to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

Glad you have your vision back today.

Yeah! I think it may be the batteries. I seem to be charging them more than using them and they are all less than 6 weeks old. Cheap crap, time to invest in a decent one I think.

magimedi · 10/11/2013 20:38

Am glad your eye is OK.

Please be very careful with the liquids. Nicotine is a poison. Wash your hands after filling.

I always know a few hits before my battery goes.

And can I just put a plug in for your local independent ecig shop (if you have one).

Mine is great - OK the liquid is about 45p more than if I got it on line, but no postage.

I bought a new battery on Friday afternoon & it was duff. Went back to the shop, it was tested & agreed to be duff. New battery, no question & a bottle of juice to compensate me for my trouble.

When I started vaping with juice etc they could not have been more helpful & willing to show me how it was done.

They are lovely people & deserve supporting.

I know that none of you (unless you live in East Sussex, in which case pm me) use my shop but I just want to put in a word for all small shops.

magimedi · 10/11/2013 20:39

PS Some of my batteries (from said shop) are more than 6 months old & work just fine!

Sunflower49 · 10/11/2013 20:42

I've got one too.
The only daft thing is, I only ever smoked when I was drinking. It was a 'night out' thing for me. A leisure activity.
Now I am vaping, I vape ALLLL the time, like much, much more than I ever smoked!
I never used to smoke without a drink in my hand, or during the day!Now first thing on a mornig I have this thing in my cakehole. It's like a dummy!
Must cut down!

ilovesooty · 10/11/2013 20:54

Actually the battery from my starter kit from my local shop is still working. I bought a back up from there though and it conked out pretty quickly. I've got several vv batteries now and won't buy a basic one again. They are a bit wider and longer though.

Doinmummy · 10/11/2013 23:32

Can't wait for mine to arrive. I have actually gone 2 whole days without smoking at all. I finished a packet of fags Friday night and am determined not to buy another pack. I thought the vaporiser would arrive Saturday morning but it didn't so I have gone cold turkey,

QueenStromba · 10/11/2013 23:53

The nicotine being a poison thing made it very scary when I got it in my eye and it burned so much given that mucous membranes absorb these sorts of things far better than skin. My liquids are only about 1.2-1.4% so I don't worry if I get a bit on my skin as long as I wipe it off. I'm very careful when I'm diluting down from 2.7% and I wear gloves when I'm dealing with 5.4%.

MaggieMcGill · 11/11/2013 10:35

Yay! I have and update from Fast Tech, looks like my batteries are on their way Smile

Tiredmumno1 · 13/11/2013 00:32

Hi all Smile

If anyone is interested I have a couple of e liquids that my DH doesn't want, so if anyone wants any of them let me know and I'll stick them in the post to you Smile.

Strawberry Banana 5ml 50/50 18 mg - ordered by accident, he isn't the biggest lover of bananas Grin.

Egg Nog Sample 3 ml Low VG - just a sample one sent with an order.

Both are from Paradise Vape, let me know, I don't mind sending them out Smile.

ilovesooty · 13/11/2013 00:46

Thanks Tiredmumno1 : have PMd you Thanks

GetOrfGetStuffed · 13/11/2013 00:54

Dllytwat told me about this thread.

I LOVE the e fags. I am now on day 13 of no fags and have no desire for one. For the first time I feel confident that I will never smoke again.

I am currently on blueberry flavoured socialites. They are very cheap and work well, but now want a vape kit which looks like a pen as I have tries one a they are better than socialites.

Tiredmumno1 · 13/11/2013 00:58

sooty I have PMd you Smile

ilovesooty · 13/11/2013 01:30

Tiredmumno1 I do apologise. I thought my reply hadn't been sent and I think I've just clogged up your inbox. Blush

Tiredmumno1 · 13/11/2013 01:31

Both liquids have gone, well they will be when I post them out tomorrow Grin.

ilovesooty · 13/11/2013 01:34

Thank you again! X

Tiredmumno1 · 13/11/2013 01:38

No problem sooty. G'night Smile x

Tiredmumno1 · 13/11/2013 01:39

Oh I forgot to say I forgive you for clogging my inbox Wink Grin x

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 18:46

Yay well done GetOrf Flowers Do you know what vape kit you want?

Doin, how are you doin? Grin has your stuff arrived yet? That's amazing you went cold-turkey I couldn't contemplate doing that! Flowers

My fasttech parcel arrived! It took 24 days from when I placed my order, 22 days from when it was marked 'shipped'. I think that's ok, given how much cheaper it is.

I'm now the proud owner of an IGO-L Rebuildable Stainless Steel Dripping Atomizer and loads of weird and wonderful flavours, half of which I can't pronounce. I'm not quite sure what possessed me when I ordered some of these, I think I might have been having a middle-aged moment especially when I ordered the lavendar I may have a few to give away over the next few days Grin

I'm a bit scared of using the atomiser, I think I might join one of the vaping forums and get some advice first. I'm sure when I ordered it it only had one coil and was 1.8 ohms Confused It looks very well made though and threads very smoothly onto both my batteries. The drip tip seems ok too, even though it's stainless steel and I didn't get on with the protank drip tip* - this one is a different shape and doesn't clank on my teeth.

Anyway, everything arrived well packed and in perfect condition Smile I've got a sizeable 'wish list' on there now and am waiting to see if maggie's batteries come through before I place another order.

  • FREE TO A GOOD HOME - Kanger protank like this one but in a nicer box. I only used it once, I didn't like the drip tip and it's not changeable. If you're using an evod or a gs-h2 and fancy something a bit posher this would be a good choice as it takes the same heads. It has a glass tank so you can use any liquids in it without having to worry about it cracking.
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 18:49

[floers] Lyanne for the cinnamon apple, I'm mixing it with some low nic vanilla and am steaming through it Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 18:50

oops Flowers

QueenStromba · 13/11/2013 19:07

I told you you'd have your order this week plenty :)

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 19:21

Way hay! Just received my e cig and had a puff! It nearly took my head off. It's so strong.

Can I ask how you transport yours? Is it ok to just chuck it in my handbag or will the liquid leak out?

MaggieMcGill · 13/11/2013 19:36

After all my faffing around at the weekend charging batteries I ordered a Smok vv from vapourtine. It arrived today and I love it already Smile it's huge!

Plenty that's great that your stuff arrived, hopefully mine isn't far behind. Does your husband not like the manger pro tank? If not I wouldn't mind trying it. I could send you a few of my dual coil clearo's in return. I've not tried them yet because I've been waiting on my new batteries arriving from FT. I'd swap for some liquid but it looks like you have enough of your own Grin

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 19:44

Omg!! I don't think I can smoke this thing it's soooo strong.

I've got some cherry flavoured Ibreathe liquid can I mix it in with the tobacco stuff I've put in the ecig? Will it dilute it?

GetOrfGetStuffed · 13/11/2013 19:50

I have absolutely no idea what vape kit to get, there seem to be thousands available. My friend bought one online for 15 quid or so, she says it's great.

There is a vape shop in town, I might go and have a look. I only want to spend a small amount though, when I bought the socialites e cigs they had a vape kit there but it was 50quid and I don't want to spend that much.

Can anyone recommend a vape jobby for around 15 quid or so?

plentyofpubes (haha at typing that) those things you linked to look and sound like parts for sports cars.
