Was I Unreasonable To Have Complained About This Advert...?

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 16:59

Firstly, I should say that I am very anti-cheating. I was cheated on a couple of years ago, and I am still trying to come to terms with it. I have recently also severed all ties with 2 friends due to cheating. These were very good friends of 20+ years. Friend A was having an affair and friend B was providing her with alibi's etc. That is how strongly I feel about cheating.

Ok, so that was just a bit of background.
Today I saw the TV advert for Flora Buttery and was absolutely horrified. The tagline of it is "Go ahead, cheat on butter."
Am I being unreasonable in thinking that they are encouraging/glorifying cheating?
That they are using the word cheat as if it is something good to do?
I'm not only concerned about cheating in an infidelity sense, but cheating in things such as school tests/sports etc. If children are watching this advert, they may see no harm in cheating.

I emailed Flora company directly to tell them how disgusted I was with the advert, and their lack of morals, and to tell them I would never be buying a Flora product again.

However, when I told my mum what I had done she told me that I had over-reacted and that it was just an advert and I'd behaved like a 'crazy thing'. I left her house and haven't replied to her text.
I'm really upset with her and don't feel that I did over-react.

Hey, I'm on a roll

(A bit like the butter)

Wink
CheddarGorgeous · 25/02/2013 18:01

You have to remember, when making butter ads, there is little margarine for error.

Groovee · 25/02/2013 18:05

If your child was accused of cheating in a test at school, would you be emailing the education department to complain like this for them using the word "Cheating"?

If it's a wind up then haha, but if not, OP I really think you need some counselling.

WishIdbeenatigermum · 25/02/2013 18:08

OP, I don't think you'd enjoy 'Last Tango in Paris'.

ELR · 25/02/2013 18:10

Best post I've read all day! Thanks OP

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 18:12

Counselling because I don't like cheating?
Groovee - are you my mother? She has just text me to again say I was acting crazy and to remind me of the time I didn't speak to my brother for 3 weeks after he cheated at Connect 4.

I'm crying with laughter here. I love mn.

Groovee · 25/02/2013 18:15

Because you've gone overboard over a bloody word.

Were you shagging the butter? Is that why you have such a hang up over flora?

IneedAsockamnesty · 25/02/2013 18:16

Bonkers but brilliant.

But yep your mum is right

ClayDavis · 25/02/2013 18:18

Arf at 'Were you shagging the butter?' You'd need more than counselling to sort that issue out.

CockyFox · 25/02/2013 18:18

Hahaha best wind up thread I've read in ages.
If not a wind up then not only U but a nutter. Reminds me of a letter the hotel I had a saturday job had pinned up in their kitchen- it compared us to faulty towers and everyone laughed at it.

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 18:20

CockyFox - was the hotel in Norfolk? Because that may have been me too

You do know margarine is adulter-ated butter in the first place? It's cheating on itself! Anyway, what's wrong with spreading the love?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 25/02/2013 18:23

:o at Connect 4.

I detect a sore loser.

FourEyesGood · 25/02/2013 18:28

When my butter found out I'd been eating Flora, it was heartbroken. I had to promise I'll never do it again. But I know I've broken our trust, and it wasn't worth it. The Flora was fun, but it doesn't do all the things for me that butter does.

You rang?

Thanks to all those who've reported this. We can confirm that the OP is a namechanger so may I reiterate the request to spread the peace and love with whichever dairy or non-dairy shortening you prefer.

ProtegeMoi · 25/02/2013 18:34

Lol this has to be a wind up post, no one can be that sensitive!

I may email Flora and congratulate them on the ad ;)

SconeInSixtySeconds · 25/02/2013 18:35

You are quite right PeppaFuckingPig.

I have had a stern Stork with the dc and informed them that I'll Lurpak their bags if I ever hear of them cheating. There isn't a bag of Kerrygold at the end of that rainbow.

Bogeyface · 25/02/2013 18:43

Ok so not U to cut off cheating friends, I would do the same.

Totally batshit crazy U to complain about the ad, and I say this as someone who was cheated on by a brand new husband during my pregnancy.

I only hope this is a total wind up.

HoratiaWinwood · 25/02/2013 18:44

Does the OP work for Flora...? Shock

The Connect4 line was epic.

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/02/2013 18:46

Tigermum it's marg, so it's more Slow Set in Skeggy than Last Tango in Paris.

willesden · 25/02/2013 18:50

More free advertising than Flora could ever have hoped for. Epic fail, OP.

RalphGnu · 25/02/2013 18:51

Thanks for the laugh, OP Grin

CockyFox · 25/02/2013 18:53

Not Norfolk OP
