to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

Have I mentioned that I love the GS-H2s? I love that there's no way to end up with e-liquid in your mouth. I'm tempted to swap my vivi novas for the GS-H5 tankomizers - unfortunately tankomizers don't work with cheapy Egos because they don't have the skirt bit to keep them in place.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 08/11/2013 10:28

They do work, they just look a bit less streamlined. I've been using one with the ring off my protank on an ego but the ring doesn't have airholes so I have to keep the tank slightly unscrewed.

You can get the rings separately. These have airholes and look like the right size.

They're not bad but I'm finding them slightly more prone to gurgling than the gs-h2.

FastTech news:

My order RT201HK
ordered Oct 20
shipped Oct 22

Has just shown up on HK post tracking! It's 'being processed for delivery' Grin

awaywego1 · 08/11/2013 13:06

Am now 5weeks into vaping and am loving being free of cigarettes!
However I am having problems with my batteries-I have 2 ego ce4 and neither of them are working properly-the first one has some issue with the thread which means that it won't attach to either charger or clearo and the second is just not holding it's charge. Where should I go from here wise ones? Wink I don't want to keep throwing money at these batteries if this is going to keep happening.

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 13:18

The vivi novas work with the Egos I got from liberty flights but not with the ones from paradise vape unless straight out of the packet. The threads on the cheaper batteries wear really quickly so within a week they're not tight enough to hold the tankomizer in place properly whereas the skirt bit on the CE4 shaped clearos keeps them in position.

Glad to hear that there is movement on your FastTech order! I'm willing to bet that it will be with you in the next week - post from Hong Kong is surprisingly fast when they're not fucking about for ages.

Tiredmumno1 · 08/11/2013 13:19

you're welcome WTF Smile.

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 13:29

Hi Awaywego. I'd suggest you splash out on a three pack of the 900mah Egos from liberty flights. I know I'm a walking advertisement for them but the quality is far superior to anywhere else I've bought from - as I said in my last post, the threads just wear out really quickly on cheap batteries. It's Shoe Zone versus Schuh. Just like with shoes it's important to buy some good batteries - everything else in the vaping world is pretty much disposable.

There's always voucher codes for them. Try this one for 15% off : ECF15OFF. If not then LF10 always works for 10% off. A quick google might find you a better one though.

awaywego1 · 08/11/2013 15:15

Thanks queen that's really helpful-I need to stop being a cheapskate Grin
Have emailed vaping vision about the problems-even tho I'm normally a wimp when it comes to complaining but I'll invest in something sturdier anyways.

QueenStromba · 08/11/2013 15:28

The LF Ego batteries are definitely worth it. It's like the Sam Vimes rule of economics - poor people have to buy a new pair of boots every winter because they can't afford double the price for good boots whereas rich people stay rich because they can afford to pay twice the price for boots that last ten times as long.

Don't bother with the Ego passthrough though - my first one stopped charging from the USB port after a week or two and the second one didn't charge via the port from the box. Also, you should get the steel ones because the black paint chips away like nail varnish - but that's the case for the cheap ones too.

If you order the batteries now then you've got a good chance of them dispatching today and having them tomorrow. If not then they'll dispatch on Monday and you'll have them on Tuesday.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 08/11/2013 19:36

Ah thanks Queen, that's really useful info on the paradise vape batteries. That's DH's exact setup - paradise vape ego with a gs-h5 on top. So far so good but I'll warn him to carry a spare gs-h2 in case of thread disasters.

My main battery is the 1200mah version of this. I've been using it a month now and I'm very happy with it. It lasts a day of chain-vaping between charges, the pass-through still works fine and it goes from 3.0-6.0 volts which is a bigger range than most ego vv's. The 'lifetime guarantee' is not that great - you have to have spent rather a lot of money with them in the previous 2 months to make a claim Hmm

My back up battery is a 650mah from here. I would link directly but the site is down for maintenance. They have some decent genuine products at very good prices. I haven't used this battery much (it's an evod) - it's ok but the threads are a bit rough.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 08/11/2013 19:42

awaywego have you tried the ? It might work on the battery which used to work, unless it's not screwing in at all.

Flowers and congrats on 5 weeks!

MaggieMcGill · 08/11/2013 21:11

Mmm! I'm wondering if anyone else has this? I've noticed before but even more so this week because I've been using the exact same liquids in the exact same clearos. Sometimes I get a really good throat hit and I feel quite satisfied, other times I can suck for Scotland and not get a thing? Is it just me? What is that all about? It possibly is just me Confused

MaggieMcGill · 08/11/2013 21:19

Sorry if that ^ doesn't make sense. I have Wine Happy Friday everyone Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/11/2013 22:39

well well, my first fag free day for 7 years and all thanks to vaping. Hooray!

Doinmummy · 08/11/2013 22:43

Ooh I've ordered one . Can't wait for it to arrive!

MaggieMcGill · 09/11/2013 12:45

Well done FunnysInLaJardin! Just wait until you're a week in, then a month Smile

Cantabile · 09/11/2013 13:50

I have just seen my account balance. Oh wow. I have not had a balance like that for years! That's only a few weeks in, and I haven't even stopped smoking yet. Just in time for Xmas too.

Thank you, Katy, for starting this thread. Thank you Plenty, Queen, and everyone else for keeping me enthused and informed. Thanks

Doinmummy, just wait! Wondrousness is in store for you!

WTFlike · 09/11/2013 17:15

Best thing for me, after a year, is not having a cough. I had a cough for years really. Now not had a cough for a year. Also the cash!

magimedi · 09/11/2013 17:18

WTF - Same for me - it is a joy to get rid of the cough. I've also noticed that when I had a cold it went so much quicker & was not nearly as debilitating.

And I have not put on weight!!

WIN, win win!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/11/2013 20:45

Woohoo Cantabile, that's fantastic! I think I'm due to break even next spring some time, if I stop buying stuff now Grin I'm actually really envious of those who've had an expensive tailor-made habit. I've only saved about £65 so far, in over a month, and I've spent far more than that. DH is down from 20 marlboro a day to 2 a day and has saved loads but wants to put it towards a new car so I can't really offset it against my vaping costs.

Maggie, when it's not satisfying are you not getting vapour or is it just not hitting the spot?

Yay Funny well done! Flowers

Doinmummy, what did you get?

It's brilliant that this thread is still getting new people off the fags Smile

I'm getting really excited about my fasttech order now it's showing up on tracking and I have some faith in it arriving. I apparently ordered one of these so have been watching videos about what it is todayGrin. It looks quite good but I have a few numpty questions about direct dripping if there's anybody on this thread that knows about it?

WTF and magi this is possibly a bit weird and TMI but I am actually missing having a good satisfying hoik of phlegm Blush

ilovesooty · 09/11/2013 21:00

My Vapourtine order arrived yesterday. My VV battery is a genuine Smok, solid and well made. Very impressed. I can recommend them: when I first ordered from them I forgot the discount code and he threw a free bottle of liquid in with my next order.

Cantabile · 09/11/2013 21:11

Is that where you drip a couple of drips of your juice through it and it falls straight on to the atomiser? Then you don't need to fill a tank etc. I'd be really interested to hear how that compares, Plenty.

QueenStromba · 10/11/2013 01:23

I feel I should warn you all the e-liquid in the eye stings like a motherfucker - about as bad as chilli. I just put some new liquid in one of my clearos and shook it to mix with the previous lot without putting my thumb over the mouthpiece - big mistake. I had to feel my way to the bathroom with my eyes shut and the rinsing out has resulted in eyelashes or something in my eye. At least the rinsing worked a lot better than with chilli and the vision in that eye is fine.

On happier news, my Fast Tech order shipped on Friday so their dispatch is fast at least. I'll let you know when it turns up.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 10/11/2013 18:33

Cantabile, yes, that's the thing. I mainly want it so I can try lots of different flavours without filling a whole tank each time.

Queen ow! hope your eye is better now. Good luck with your fasttech order. Mine was 'shipped' two days after I placed my order ... it then fell into the Hong Kong Post black hole for 3 weeks Grin Today it 'left Hong Kong for its destination' which has got me very excited!

ilovesooty that sounds like v good customer service. I'll check them out. How are you finding VV?

MaggieMcGill · 10/11/2013 18:44

Queen, thanks for the warning. That does sound nasty. I hope vision has been restored. I bet you won't do that again Grin

My FT order was shipped on the 2nd November but I've not heard anything since then. Fingers crossed it arrives safely.

Plenty. Plenty of vapour but sometimes it just doesn't hit the spot. Sometimes I get a right good throat hit but then other times it's like I'm vaping fresh air Confused same liquid, same clearos. Who knows.

QueenStromba · 10/11/2013 19:16

My eye's fine today thanks.

Could the lack of throat hit be due to the charge level of the batteries? I can always tell when they're about to run out.
