To be worried about my boob?

This may sound really odd but my left breast feels funny

It feels a bit swollen and, not exactly sore, but a bit uncomfortable.

My cousin died of breast cancer last year and a bit of me is niggly worried. I've had a good feel around and can't find anything lumpy but it feels wrong somehow and I am not 100% sure how to properly check my breasts (about to google it)

I feel a bit silly about it but it just doesnt feel right. AIBU to be a bit worried. Is it too silly a thing to see a GP about? I have doctors appointment this afternoon but that's about something else and I know they hate you mentioning more than 1 issue

I suppose I'm looking for some re-assurance really

I've just scared myself silly on Google. I will mention it to the Dr this afternoon. Hopefully he will have a look or if not book me an appointment to get it checked. I think I am a bit over sensitive due to my cousin.

Right

I went to the doctors. She found what she described as a 'firmness' under my nipple about 5cm in diameter

She's made me an urgent referall to the breast clinic

I am terrified and lost the plot for a bit BUT my breast is sore which my DM says is a really good sign as cancer wouldn't be sore like that and it will be mastitis or a cyst or a blocked duct or something, so I've calmed down a bit

I don't think I will sleep much tonight though :(

Try not to worry CatGirl. I'm not a medical expert- but breast cancer doesn't usually hurt.
About 8 years ago I got terrible shooting pains in my breasts and they felf really lumpy. I saw a doctor and apparently I have cystic breasts...I just have a natural tendency to form cysts due to dense breast tissue. I was told to cut down on caffeine and take vitamin E pills. It helps a lot. Good luck and try not to stress too much!

keep in touch with us. Sure all will be well but we are here. Been there - it's scary. Mine was just a massive cyst that they had aspirated in two ticks and it was totally painless and kind. Boob felt a bit saggy after though as it was so big.

And fwiw your mum is right, cancer lumps usually don't hurt but cysts and blocked ducts do.

How old are you cat ? Is it as obvious as your username ?

I've worked in a breast cancer clinic for 18 years, you did the right thing. Any change or symptom should always be reported. Any other family history ? Whereabouts in the country are you ?

if it's any consolation they refer all worries of this type now just to be on the safe side

I had this a few weeks ago - appointment in breast clinic for a mamograme and then back for the results. It was nothing but scared the shit out of me. Family history of breast / ovarian cancer made it more worrying.

It is most likely nothing serious, try not to worry too much!

I'm 36. No real family history other than my cousin who was my mum's, brothers daughter if that makes sense

Im in the NW

Im still reeling but the fact its hurting is reassuring me, along withthe lovely posters on here

I have a 16 mo old son. I love him so much and he needs me. I'm the only breadwinner in the family. I'm frightened

She said if it didn't come through this week it would certainly be next week. Which is very good really (although will no doubt feel like an eternity).

Thank you for the squeeze :) I am a bit wobbly to say the least. But friends have regaled me with lots of postive stories of lumps that turned out to be nothing and the stats are very reassuring

It was just such a shock.

You were right to tell your go and don't worry about the "urgent" appointment. Last time I was referred (I have fybrocystic breasts - basically really lumpy!) I was told they try see everybody within about 2 weeks of referral. It's very unlikely to e a sign of you go's concern.

All changes should be reported, an it's good that you know what's normal for you.

Try to relax. And take a book when you go to the clinic. I'm always there for hours for some reason xx

Totally sympathise with your feelings of panic about your dc. I went through something like this a year ago and all I could think about was the children. Please remember it is VERY unlikely that it is anything to worry about. Your g.p. is just making sure. Mine turned out to be nothing and I'm sure yours will too. Easier said that done I know but try to distract yourself. I've also heard that breast cancer is unlikely to be experienced as a painful lump. Xx
