Yes - I read that online, isa. I initially thought he would be doing it for that woolwich murderer or something equally 'controversial', but he actually has something to say.

Usually can't stand frankie boyle.

Isabeller · 20/07/2013 17:33

Same here captain, not at all my usual cup of tea. Disappointed Obama has not yet moved to close guantanamo.

I still hate the Boil. I wonder how far he will take it?
Enough to make it more than a desperate squeal for attention?

ParvatiTheWitch · 20/07/2013 17:47

Yeah, good cause, but let's hope the boil takes it all the way eh? Grin

Branleuse · 20/07/2013 17:50

Frankie Boyle is brilliant, even if you dont like his humour, hes a very clever man, and politically hes very on the ball

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 20/07/2013 18:05

He's on day four today, so doing quite well, really.

mrscumberbatch · 20/07/2013 18:08

Branleuse- agree totally. I think a lot of what he says/does is taken out of context or not understood entirely.

He says some terrible terrible things, but really he is mocking the people who actually live their lives believing/agreeing with the terrible things.

Not everyone's cuppa obviously but I have a grudging admiration.

Eyesunderarock · 20/07/2013 18:35

Sorry, it's going to take a lot of selfless and saintly acts to take away the memory of all the disablist crap he's spewed over the years.
Who knows, maybe he can combine a total purge of his system with the hunger strike.
And some brain bleach.

themaltesefalcon · 20/07/2013 18:41

He steals all his best jokes. Bah.

Still more likeable and sincere than Obama, yes, but then so was Richard Nixon.

Eyesunderarock · 20/07/2013 18:46

You remember Nixon. maltese?
I thought I was old!

ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmmmmmmmm · 20/07/2013 18:47

Still, the Guardianistas seem to love him now.....

Go figure.Hmm

Callmedreckly · 20/07/2013 18:50

I cant stand the knob-jockey bloke.

Eyesunderarock · 20/07/2013 18:50

Not all of us!

CountryMouse27 · 20/07/2013 18:51

Completely agree eyes

So maltesefalcon he's more likeable than Obama - for saying that Katie Price's son might rape her because of his disability and mocks the appearance of people with downs syndrome? Yes, quite Confused

flippinada · 20/07/2013 19:10

Oh dear, the old people who don't get his jokes just aren't clever enough to understand line. I understand fine, I still don't like him or his jokes.

If he wants to go on hunger strike then fair play to him but one decent gesture (and of course he's taken time to make sure everyone knows about it) doesn't make up for years of hateful crap.

Growlithe · 20/07/2013 19:21

So he feels passionately about one cause. Maybe we should all start taking the piss out of the Guantánamo Bay inmates. You know, because we are clever and ironic. Hmm

timidviper · 20/07/2013 19:23

I know it goes against the MN grain but I like Frankie Boyle.

While I don't think anyone is stupid if they don't enjoy him (as flippinada said), I do think there are some people who wilfully take his jokes out of context to enjoy the outrage.

Well done Frankie. This is a principled gesture, society needs more people who stand up for their beliefs

Justforlaughs · 20/07/2013 19:28

I like Frankie Boyle anyway, and as for and of course he's taken time to make sure everyone knows about it this, not much point in holding a hunger strike or any other protest if you DON'T tell as many people as possible, is there! Confused

edam · 20/07/2013 19:31

Blimey, I had no idea Boyle had any principles. Good for him this time - but I wish he'd recant all that disablist crap.

Primadonnagirl · 20/07/2013 19:32

Personally I always think hunger strikes are a bit pointless and also a bit insulting to people who genuinely starve in this day and age..Is he really going to starve himself till he dies and even if he did what really does that achieve? I agree with people's right to protest but I think it needs to be effective and hunger strikes seldom are.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 20/07/2013 19:33

He's not funny for me to think he is clever, although i get what he is trying to do.

Maybe political activism is more where he's at.

Good for him, if so. The guantanamo situation is disgraceful.

Hrrrm · 20/07/2013 19:34

What a twat. I wonder what the mother of his children thinks about this.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 20/07/2013 19:34

Funny enough

themaltesefalcon · 20/07/2013 19:36

EyesUnderARock, perhaps not that old, no, but I have a long fascination with Nixon. His own dog needed to be led to him with a trail of biscuits! Such a sad detail. You can't help but feel a modicum of sympathy for someone so personally repellent.

CountryMouse, Frankie Boyle is an arse and I don't like him one whit. Yet I am not aware of any instance in which he reacted to the slaying of a teenager by the mawkish, carefully-scripted "It could have been me," trying to drive home the real horror of the situation by framing it as "This gobshite kid could have grown up to be someone as important as ME, if you think about it!" And he didn't pose looking brooding for an official photograph while "reacting" to the mass murder of a lot of school-children. And he doesn't bomb civilians from unmanned drones. Need I go on?

EuroShopperEnergyDrink · 20/07/2013 19:38

His disablist/sexist/racist act is a charicature of those who actually harbour those beliefs.

He's the leftiest person ever, defines as feminist and is continuously standing up for the oppressed, the disabled and poor who have been demonised by this government.

Anyone who thinks it's family guy sickipedia teenage black humour quite frankly, doesn't get it. And that's not a 'ha ha you're old and uncool' you don't get it, you're taking the act and person out of context.
