Was I Unreasonable To Have Complained About This Advert...?

Firstly, I should say that I am very anti-cheating. I was cheated on a couple of years ago, and I am still trying to come to terms with it. I have recently also severed all ties with 2 friends due to cheating. These were very good friends of 20+ years. Friend A was having an affair and friend B was providing her with alibi's etc. That is how strongly I feel about cheating.

Ok, so that was just a bit of background.
Today I saw the TV advert for Flora Buttery and was absolutely horrified. The tagline of it is "Go ahead, cheat on butter."
Am I being unreasonable in thinking that they are encouraging/glorifying cheating?
That they are using the word cheat as if it is something good to do?
I'm not only concerned about cheating in an infidelity sense, but cheating in things such as school tests/sports etc. If children are watching this advert, they may see no harm in cheating.

I emailed Flora company directly to tell them how disgusted I was with the advert, and their lack of morals, and to tell them I would never be buying a Flora product again.

However, when I told my mum what I had done she told me that I had over-reacted and that it was just an advert and I'd behaved like a 'crazy thing'. I left her house and haven't replied to her text.
I'm really upset with her and don't feel that I did over-react.

Life is but a melancholy flower. Life is butter, melon, cauliflower.

Pigsmummy · 26/02/2013 16:31

Overreaction!

skratta · 26/02/2013 17:39

I'm allergic to melon. What does that say about my life, grovel?

TiggyD · 26/02/2013 17:43

You under-reacted. This is quite possibly the biggest topic of the 21st century so far. This will define a whole new era in my opinion, which is of course, quite wrong.

Porkster · 26/02/2013 17:52

This is such a wind up thread.

It's bleedin' obvious.

Groovee · 26/02/2013 18:12

OMG, how much does the voice over voice turn one on!!! I must insist that Flora show the advert at every ad break.

You should calm down, maybe have a nice buttered crumpet?

ThreadPirateFanjoBeard · 26/02/2013 19:06

You do realise that your complaint will be winging its way round the whole team, and is probably on their notice board with a note reading, 'Butter nutter of the month'

PeppaFuckingPig · 26/02/2013 19:38

Bluelightsandsiren - I'm not campaigning against the advert, per se. I have made my feelings clear on the ad, and I have provided the contact details for Flora to those who share my feelings and also want to complain. But I can see that I'm in the minority with the way I feel. Which surprises me to be honest. But, thank you for asking.

I think cheating is just too widely accepted in society and is becoming the norm. Like that horrible TV show 'Cheaters' - people caught cheating on camera purely for entertainment purposes.
But, as I've said before - I don't just mean cheating in an infidelity sense. I've mentioned my brother and the Connect 4 incident, and another one that comes to mind is when a boy in my school class (this was 15+ years ago) tried to copy from my paperwork during an English exam. I reported him there and then and he was later suspended for this. Even my parents made a big fuss of this and said I shouldn't have reported him and that I was out of order. But, to me, cheating is out of order.

BUPPPPERSSSS!! ( / marmalade)

Peachy keen thanks honey. Been mostly chewing gum, kickin asss and hanging out with hoods, ya know.

I look forward to chasing you around the boards Wink

monkeyfacegrace · 26/02/2013 20:05

Peppa, I know who you are Grin

PeppaFuckingPig · 26/02/2013 20:16

In real life, or from my previous username?

Anyway, it doesn't matter because I have nothing to hide, and everyone on my Facebook knows about the Flora thing so, really, I have truly outed myself by posting this thread.

Shakey1500 · 26/02/2013 20:23

YANBU to want to boycott Flora because Lurpak is far superior.

YABU to truly think it will have any effect on whether people cheat or not, even if it is making light trivialising cheating.

I've cheated loads during the course of my life. All of them board/card games because I'm a bloody bad loser Grin

WorraLiberty · 26/02/2013 20:29

Isn't it about time you took a bow OP and told us your usual NN? Grin

PeppaFuckingPig · 26/02/2013 20:34

Worra - I don't think anyone would recognise me from my 'usual' NN. And I've had a couple of usual 'NN'. I'm more of a lurker really, and don't tend to start threads.
And, just to clarify - I didn't namechange solely to start this thread.

I was namechanging anyway - for similar reasons, no doubt, that other people namechange!
It just so happened that I namechanged and then started a thread where people have accused me of being on the wind-up. Which I'm not.

Shakey - you're admitting that you've cheated?? GET OFF MY THREAD!!! Wink

Or, just wow you think I'm being unreasonable?

Are you usual suspect? or one of the lurkers? ah, there's several of these

IAmLouisWalsh · 26/02/2013 21:22

Ok, you are responsible for me nearly crashing the car when I saw the advert on a bus shelter tonight. The kids couldn't understand why I suddenly burst put laughing and swerved
