kits!

magimedi · 11/02/2014 22:30

Talisa I will say what I always say, that if you have an independent e cig shop near to you - get down there. It will be a couple of quid more for your kit than ordering on line, but they will show you what to do & how it al lworks & most probably give you the chance to try a few different flavours of juice for your vaper.

I am now coming up to 18 months withou a cigarette, after 40+ years of smoking & failed attempts. Go for it !

Ledaire · 11/02/2014 22:46

magimedi I had no idea how epic your achievement was!

Talisa, it really is worth doing.

magimedi · 11/02/2014 23:00

Flowers - Ledaire - I am now going to bed feeling great. I don't stealth boast about it - I shout it from the rooftops.

Honestly, if I can give up cigs anyone can. I was the world's most dedicated smoker. It was my hobby!!

And I am now feeling so much better. My lung function has improved so much & I am swimming three times a week & am nearly at my goal of 40 lengths of front crawl each swim - could only do 15 or so when I was smoking. And I can walk up hills without collapsing & wheezing.

And - best of all- my pelvic floor has improved enormously. No more dripping with laughing or sneezing.

magimedi Grin Grin Grin

You are AWESOME!

Perihelion · 12/02/2014 11:46

Talisa got my starter kit on Saturday in a local vap shop. Was £45 with 2 v.big batteries and 2 bottls of juice. After the initial outlay it will still be cheaper than smoking rollies for me.

4 days no fags. Still tobacco in the house, but not tempted at all....fucking amazing Grin

TalisaMaegyr · 12/02/2014 12:13

Fabulous! I think there is a vaping shop quite close to me actually, I'll check it out at the weekend! Thanks you lot Thanks Will let you know how I get on.

MsMarvel · 12/02/2014 15:01

Popping in to ask a question... Is everyone who has a vaporiser a past smoker? I'm thinking about getting one and smoking no nicotine flavours. I've tried my friends, and love the flavours like candy floss, boo boo brew and a few others I don't know the name of. But is it strange to do if I have never smoked?

Cantabile · 12/02/2014 16:22

Don't take offence, MsMarvel, but I think it would be mad to vape if you've never smoked.

Cantabile · 12/02/2014 17:39

Posted too soon - suddenly had to dash off - that was a bit abrupt, MsMarvel, sorry. I have thought a bit more about your question now. 1) it will cost you money, and 2) we do not know for certain what the risks involved in vaping are, we just know it has got to be less risky than smoking.

On the other hand, I know that I do not feel the need to suck sweets or suchlike, which I know I have when I have tried cutting down smoking before. It may be - may - that vaping turns out to be a dietary aid in some cases. Most people who vape have said that giving up smoking by vaping has meant they do not put on weight, often a side effect of giving up, and probably quite a serious one healthwise.

Otherwise, we are all grown-ups and make our own choices. Read up on the ingredients which go into the liquid because that is what you will be ingesting, and it is always a good idea to know as well as you can what you are doing to yourself. Who are we to tell you what to do?

ginmakesitallok · 12/02/2014 17:41

I don't see why it would be mad to vape if you haven't smoked. Mad to vape anything other than 0% nicotine of course!

ginmakesitallok · 12/02/2014 17:42

Oh- and if you are going to vape 0% then you are much cheaper to make your own liquid, some VG from boots, some flavouring and some PG and you are good to go

Allergictoironing · 12/02/2014 18:01

I could actually see it being useful for non-smokers who have another habit they are trying to give up e.g. having a vape instead of munching on biscuits or chocolate if one were trying to lose weight. In theory it isn't addictive if 0% nicotine is vaped, though I could see it becoming very habit forming!

Cantabile · 12/02/2014 18:35

Gin, yes, I changed my tune in the next post a bit I think Grin. That'll teach me to click post hurriedly!

I think I panicked a little as the EU bureaucrats are talking of it being a gateway into smoking, and justify their desire to ban it.

Cantabile · 12/02/2014 18:44

OK, I have been going through some of my liquids and I have a few more going begging. All been opened and tried so not entirely full.

10ml Maple Syrup, 18mg Joose Juice
5ml Mulled wine, 24mg decadent Vapours
5ml Christmas Pudding, 24mg Decadent Vapours
5ml Chocolate orange (this was a little squashed when it got to me, but doesn't seem to be leaking), 24mg Decadent Vapours.

Ledaire, hope you're OK, that things went well and you're feeling all right. Your chocolate is winging its way to you and should be there in the next couple of days. Thanks

Ledaire · 12/02/2014 20:21

Hello! Thank you for your good wishes and messages.

They did the biopsy but didn't see anything hugely worrying while they were at it so didn't take much. It is "congestion" on the vocal chords whatever that means.

I can confirm that stealth vaping is indeed possible, and even converted someone while I was at it Grin
