Inspired by the HW thread, I have been thinking about this for a while.

Arthur works for the MoM so wont be on a pittance as a head of department, even a minor one as there would surely be grades?

They eat massive amounts of expensive food having three courses at every dinner, cooked breakfast every day. When they win a load of money, instead of saving it in the knowledge that they have 4 kids still at school they blow the lot on a holiday of a month in Egypt! At the beginning of CoS Mrs W takes some silver sickles and ONE gold galleon from their vault, and then happily blows 1000 galleons on a holiday rather than see them financially secure for the next few years.

Seems to me that the reason their kids are in second hand robes and reading second hand books is because they are shit with money, not that they dont have enough.

Books.....They have to have a new Miranda Goshawk book each year, so when F&G have finished with them they could have passed one to Ron who passed it to Ginny and the older ones shared the remainder if they needed it, which is unlikely. Why have several unused copies of the same book in the family and still buy another one for the youngest student? Same with robes. Rons dress robes are second hand, but Mrs W says that Arthur has some for parties so why not lend him those (with some magically performed alternations if needed) rather than pod out for horrible second hand ones? Actually, thinking further, Mrs W is supposed to be a whizz at household stuff so why doesnt she transfigure the second hand stuff to look better?

They just throw good money after bad!

"I don't think Ron is spoilt (he has clear boundaries) but he does have a happy home life which is why going on the run (fearing for his families' lives) is so hard for him."

In my world clear boundaries would include not being allowed to complain and moan aloud about how hard done by he is.

My ds also has a hand-me-down uniform. He has the sense not to whinge about it in my hearing. And I hope I have drilled into him that you don't moan in other people's hearing either, because chances are some of them will actually be genuinely hard up.

And the book makes it quite clear that he is constantly moaning about the discomforts and the quality of food when on the run. Not just nobly fearing for his family's life.

I don't think the Weasleys can be that hard up, after all they don't even have a massive flat screen TV.

What's with all the Molly hating? The woman is clearly doing work for the order in the latter part of series. She's always looking after people and constantly organising various things.

Ooh I have a controversial HP question!

What does everyone think of Tonks leaving baby Teddy to go fight Voldermort at the end?

Personally, I think she did the right thing. She was a highly trained auror (I'm guessing like a highly trained police/army officer to us) so she was doing her duty, plus she would have thought what kind of future would Teddy have in a world where Voldermort was still about.

Exactly, she did it for the future that was one of the saddest deaths, without question. Maybe excepting Snape.

Snape was the saddest. I still have the feels resonating round my ribcage from reading that scene.

I wish Tonks was better portrayed in the films.

Ah the Tonks/Lupin deaths leaving poor Teddy all alone were devastating. I was genuinely more concerned about that than all the other end stage deaths put together. So sad, but such a contrast to Harry's situation - he grows up knowing how awesome his parents were, that they died for the his future and surrounded by loving family friends Smile

Poor Ron's getting it in the neck a bit here. He was a bit of a knob in the last book, but he had plenty of shit thrown his way too. Always seemed a bit troubled by his status, in the shadow of his brothers, Harry, less loved than Ginny, always wondering if he was any use to the others. There's nothing more destructive than the feeling of being useless!

Tonks did the right thing. As did Lupin. She couldn't just lot do her duty because she was a mum.

But why blow all that money on a holiday and then spend the next few years struggling again.

They went to see the son who ran away to live there lived there

I'm sure Malfoy makes a reference to Mr Weasley being low paid while his father knew how to make money.
