to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

Doin, I bought a ego case. It was only a few pounds from ebay but most of the time I just use a separate pouch in my bag. What flavour did you get? I must warn you. They are very addictive and hard to put down Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 20:28

Maggie, DH has his own protank which he hasn't used yet. He said his gs-h5 is 'perfectly adequate' Grin PM me your address and it's yours Smile

Doin, what nicotine strength is the liquid you're using and what strength is the cherry flavour? If the cherry is weaker then yes, try mixing them.

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:35

The first lot of juice I put in is called tobacco royale.the numbers on the bottle are tiny. I think it says 70-35

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:36

I've just mixed in some cherry flavour. It's a different make to the ecig I hope it doesn't explode !

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 20:36

Getorf, this is nearer £30 than £15 but it has two of everything (which you will end up needing anyway) and plenty of spare coils to keep you going.

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:37

The cherry flavour says medium on the bottle

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 20:38

That sounds like the PG/VG mix. Is there another number on there at all? Don't worry, your liquids can be used on any ecig.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 20:40

OK, medium is probably anything from 12-18mg. Is there another number on the tobacco flavour?

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:41

2.4

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:46

I really can't read the label it's minute. I used to smoke JPS blue but this liquid stuff is ridiculously strong.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 20:47

yes that's quite high. The cherry will dilute it down a bit but might still be too strong. Have you tried the cherry on its own?

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:49

I've only got one tubey thing and put the tobacco flavour in first. I've shoved a bit of cherry in but the hit is still too much for me

QueenStromba · 13/11/2013 20:50

The cherry ibreathe should be nice mixed with the tobacco flavour.

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 20:52

It's the back of the throat hit that I can't take, I don't mind the actual flavour

ilovesooty · 13/11/2013 20:57

Maggie I love the Smok VV too!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/11/2013 21:11

If I were you I'd tip it and fill with just the cherry for now. The throat hit can take a bit of getting used to, even with lower nic liquids. You could try one with higher vg, so if your current one is 70/30, you could look for 50/50 or even 30/70. Joose Juice let you choose the PG/VG ratio.

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 21:18

What is pg/veg ratio

I think the tobacco one is the strongest they do. Friend (who did the ordering ) said it is 24

GetOrfGetStuffed · 13/11/2013 22:59

Thanks pubes! I will order that one.

Dooin 2.4 is bloody strong, I have got 1.2 and that is plenty strong enough.

ilovesooty · 13/11/2013 23:10

PG gives he throat hit. VG gives the vapour.

elskovs · 13/11/2013 23:18

Would anyone take up this vaping as a non-smoker?

I tried the bog standard e-cigs 5 years back and was disappointed and gave up using the patches.

I never got a chance to try vaping, and I remember loving smoking, the only downside being the cancer and the cost.

Should I order 1?

ilovesooty · 13/11/2013 23:33

Reputable sites generally make it clear that they don't advise non smokers taking up vaping, in my experience.

Doinmummy · 13/11/2013 23:41

Ok thanks Sooty I need to get 30/70 I reckon.

I've tried to empty it out but it's all a bit jelly like. I've topped up with as much cherry stuff as I can but it's still really strong.

Do you all vap 0% nicotine ?

All this vapping is more complicated than I thought Grin

elskovs · 14/11/2013 00:22

Probably. I wish theyd been around years ago. I tried everything. I wonder how many lives they will save?

Maybe they are the "cure" for smoking!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 14/11/2013 06:54

elskovs no! Don't try one! If you've managed to conquer nicotine addiction (well done!) you really don't want it back in any form.

Doin, I generally use 1.8 and go down to 1.2 in the evening. How many fags were you smoking?

QueenStromba · 14/11/2013 11:38

Try adding some glycerine Doin (from boots or the baking aisle) - it will dilute the nicotine and lessen the throat hit.
