Here's an extract of the lyrics if you are lucky enough to have not been subjected to them...

Baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
You don't need no papers
That man is not your maker
And that's why I'm gon' take a
Good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl

I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two

Nothin' like your last guy, he too square for you
He don't smack that ass and pull your hair like that
So I'm just watching and waitin'
For you to salute the true big pimpin'

Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What you don't like work

I know it's a bit old now... But it still makes me so Angry

It's nasty shit. YANBU.

LazyMonkeyButler · 14/08/2013 23:43

YANBU, there have been other threads about this song. It's not nice. Not at all.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 14/08/2013 23:47

Its a shit song with a shit singer who looks like he own a flashers mac.

I am appalled at Pharrell for going near him. T.I not so much

softlysoftly · 14/08/2013 23:48

Never heard it thankfully yanbu

doolallylass · 14/08/2013 23:48

I thought it was just me! I have been a Robin Thicke fan for years, have a few of his albums and was really pleased when I heard to song - love it. But the lyrics are vile. I have a preteen DD and teen DS and will not be buying this album.

BeCool · 14/08/2013 23:54

it's sold over 1 million copies in UK. its radio plays must be massive.
Thicke has given interviews stating its a feminist song and he's empowering women. Hmm

as MrsTP so succinctly put it, it's nasty shit.

Edendance · 14/08/2013 23:56

I love this song. Don't know all the lyrics, don't really mind- I just like to bop away in my car to it and its got a great beat.

butterflyroom · 14/08/2013 23:58

The uncut video is fucking appalling.

SamHamwidge · 14/08/2013 23:58

Yyyy. The title itself is rapey. Don't get me started in the video.

Wonderstuff · 15/08/2013 00:05

God - that's disgusting! I've listened to it in the car, but never really listened to the lyrics. How utterly depressing. I was talking to dh the other day how I felt that women were in a worse position now than we were 10 years ago - this sort of thing being mainstream culture - makes me feel pretty queasy. What to do? Feel like I need to stand up and say this is not OK.
FB campaign to remove it from BBC Radio play lists?

Buttercup4 · 15/08/2013 00:06

It seems like its taking us 50 years back, I thought we were moving on from this "she said no, but her behaviour said yes" crap!

I would not want the younger generation looking up to people like this and thinking their views are acceptable.

It's a disgusting song and the explicit video is repulsive.

The beats pill (thinlk they're mp3 player speakers) ad is equally vile. This song playing will barely dressed girls pretty much simulate sex acts with a large red phallyx object.

Bleurgh.

alltoomuchrightnow · 15/08/2013 00:23

having such got out of an abusive relationship..this is horrid. and to think ive hummed along every day to it in the car..sounded like such a summery happy tune :-(

alltoomuchrightnow · 15/08/2013 00:23

now it makes me feel sick :-( one of the last things ex 'D'P said was that he didn't want me because he didn't want a woman he couldn't control..and that i wasn't his 'good girl'.

FeijoaVodkaStat · 15/08/2013 00:26

Wonderstuff. Uphimselfgit Evans one morning said there was nothing wrong with this song. He's a fucking tool. I wonder if that was his opinion or the official bbc line (as it was about 2 days after the first thread)

iWillDoItInAMinute · 15/08/2013 00:31

Haven't heard it... Lyrics vile and depressing Sad

I don't want DD growing up in a world where that is acceptable

YANBU

Buttercup4 · 15/08/2013 00:35

alltoomuchrightnow Sad sorry you are having such a hard time.

This is precisely why lyrics like this are so offensive!!

I don't think it's going to be very nice for rape survivors to hear either...

alltoomuchrightnow · 15/08/2013 00:38

thanks. I did have thread about it on Relationships but can't find it now! never mind . I'm in a better place mentally. I'm very happy i left him (this is the second time and i'm absolutely 100% commited to it now) I'm just 'ughhh' that i hummed along to this.,

alltoomuchrightnow · 15/08/2013 00:39

(ie i've left 100% for good, no going back. ever. and i feel empowered)

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/08/2013 02:27

Good for you alltoomuchrightnow. If it's any consolation, I think a lot of people are blissfully unaware of the lyrics.

I was having a moment today in the car thanking the universe that I didn't have to explain to DD about consent and there being no such thing as 'blurred line'. She is 2, I have time to break it to her that some men are misogynist arseholes.

DebK2012 · 15/08/2013 03:42

It's a song.... Robin Thicke is a very nice man

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/08/2013 03:52

I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two

He sounds delightful, a true gent.

NapaCab · 15/08/2013 05:24

The video is even worse than the lyrics of the song.

It's all about 'pushing boundaries' though, don't ya know, aka making money. The sad thing is that all the controversy has just raised the profile of the sleazy creep, which was precisely his or his record company's intention, I'm sure.

Buttercup4 · 15/08/2013 07:17

DebK2012

Oh yes, it's 'just' a song... Hmm
