Was I Unreasonable To Have Complained About This Advert...?

Firstly, I should say that I am very anti-cheating. I was cheated on a couple of years ago, and I am still trying to come to terms with it. I have recently also severed all ties with 2 friends due to cheating. These were very good friends of 20+ years. Friend A was having an affair and friend B was providing her with alibi's etc. That is how strongly I feel about cheating.

Ok, so that was just a bit of background.
Today I saw the TV advert for Flora Buttery and was absolutely horrified. The tagline of it is "Go ahead, cheat on butter."
Am I being unreasonable in thinking that they are encouraging/glorifying cheating?
That they are using the word cheat as if it is something good to do?
I'm not only concerned about cheating in an infidelity sense, but cheating in things such as school tests/sports etc. If children are watching this advert, they may see no harm in cheating.

I emailed Flora company directly to tell them how disgusted I was with the advert, and their lack of morals, and to tell them I would never be buying a Flora product again.

However, when I told my mum what I had done she told me that I had over-reacted and that it was just an advert and I'd behaved like a 'crazy thing'. I left her house and haven't replied to her text.
I'm really upset with her and don't feel that I did over-react.

I'm sure that there is another Peppa somewhere Hecate but it was a first post for the fucking variety ShockGrin

TheFallenNinja · 25/02/2013 17:23

If I worked for Flora I'd be pissing myself at this.

Flora, the margarine for cheaters.

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 17:25

If I'm honest, I was kind of expecting MN'ers to reply as you have done.
I think it's a sad reflection on society today that cheating is bandied around willy-nilly, glorified, accepted and covered up.

Also, I posted about Flora on my FB (yeah, yeah...) and so far 3 people have agreed with me and have said they will also email their concerns to Flora.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Timeforabiscuit · 25/02/2013 17:26

Have you heard the phrase "eating is cheating" ??

Where do you stand on that?

WorraLiberty · 25/02/2013 17:27

You sound a bit bitter at the non-butter advert, hope you feel better soon.

I Can't Believe She's Not Bitter Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 25/02/2013 17:28

Clearly a wind up.
I think it's quite a good one too, I sort of believed it at the start as I thought I recognised the name and thought it was a regular.
Oh and for what it's worth, you could never cheat with me over Flora and butter.
I would always know.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 25/02/2013 17:28

You overreacted. Must be nice being so perfect

pictish · 25/02/2013 17:30

Ohhh this has made me chuckle! Grin

It's an advert suggesting you use margarine rather than butter!! Please get some perspective because you sound quite bonkers!

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 25/02/2013 17:31

Worra Grin

You might not believe she's not bitter, but re-read her posts, she is utterly bitterly.

OP vitaliten up a bit.

CloudsAndTrees · 25/02/2013 17:31

Are you from Tunbridge Wells?

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 17:31

SkinnybitchWannabe - Where have I said I was perfect?

If it's a wind up - well done you... ha ha ha (NOT)

If it's not - then you need to get help, seriously. In the nicest possible way - you need to see a professional and work through this.

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 17:33

Not Tunbridge Wells. Chatham.

Mind you, if we don't take action, this problem will spread.

CloudsAndTrees · 25/02/2013 17:37

Grin at the problem will spread! Grin

FeckOffCup · 25/02/2013 17:38

I'll definitely email flora to back up your complaint OP, right after I do the one to mcvities to tell them that picking up a penguin is wrong and will encourage people to abduct the feathery little blighters from their local zoo, where will the madness end?

CheeseStrawWars · 25/02/2013 17:38

Hark at you, coming over all lard-di-da about an advert!

Think of the distrex you're causing your mum, and buttern your lip next time.

ChewinTheFat · 25/02/2013 17:39

Haha! Nutterly Butterly!

pictish · 25/02/2013 17:39

Oil be damned, but this thread is funny! Grin

pumpkinsweetie · 25/02/2013 17:39

Grin Hardly a 1st world issue, as it's clearly stating cheating on butter with margarine, not exactly comparable to adultery or any of the other forms of 'serious cheating' you have provided.
Sorry, but you must be the one & only person who has complained about said advertisment.
Lighten upSmile

PeppaFuckingPig · 25/02/2013 17:40

Thanks pictish, I'm glad someone agrees with me.
