AIBU?

to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

Thank you both.

Ordered the kit plus some cappuccino, chocolate lime & virginia tobacco (all medium strength). Pathetic....but I can't wait :)

Hello again Hettie - I've just looked at the Vape Escape website properly. In terms of liquid I'd suggest an 8mg 10ml vanilla since that should go with pretty much anything (unless you hate vanilla of course) and a few of the 5ml 18mg samplers. I don't think there's anyone on this thread vaping higher than 18mg liquid. I smoked rollies while sucking a nicotine lozenge when I started vaping and I was fine with 14mg from the start.

We're getting dangerously close to a full thread here (she says making the situation worse). Would anyone like to volunteer to start the new thread since Katy has gone awol? I don't mind doing it if nobody else wants to (hint hint Plenty).

Thanks, Queen.

How many ml do people get through a week?

Report
QueenStromba · 14/11/2013 22:13

I get through about 30ml a week.

Report
Cantabile · 15/11/2013 00:56

I use about two tankfuls a day, which is 1.6ml a day, which is 11.2ml a week. My intake is going up though.

I started with a tobacco flavour, but quickly found I wanted something a little bit fresher, and the baccy left my mouth feeling like a cess-pit! Ever since, I have mixed some Apple with it, and I really like it. I got some RY4 too, but it's a bit sweet - I'm getting used to it though, and always put some baccy flavour with it, too.

If I lived anywhere near a shop, I'd go in to see if I could just try a few other flavours, but I don't want to spend the money on liquid that I find I don't like (cherry for instance).

20ml a week for me - still happy with Sherlock tobacco flavour. I don't like any of the fruity/coffee/caramel ones, but then I don't have a sweet tooth at all. I don't even like chocolate very much (will I get booted off MN?)

Do start another thread, Queen - there seem to be plenty of us & more joining!

Doin Grin If it works, you're doing it right! Sorry if I made it sound over-complicated, I'm a natural tinkerer and am having far too much fun taking these things to bits to see how they work.

Queen, yes I've been thinking we should start a new thread. Where should it go? It's not really an AIBU anymore.

Report
magimedi · 15/11/2013 09:26

It may not be an AIBU but if you put it in Chat it will vanish & there is some very good info on here for any one starting out.

AIBU to say it should go in AIBU? Grin

Queen and Plenty Thanks, that makes sense now. So, basically I can use either the 2 or the 2.4ohms in the VV without them exploding but they probably won't work so well on my other ego batteries. Is that right?

Doin Don't worry, I'm the same and I've been vaping for 7 weeks now. Stick with the thread though, there is some great advise here.

Ilovesooty Thanks for pointing me towards the Smok VV. It's great to have a battery that actually works now. Mine were driving me up the wall.

Cantabile I've been ordering from Joose Juice. They have 10ml bottles for £1.50 and very quick delivery. I'm not to keen on their coffee flavours, they are very strong but I do like the Strawberries n cream and Apple pie (I couldn't actually taste apple pie but it was still nice). I have a few other flavours that I've still to try.

That's all I can think of that has even the remotest relevance. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a New Tech board?

(I suppose Style and Beauty, for this, is a step too far.... Grin)

Maggie, I think I'm a bit scared of getting something like the Twisted Java again Grin

I keep looking, and thinking Chocolate would be too cloying, melon would be too sweet, I hate coffee, don't like menthol blah blah blah, oh well, I'll stick with Apple then. I think I'm either very picky or far too cautious and boring.

The 2 and 2.4 ohms will work fine with the Ego batteries - you'll just get more vapour with a 1.8 ohm atomizer.

Just wanted to add my bit here- thanks to this thread and you lovely lot I bought a vaporizer nearly 4 weeks ago and haven't had a cigarette since. From nearly 20 a day to none, overnight.

In fact, I waxed so lyrical about them to a friend of mine that he has also made the transition from smoking to vaping.

So thank you all. (My lungs also say thank you Grin)

Thanks Queen and everyone else for all your info on this thread Thanks

Thank you.

I'm amazed to say I actually prefer the vaping- better flavours (choc caramel and cherry are my current favourites) and no nasty smell!!

Plenty Thanks My parcel arrived today. Hehe! together with my new battery that is one serious bit of kit i have now Grin I have put a new banana liquid in that I've never tried before. I don't know if it's the liquid, the metal or if you gave it a wee swish out with disinfectant but I swear I can taste something like germolene not that I have tried eating germolene Confused

I have posted you the dual coil thingy so hopefully you will get it tomorrow. I'm actually a bit mortified with what I have sent you compared with what I have received Blush

Well, I suppose there's Geeky stuff?

magi I think you're right, though, it should stay in AIBU for the traffic and to stop it disappearing, as it would in chat. It's brilliant how many people this thread is helping and it would be a shame to hide it away somewhere with not much traffic.

I'm happy to start the new thread, how about ...

AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

(open to suggestions?)

Shodan, well done! Flowers

Maggie, wow that was quick! No germolene, honest Grin After I used it the once I gave it a good rinse, soaked in vodka overnight, gave it another good rinse and left it to air dry. And don't be silly, I'm just glad it's getting some use. It is a lovely piece of kit, I just hated the feel of the drip tip.

Today I have been mostly vaping Dekang China (except when it got here it was called 'Chinese Tobacco', I'm going to assume it's the same thing). I quite like it. It's a fairly good tobacco flavour, less sweet than most of the western fag flavours. It has a tiny bit of the odd fragrant note like YuXi had but it's a lot fainter.

You soaked it in vodka? Are you mad? What a waste Grin I've since drained it out refilled with gingerbread. Hmm! Not to sure about that one either, it's nice but a bit strong so I've drained that to and I'm back to my strawberry. It actually tastes a lot nicer I,n this so thank you Thanks

Go for the AIBU, Plenty - GO!

I clean mine with meths - and I am not a bag lady!!

DH used to smoke a pipe & gave up about 5 years ago. He is horriblly interested in all things vaping & suggested pipe cleaners & meths to me. You have to leave it to dry for 6 hours or so after cleaning & there is no taste at all.

Drink the vodka - use meths it's the same sort of alcohol & works.
